Aroma has notes of caramel with an undertone of juniper and sage. Flavor was thick from caramel at the start with a dry finish from the juniper with hints of sage. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 31, 2009 Deep dark brown, pour with minimal head. Aroma is spicy, with slightly minty undertones, some malt sweetness. Interesting flavor--spicy, but not as spicy as I was prepared for. There’s a refreshing herbal presence--almost minty, but not quite. Maybe the Juniper? Don’t really know what Juniper tastes like. Also sweet malts, and a lingering, almost astringent aftertaste. Interesting and complex (and tasty). tmoreau (601), Lombard, Illinois, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 31, 2009 Shared bottle at Lunar Brewing Co. Chose a Czech-pils glass to participate, and observed a brownish mahogany color with a modest, light tan head that reduced to a ring, film, and some clingy spots that all decided to last for awhile. The nose was an array of spice complexity. Most notable notes to me were ginger bread spices, nuttiness, and hints of peppermint/menthol at the back of the aroma. The complex spice notes were a more mellow but pleasant blend in the flavor, along with smooth malt, and some dark fruit sweetness that was tempered by a moderate, rounded hop bitterness. Also sensed a nice, light silkiness in the nose that continued in the mouthfeel. Probably the most unique holiday brew that I’ve tried to date. Swalden28 (1531), McKinney, Texas, USA

| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Dec 26, 2009 Bottle. 22 oz. Split with Vin. Pours a beautiful chesnt with a two finger beige head. Aroma of ginger, cinnamon, juniper, oak, yeast, bread, oats, and corriander. The mouthfeel is amazing; slightly sticky, yet still smooth and easygoing. The finish is slow and a bit numbing under the tongue, with a great warming. Overall, this is probably the best Christmas brew I have ever sampled. Excellent brew.
