If Life’s Too Short to wait for that one, Joel, you can either learn to stop worrying and love Kinney Creek or come do another overdue taproom crawl up here.
I’m waiting too long for life’s too short.

Red Wing (brewpub), Reads Landing (brewpub), Wenonah (taproom), and Olvalde (taproom? I think you can at least do tours and get samples.) are just under an hour away from Rochester. I know that’s a long way to have to go for beer-where-it’s-brewed, especially with work and family obligations, but, aside from the much maligned Kinney Creek, for now that’s literally the closest you’ve got.

Or think south, even though its closer to 1.5 hrs. Northeast Iowa. I hear there’s a place...

Along the same lines, some day I need to get down to Toppling Goliath. Only about 1 hour 15 minutes to Decorah.

Yep...I’m just in a season of life where I don’t get out much. Kids activities, church activities, etc.

I have another taproom for the opening soon category: Wabasha Brewing Company in the West Side of St. Paul plans to open at the end of August. Also, I can’t find a target opening date for this one, but Montgomery Brewing Company in Montgomery, MN seems to be far enough along that a summer opening may be in the works. I haven’t seen anything that directly mentions that it will have a taproom, but I get the feeling that it will.

I usually call it Granite City Food and Fermentation
Originally posted by
I’ve long been confused about how Granite City works, so I did some research. The St. Cloud, MN location is the original. The company’s headquarters apparently are in St. Louis Park, hence the fact that RateBeer lists Granite City as being based there. However, the headquarters are in some office building, not at the St. Louis Park restaurant. Granite City brews via a process it calls "Fermentus Interruptus" in which it makes the wort at a single site and ships the wort to the individual restaurants, where the fermentation takes place and the brewing process is completed. The "worthouse" is located in Ellsworth, IA, and, as far as I can tell, is a factory only and does not have a restaurant component. Granite City actually has a fourth Twin Cities area restaurant in Roseville, MN (apparently not yet listed in the RateBeer database), in addition to the St. Louis Park, Eagan, and Maple Grove locations that I mentioned. Therefore, I would say that Granite City has either 4 or 0 brewpubs in the Twin Cities area, which means the Twin Cities area has either 17 or 13 brewpubs total. If anyone has an opinion on whether the four Granite Cities should count as "brewpubs," I’d love to hear it. I lean toward saying that, yes, all four count individually because a crucial part of the brewing process is conducted on site.

Does Mantorville Brewery have a taproom?

Originally posted by Guerde Does Mantorville Brewery have a taproom? I see no evidence of a formal taproom, but it does offer tours and growlers. I wonder if the law limits Tod Fyten, who owns Mantorville, Fytenburg, and St. Croix, to a single taproom across his three breweries. Does anyone know? As far as I know none of those three breweries has a taproom as of this writing.

Want to add Lion’s Tap in Eden Prairie to your list of brewpubs? All their stuff is brewed at Cold Spring, but its available at the restaurant. It’s currently classified as a brewpub on RateBeer.
