mabel (1710), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 11, 2008 [1672-20080906] Tap. Rose hops aroma with a mild fruity background. Clear, amber brown body with quick white bubbles. Woodsy earthy hops and malt flavour. Medium-full body. Fairly boozy and imposing, makes a mark.
(@ brewpub; Anchorage, AK; Called "Hop Bomb Double IPA" on the board and "10th Anniversary" on the menu, but told they were the same) jerc (3268), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sep 11, 2008 2008-09-06. Dark amber body is less orange than the IPA. (3+) Flavour is surprisingly sweet with caramel malt character accented by an herbal undercurrent (almost anise like, I seem to be tasting that everywhere lately, perhaps its my vocabulary rather than my taste buds that are at issue) that slowly becomes resin and vegetation as bitter hops gain traction towards the finish. (7+) Aroma has sweet herbal hop character with just a bit of the resiny hop character. Average plus palate. (3+) Decent but the hops are a bit anti-climactic here and are used to better effect in their regular IPA. On tap at the brewpub, listed as the 10th Ann on the menu, but referred to as the Hop Bomb Double IPA elsewhere. We were told its the same thing. DrBayern (1000), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA Nov 2, 2007 Clear amber pour with a light off white head that settled quickly. Fruity aroma with caramel notes. Medium body and carbonation, some stickiness. Predominantly sweet without quite enough bitter hop balance. duff (5407), Sydney, Australia, Surrey, England Jan 21, 2007 Bottle, thanks Jacob. Quite sweet, and on the maltier side of the scale, especially when compared to most beers of the same style. This showed some caramelly sweetness, with some light aromatic, fruity hops in the finish. Some citrusy hops, but mostly on the maltier side of things. Hildigöltur (5056), København Ø, Denmark Nov 24, 2006 Bottled. Slightly hazy amber coloured. Aroma of earthy English hops with notes of rye bread, toffee, alcohol and dried fruits. Sweetish flavour of tea, fruits and earthy hops. Medium body. Dry and rather short aftertaste. Decent.
