Commercial Description:
Winter Warmer.
Bah Humbug is a 6% abv brew using not just the traditional malted barley and hops, but also a big sprinkling of cinnamon. The effect of the cinnamon is to give a spicy, almost banana-like flavour as often found on German wheat beers; and this blends with the sweet-honeyed flavours of the Maris Otter barley to create a beer with all the fruit flavours of mince pies, Christmas Pudding and Christmas cake all rolled into one.

50 cl bottle, Fargo, ND, USA via Winnipeg. Slightly hazy deep amber colour. Sweet raisin, banana, toffee and vanilla aroma. Banana and vanilla dominate the first sip, the banana is right on as described, less of the xmas cake and pies mentioned in the description. For a true winter warmer could use more depth, and less full bodied than I’d like for this time of year as well.

Bottle from LCBO, labelled at 5% abv rather than 6% as mentionned in this description. Dark amber with a thin off white foamy head. Poor retention and average lacing. Aroma is sweet malt and toasted malt with caramel, cherries, spices and a bit of wood. Pretty subtle aroma, not as bold as I expected. Flavor is fruity with sweet malt, caramel and a bit of spices. Thin body for the style.

Rather disappointed in this beer. Aroma is non-existent. Colour is orange amber with slightly off white head. Taste is fairly bland. Some spice and malt in the taste. With the flavours coming out mostly in the aftertaste the initial mouthfeel is non existent. Overall this beer is lackluster and I really won’t revisit this next year.

500 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a slightly cloudy brownish gold with small off-white head. Mild spicy nose with cinnamon most clearly present. Taste has a sweet with banana, caramel and spice notes. Ok.

Aroma is sweet and spicy, banana bread comes to mind. Ruby red, with quickly fleeting white head. Flavour is fairly sweet with some banana flavour, but the big flavour up front is lots of malt with some bitterness. Mouthfeel is decent with hardly any carbonation. Overall pretty good but not a wow beer.

Bottle. Medium brown color with orange tones. Tall, off-white head. Highly fragrant of fruit, spices including cinnamon, amber malts, and hops. A touch of honey as well. Sweetish aroma. Sweet, malty flavor, lots of dark fruits, cinnamon, honey, and vanilla. Rich and malty. Orange, cherry, raisins, figs. Quite bitter finish, though not with really any hop flavor. A touch of alcohol there too, but a dry, bitter end. Very interesting shift from rich and sweet to bitter. Full flavored and interesting, though you couldn’t drink too much. A tad cloying.
