Commercial Description:
Mainly available filtered in bottles, though part of the production goes unfiltered into cask.
The production of Traquair House Ale consists of an infusion mash, after which the wort is drawn off and boiled with the hops. The wort is cooled and pitched with bottom fermenting yeast under controlled temperature. It is then fermented in oak over a period of seven days. The beer is transferred into cold storage tanks or barrels and matured over a period of weeks. After maturation the beer is filtered prior to packing.

11.2 oz bottle from the Four Firkins. Dark brown pour with a small white head. Fruity, oaky aroma. Nice chewy mouthfeel with a sweet flavor. Dark fruit notes in the flavor with a bit of oak coming through. Sweet, smooth finish with the fruit lingering on your tongue.

bottle BBF 2017, tasted late 2009 not sure how old this bottle is, but i think this sample have had better days - the "old stale hops" and "old beer" flavors are too much in the foreground. very very dark amber, smooth fine small yellow light brownish head. stale hops, caramel, toffee. flavor is kinda strange, never think i’ve had a beer like this. will try to put words on it : Faint woody sourness, red berries, sort of sawdust, toffee, sweet caramel, faint very sweet malts. flavors are higly blended. Also tastes a bit of old beer.

Bottle. Pours a reddish brune body with a yellow off white head. Toffee, caramel notes, some light woodiness, chewy malt with some light fruit esters. Mild etoh warming amongst the fruit, and a chewy finish, great stuff.

Serving date: 2009-05-14. Served in snifter. Dark brown with big ruby hues. A 2 cm light-beige creamy head that settles after a while. Nice lacings. A nice and big smell of malts, brown sugar, some chocolate and some coffee. Plenty of prominent fruity aromas. Some spices. Faint hint of alcohol. A very nice smell with plenty of depth. Plenty of malts with a dense and sweet character in the mouth. The malts has a slight caramel-like character, but even more so of candy sugar and brown sugar. Fudge and notes of chocolate. Tasty vinous fruits (cherries, blackberries). In the finish there is notes of wood, dry coffee notes, spicy alcohol and some herbs. Rather full-bodied, soft and creamy texture. Well balanced carbonation. A very tasty beer with rich aromas. Rather complex and well balanced. Has somewhat of a sophisticated expression. Serving type: bottle (Copy of old Beer Advocate review)

Popped the top and toffee and roasted malts hit the olfactory. A dark, nearly-opaque ruby color gives way to a legitimate off-white head and slightly watery body. The body is certainly drinkable with a dark fruit, caramel, and hint of toffee flavor. This brew is why ESAs make me happy!
