Sockeye Prairie Smoke Rauchbier

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a light golden-brown color with a medium white head. The aroma is mostly on the meaty side, some smoke and caramel. The flavor is similar; meaty and smooth flavors, some smoke and toasted malts. Not bad, quite quaffable.

Were to start had this one first at the Eco Brew Fest and then later that night at Toby’s from a Growler and then the next day at Sockeye on Tap. I didn’t take any notes untill the brew pub pour. Pours out a brown with some red highs topped with a sand head. Aroma was of light smoke some light roast. Taste was more of the light smoke a little burtn toast and some smoked meat. Pretty light on the smoke for a smoked beer.

On Tap at the BP Clear medium reddish brown Small thin light tan head that lasts. Light smoky malt aroma. Flavo ris very strange. Malt and alittle sweet. Smoke like smoked salmon or beef jerky. Haven’t had but a few of this style and I don’t know if I could get used to it. Medium palate, a little on the thin side and the carbonation pretty soft. The smokiness fades a bit as I take down this pint...growing on me.

Tap @ EcoBrew Fest - Pours brown with a small off white head...aroma is campfire and dry malt...flavour is similar, dry and smokey, with some dark malt in the background...thick in flavour but not in the consistency...pretty good although not my favorite style...

On Tap: pours a dark and murky brown color with a large white head. Aroma is smoky and of toasted malt. Taste was overwhelminly smoky, followed by some fruitiness and malt. Not one of my favortie styles, but not bad overall.

Tap at brew pub: Clear dark amber color with a soft white head. Lacing was spread all over the glass towards the top and diminished as it went down. Among the smoky aromas were cardboard, dust and a mild metallic scent. The brew has a semi-sweet, malty taste with a small amount of astringent bitterness. The feel is thin and watery. Ok, but nothing I want to freak out about.

Interesting bit of bacon fat in the aroma, melds in with the smokiness of the bar. There is also some very light and subtle fruitiness, like perhaps a peach flavor, with some beefy spicy caramel malts that blends together incompletely like poil and water, but easy to drink nonetheless, but kind of a trainwreck.

Pellucid mahogany color; fruity apple and citrus nose; somewhat thin body balanced with a light spicy hopping and a snappy finish; smoked Granny Smith apples, oh yea……acetalhyde throughout this beer; not too bad, but rather strange and I don’t believe will ever have this again
