Roasty aroma with some vanilla, caramel, oak and bourbon. Flavor has lots of barrel notes: seems like a lot of vanilla as well. I get a decent amount of bourbon, and some chocolate. Yeah, I’m sure this is the best St. Louis can do. durhambeer (1204), Durham, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 13, 2009 2007 bottle thanks to David. Pours dark brown with thin tan head. Light looking in both appearance and body. Nose of roasty malts, brown sugar, vanilla, oak, and bourbon. Not too stout-like too be honest. More like a strong ale with lots of barrel flavors. Not that it’s a bad thing. Still very good, just not very rich or complex. BOLTZ7555 (1080), Phoenix, Arizona, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 11, 2009 2007 bottle. Nice combination of bourbon and cocoa in both the nose and flavor. Mahogany pour...translucent around the edges with a nice latte head. Wish this one was significantly darker and had more body. Oak, caramel, brown sugar and molasses noticeable in this one, as well. Tasty but not on par with the best. zapprentice (310), East Setauket, New York, USA

Pours pitch black with a big toasted marshmallow head.
Nose was strong of bourbon, oak, chocolate, and raisin.
Taste was hot, boozy, and thin. LilBeerDoctor (1499), East Setauket, New York, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 24, 2009 2008 bottle with the immense packaging. Pours black with a small light tan head. Aroma if roasted malt, sweet cereal malt. Flavor is odd- sweet malt, cardboard. No bourbon at all really. This is a mediocre imperial stout and a sub-par bourbon-barrel impy. I’m not impressed.
