With the android app, i have to type in the numbers before i can get access to type in the text. I would strongly prefer it to be the reverse, or it should at least be possible to write the text at the same time as the numbers. My rating procedure : looks at glass. writes down the apperance score and the description of the appearance sniffs the aroma writes down the aroma score and write down the aroma description take a sip write down the flavor description and put in the flavor score write down the palate description and put in the palate socre another sip write down overall and overall score this procedure is impossible with the new app, or i will have to write down the text somewhere else first, as the text entering area only show up after i have put in the overall score and pressed send. btw. why isn't there a forum for discussing the android app also, most software projects lets user have access to the bugs and improvements lists.. Do we have them public for ratebeer and the app?

(12 replies) Read more of this discussion at RateBeer https://www.ratebeer.com/forums/android-app-add-text-at-the-same-time-as-or-before-putting-in-numbers_300019.htm https://www.ratebeer.com/forums/android-app-add-text-at-the-same-time-as-or-before-putting-in-numbers_300019.htm Mon, 6 May 2024 14:11:00 EST Thread for reporting Places issues Posted by Marko

Hey people! As someone who's traveled around a fair amount I've always felt that Places were one of the most useful and important but also one of the most neglected parts of the site - so I've spent an enormous amount of time on the Sisyphean labors that are fixing that database - including, at a point in time, having the Prague database maximally correct and completely uniform... Which is very much likely not the case anymore as I doubt that people have followed the set norm while adding places, places have shut down, more have sprung up etc etc. You see what I'm getting at. Aaaanywaaaay.... Since we, people who admin around on free time simply don't have the time to monitor everything all the time and I full well know how irritating it is to go somewhere and it turns out that the info is way out of date (looking at you, places without up to date sites or facebook pages), let's help each other. If you see anything wrong, in need of correction etc - please report it here and me or, I guess, whichever admin has the time and they will fix that. Wrong coordinates and wrong working hours are perhaps key, but everything! PS. Please do rate Places you visit, and please never EVER just leave blank Place ratings < - those are the most useless, stupid, pointless thing on this site. By far the greatest value of Places is in written feedback - travelers helping each other out. :)

(161 replies) Read more of this discussion at RateBeer https://www.ratebeer.com/forums/thread-for-reporting-places-issues_298646.htm https://www.ratebeer.com/forums/thread-for-reporting-places-issues_298646.htm Mon, 6 May 2024 14:11:00 EST The Osprey just hit 9K Posted by Garrold

Nice one Dan. Posted by SarkyNorthener

Over the past months It as become apparent, to me at least, that joet is pushing ahead with some sort of "modernisation" programme. To me however it looks more like a push in the direction of untappd. A simplified website that caters for the moronic masses. Are we heading for a website with less stats when we want more? A brewers list that "temporarily???" doesn't list that brewers beers. New Forum and Beermail interface. Plastic surgery for an old and degenerating hag? A new app that no one seems to like and that is dumbed down to something that could run on a spectrum 48k. Joe i didn't really give a shit about the sale to AbInbev, but you promised us an amazing tech support and great functionality. What exactly have they given you? Do they just keep you on hold on your dedicated tech support line? I really hoped we would see a big modernisation programme and more of the stuff Ratebeer is famous for. However all I see is an effort to reduce Ratebeer to a ticking app. The more you dumb the site down, the more you will force users to migrate to dumb apps like untappd. Don't betray us Joe.

(216 replies) Read more of this discussion at RateBeer https://www.ratebeer.com/forums/is-joet-going-to-destroy-ratebeer_299759.htm https://www.ratebeer.com/forums/is-joet-going-to-destroy-ratebeer_299759.htm Mon, 6 May 2024 14:11:00 EST New RateBeer Forums and BeerMail available now to early adopters Posted by joet

All RateBeerians are now invited to try out our new state of the art RateBeer forums. Although I wasn't quite ready to give up on bug fixes, it felt good to take a break and go back to the drawing board, get away from the machine, and dig into what the evolution of the web site and app will look like and what features will be developed. It was good as well to work on other goals related to a healthy web site that are unrelated to code, like what our next server migration will look like, what people we need to head up our most important missions, what we need to drop into place for the mobile app and web to talk to each other, how we can improve our service even during downtime, and how we might improve process to improve our development speed. That all said, we made several updates to the web site this week including: * Dynamic content on the front door * Updates to the beer correction page * Updates to the beer UPC code page * Beer stats page update * Updates to the beer tag editor * Updates to about 60 areas on the site where rate counts are calculated, those were a busy few days I've also spent a considerable amount of time working on the new brewer page. The new version should be much faster, cause the server much less tension and concern, add some more functionality and otherwise be awesome. All the hard part is done. Now I just need to do the dumb stuff and work out one ugly bug. On the horizon for next week are emojigeddon issues (accented characters) especially in places, and brewer scores. Hopefully next week we'll have single sign on issues well tested enough to launch into the new forums, and my next missive will be there. I'm patient. We'll see. It's been really good to hear people on the dev team talk about how much they really enjoy hearing from users, especially face to face or in phone interviews. We're getting a lot of ideas from talking to people, especially power users about how they rate beer and how they use the site. We'll be continuing our interviews and calls. Sorry this episode is a bit dry and sleepy. The weather has been distinctly late autumnal here, it's been cloudy and we're expecting snow on the hilltops this weekend. 60F/15.5C porter in colder air is a very nice experience. Posted by radarsock

Been enjoying a local cider avidly as of recent and was going to add the cidery its attached to it but didn't know what the best option would be. It's actually a winery whose owner occasionally allows two cidermakers access to his winemaking facility; the team uses the facility and releases a few bottles every couple months. So far it's alarmingly very, very small. What I got from my brief phone call with the winemaker himself, is that they probably won't expand or go elsewhere for their cider-making. This makes me think it's more or less an excitingly exclusive thing. Contract brewery, perhaps? I think that just putting it under a brewery would be a touch dishonest. Not exactly a "gypsy brewer" kind of operation, I'm believing. So that's neat. Doesn't seem like a lot of others will want to do this honestly (as everyone wants to brew at everyone's facility! It's a new trend) but I think it's cool that this small team of cider-makers' whole focus is to produce limited batches of cider from one place, a winery down the next town over. And they've all been delicate and really wonderful.
