czech ipa

"Czech IPA", "Ceská IPA", or, more popularly "CIPA" is a term that came about in the late 2010s and early 2020s with two distinct meanings. It arose spontaneously in multiple Czech beer geek circles to denote, in a derogatory manner, the type of IPA that sprung from more traditional Czech breweries - often made with decoction, excessive, frequently caramelly maltiness, excessively full body, simplistic and largely old-school floral-citric hop character, absent or overly heavy bitterness and, frequently, with diacetyl or other flaws. However, in the 2020s, with the rise of modern Czech aromatic hop varieties, the term started being reclaimed by Czech craft breweries, changed to denote IPAs brewed with those.
