bb (2236), Martinez, California, USA Oct 7, 2008 Draft. Amber beer with an off-white head. Light grapefruit, caramel, and light pine aroma. Grapefruit, caramel flavor with some pine. Decent bitterness but could use a bit more. Grapefruit, light pine, and caramel linger. San Diego-sweet caramel backing like. AmEricanbrew (1137), Swamp Shreveport, Left Coast, Louisiana, USA Jul 13, 2008 Hazy orange red with a frothy head. Big grapefruit and pine sap hop aroma. Heavy almost syrupy on the palate with light carbonation. Well balanced flavors of heavy caramel malts with sappy bittersweet hops. Has a noticeable alcohol twang in the finish. Draft@ the brewery’s 10th birthday party 12/20/2007 SuzyGreenberg (1067), Seattle, Washington, USA Apr 16, 2008 draft @ brouwer’s - deep orange with lots of haze and a big white head; lots of lacing and aromas of pine hops and thick malts; hops are very subdued in the flavors and though i love malty IPA’s, i find myself missing them here; a big beer though and you taste the 9%+ that’s for sure trevor211 (158), Seattle, Washington, USA Apr 4, 2008 Draft at Brouwer’s. This is one of my new favorite IPAs. Pours a very hazy orange color with a *very* thick pillowy head - almost reminiscent of what you find on top of a guinness (it was still there about 20 minutes later). The mouthfeel was a bit syrupy and certainly oily (thus the lingering head), but what a flavor. It has more depth and complexity than most IPAs I’ve tasted, and while the hops still shone through as the major player (as should be the case), it hinted at sweet malts - bread and butter notes. Great brew, if only a little too heavy. riversideAK (1755), Shoreline, Washington, USA Apr 3, 2008 Tap at Brouwers. Pours a muddy yellowish orange with a decent head and lots of lace. Aroma of herbal, leafy hops and a good amount of malt that creates a soft fruity aroma. Also a touch of butter. Flavor os herbal, leafy hops, medium bitterness, than lots of malt that does not really balance, but really takes over. Sweet bread, butter, brown sugar, and a little tangerine comes up. Back to a medium peppery and herbal bitterness that finishes it out with a little alcohol burn. Interesting.
