Dogbrick (2348), Columbus, Ohio, USA Aug 28, 2007 Sample at the brewpub: Mostly clear golden color with a thin ivory-colored headr that dissipates right off the bat. Spotty lacing. Fruit and earthy malt in the nose. Medium-bodied with a clean mouthfeel and mildly spiced hops, fruit and malt flavor. The finish maintains the clean character and is moderately hoppy at first with a sweet aftertaste. Above average overall. sneagrams3 (1464), St. Louis, Missouri, USA May 23, 2007 Sampled from the brewpub. Filtered and golden hued. Sporatic bone white head. Crisp honey nose with touches of cereal grains and mild hops. Medium and lively. Good carbonation and hop mix in the palate. Mild tingling. Good balance. Zesty hop bitterness. Great session. Well done! murawski (158), USA May 13, 2007 Tasted at St. Louis BrewFest, May 12, 2007.
A Munchner Helles is a rather simple beer, and many breweries either think it is synonomous with "light" beer or they over-do it with too much citris/spicy hops. I’ve been to Munich and had it straight from their breweries, and this brew from Square One seemed just right. Nice clean aroma and appearance, with the simple flavor that results from a good Helles. Above average.
