michael-pollack (1590), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 6, 2008 22oz. Bottle: Aroma of grain, honey, potatoes, herbs, and barley. Poured amber in color with a medium-sized, dense, tan head that lasted throughout. Clear but slightly hazy. Sparkling. Flavor is light to medium sweet. Tastes of malts, caramel, herbs, resin, hops, grains, and a little plastic. Light to medium body. Smooth, oily texture. Average carbonation. Sweet, malty finish. dmac (916), Toms River, New Jersey, USA Sep 28, 2008 Updated: Oct 2, 200822 oz bomber purchased at Canal’s Burlington. Pours a deep rusty orange/red with a smaller white foamy head. Sweet aroma with notes of honey, green raisin, doughy bread, tropical fruit, liquid caramel and toffee. Medium bodied that is slightly syrupy with average to slightly strong carbonation. Flavor is sweet, raisin, figs, sight toffee, and some grains. Decent enough and I would say it’s far more worthy then a 3.31 average, well that’s what it was when I rated it. JPDIPSO (4344), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA Sep 1, 2008 Lightly hazed dark amber color. Tall, initially creamy looking light beige head. Settles to a 1/2 inch of foam with some lace. Strong caramel, ripe fruit, and herbal hops scents. I’m catching scents between a strong amber and a bock. Toasted malt and herbal hops seem to dominate. Certainly does remind me of many euro-type bocks. A bit sweet and a touch cloying. Pecans ands hints of pralines in the finish and into the linger. So close, but yet still not quite there. alexanderj (1404), San Diego, California, USA Jul 27, 2008 Bottle; got this on sale for about 3 bucks, so can’t really complain if it blows. Pours a burnt orange color with a small, but lingering, off white head. Aroma of honey, caramel, and biscuit; very earthy and cloying. Flavor was unsurprisingly all malt. A mixture of honey and sweet caramel, some very light bitterness in the finish. Flavor was sweet, but not quite as much as I expected after experiencing the aroma. Overall this was a pretty good, straightforward representation of the style. Rciesla (1130), Brick City, New Jersey, USA Jun 10, 2008 Draft at SHPH. Pours an amber body with a small head. Oddlly enough we found out from the brewer that this is whats used to make the ice-bock. Sweet malty and very sticky. Some fruit character.
