Commercial Description:
Our single malt Scotch Ale is truly a big beer! We use one variety of malt, a portion of which was smoked at our brewery. It has a rich caramel and toffee fullness, balanced by a mild hop bitterness.

Draught at Square One. Pours clear tawny with a small, fizzy, off-white head, mostly diminishing with spare lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (cookie, caramel, nutty), light hops (flowers), average yeast (earth) with notes of light alcohol and honey. Medium bodied, creamy texture, soft carbonation, and a chalky finish. Average duration, moderate sweetness, light acidity and bitterness.

Draught at the brewpub. Sweet, malty, toffeeish aroma, perhaps some very faint peat smoke, along with a hint of dried, dark fruits. Deep brown in color with a very thin head. Flavor is almost entirely malty, dark, toasty and sweet, with a hint of black bread, cola, and finishing with suggestions of raisin and berry, finally some faint hoppy bitterness noted here as well. Smooth, thin palate, body is medium-full. Rather easy-going rendition, not a lot of complexity to be found.

Draught at Square One brewpub. Dark amber with a thin white head. Aroma of toffee, caramel and caramelized sugar. Malty taste of caramel, toffee, sweet malts with a light hop finish to balance it out. Smooth, tasty, solid effort.

On tap at the brewery, dark brown color, with a beige head, toasty, caramelized malt nose, with some fruity notes of plum, raisin and date, with a hint of brown sugar in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a sweet fruity, toasty, caramelized malt character, with some toffeeish notes, some plummy, raisiny flavors in a rich malty fullness, leading towards malty, fruity warming finish.

Not a big beer. Fairly tasteless except for the basic coke taste a lot of scotch ales have. Not much of a beer.
