Aug 16, 2009 (12oz bottle) Pours a dark brown (near black) body with medium beige head. Aroma of anise, roasted malt, caramel, and fennel. Flavor of anise, roasted malt, toasted chestnuts, light pepper, and dates with a dry, earthy finish.

Jul 31, 2009 Bottle via trade with Birdiebeagle. Pours a hazy copper brown. Moderate tan head with decent retention and lacing. Aroma is roasted malts with a hint of peppery spice. Flavor is somewhat sweeter, with the slightest hints of cranberries and molasses. Dry finish, a little overly carbonated for my taste and more alcohol burn than you would expect from the ABV. Drinkable, but not something I would seek out again.

Jul 24, 2009 Draft. Deep brownish, stained glass red hues. Minimal head. Malty and rich, with some whiskey-like syrupy flavor, without the accompanying alcohol. Rich and malty, with some odd pungency. The darker malts tend to dominate, making for an awkward mixture of styles. Drinkable, but sort of odd.

Jul 21, 2009 Draft… Pours very dark with a small, creamy, khaki head. Good retention. Chocolaty, spicy, banana aroma. Medium-bodied with middling carbonation. Well-balanced flavor. A touch tangy and a bit spicy... chocolaty as well. Finishes crisp and refreshing.
