66 /100 8-12 SYDNEY ST Not an extremely large number of beers, but the vibe is certainly unique. A Chinese-Australian diner inside a large brewpub space, back room has pool and plenty of Bob Hawke memorabilia. Doubt this place feels inviting to Liberals. Visited during first trip to Sydney in 2023. |
70 /100 1A MITCHELL STREET A solid setup in the beer hub of Marrickville. Large industrial interior, an even larger outside space. Plenty of their own range on tap. Visit just before closing during first trip to Sydney in 2023. |
68 /100 1/391-397 ENMORE RD Large converted industrial space with a small bar and handmade pizzas. Closes early but so does almost everywhere. 10 taps, squeelers available, and a half dozen or so options for takeaway. Solid. Visited during first trip to Sydney in 2023. |
82 /100 11-13 BROMPTON STREET In the middle of a Marrickville industrial estate in Sydney's inner-west sits this haven for wild-fermented, sour beers. On my visit there was a selection of 10+ beers most of which were labelled 'acid' with a couple 'bitter'. The atmosphere was relaxed on our Friday afternoon visit. A good range of beers to take away priced at ~$20/bottle or three for $55. |
96 /100 11-13 BROMPTON STREET It’s disgusting how sick this place is. From my Bay Area centric point of view, this is the Rare Barrel or Sante Adairius of the Southern Hemisphere. Super chill barrel house vibe - screams WE ARE BARREL AGING LOADS OF SHIT MOTHERFUCKER, GAME BETTER RESPECT GAME! - in a laid back, “Net ticks and chill” kind of way. The beers are pretty much all top notch, especially by Australia standards. Solid crew running the place. Prices are no higher than you’d expect. I love it. Only complaint is they should open more days/ hours. Crikey mate, this will be my second home while in Sydney. |
82 /100 1A MITCHELL STREET What a great set up. Typical brewery look on entry, with nicely set out tables etc, but then opens out into a huge enclosed yard with space for kids to run and big gangs to hang out without imposing on others. Great choice of beers too. The hoppy freshness is a joy. |
66 /100 Bucket Boys (Beer Store) GROUND FLOOR, 300 ILLAWARRA RD Found on a stroll through marrickville. Decent size bottle shop with bar upstairs. Selection from AUS is good. Had a good amount of big bottles from US and CA as well. Prices are steep, but I probably normal for Sydney |
78 /100 Bucket Boys (Beer Store) GROUND FLOOR, 300 ILLAWARRA RD A nice beer store downstairs and a quaint little bar upstairs. Bar is minimalist and was relaxing compared to the breweries in the area. Service was straight forward. Only 8 taps but a solid selection. Bottle collection downstairs appeared to be top class. A few snacks on site. Prices seemed a touch steep but you pay for selection. Definitely a good stop for visitors. |
70 /100 44 SYDENHAM ROAD Good sized hipster spot with the bar on one side and a cornucopia of seating throughout the spot. Service was fine and flights were available. 10ish beers on tap during my visit. Prices were inline with the area. Not my favorite of the Marrickville breweries but worth a stop if in the area. |
74 /100 25 CADOGAN ST Place was hopping during my visit. A good amount of space with enough seating. Bar on the back of one wall and a bit of outdoor space. Space is open overall. Service was good considering the crowd. 12ish beers on tap with flights available. Prices were inline with the area. Worth a stop during a Marrickville crawl. |
82 /100 11-13 BROMPTON STREET A warehouse style brewery with picnic tables and barrels used for seating and tables. Bartender was friendly and knowledgeable about the beer. They had 10 beers on tap with a number of bottles available as well. No tasting paddles. No food on site outside of bar snacks. Prices were a bit higher than others. Still some of the better beer I had in Australia. |
76 /100 1A MITCHELL STREET A smallish indoor space but great outdoor space out back. Dog and kid friendly. A bit of a tropical vibe out back. Staff was efficient considering the crowd. 12 beers on tap with tasting paddles available. They had a food vendor on site but no in house food outside of bar snacks. Prices were in line with the area. |
78 /100 1/391-397 ENMORE RD Good size spot with an open feel to the place. Plenty of seating and dog friendly. Nice community bar vibe. Staff was friendly and helpful getting tasting paddles. They had 14 beers available on tap and a few to go as well. No food on site and prices seemed in line with the area. |
80 /100 25 CADOGAN ST Pretty low-key place, but after coming from Wildflower and Grifter it was a nice relief. Simple, spacious space with about 12 beers on tap. Reasonable pricing. Flights available. Staff were good. I liked this place. Beer quality was between good and outstanding. I would put this in the must-visit breweries in the area. |
74 /100 1/391-397 ENMORE RD Spacious place. Very busy on a friday afternoon when I arrived. Not the most friendly staff, but they were busy so I understand. Reasonable pricing. Beer is average to good. Lots of taps, so easy to get lots of ratings. I wouldn't say must stop, but decent stop. |
68 /100 44 SYDENHAM ROAD Most overrated place in Sydney. Not to say Batch is bad by any means, but 90% if beer geeks I spoke to are massive fan boys of Batch. I had a few of their bottles around town and thought they were ok to bad, but sicnce I was doing a crawl decided I need to give them a second chance. I just can’t fall in love with them. The brewery was packed when I was there. Service was ok. No compliants but the beers are slightly above average on the whole (though I loved the Chapeau). Worth a stop, like 5th or 6th stop if you are beering around thAt area but don’t believe the hype |
90 /100 11-13 BROMPTON STREET By far the best place in Sydney to drink beer. As of Jan 2019 hours are 2-6pm on Friday and sat. About 10 beers on tap and one cider and one wine. No flights, just $6-9 for 200-250ml pours. All the beers are outstanding. Highly underrated brewery. Had a nice chat with the brewer, very open air place - one downside is its open air and can get hot on hot days. Sell a lot of beers to take away and 3 for $55 is a steal in a country where crappy IPAs in 500ml cans go for $15. Absolutely a must for Sydney for good beer |
80 /100 1A MITCHELL STREET I visited here as part of a 3 brewpub crawl and Sauce was definitely the best venue. As with others in the area the beers are good and there is an overall grungy-industrial vibe but the addition of an expansive beer garden out the back was a great touch. Like others in the area they have a rotating range of food vans. |
80 /100 1/391-397 ENMORE RD This is a cracking venue in a former industrial laundromat on Enmore Road. It is a nice spacious seating area with enough room for a pool table and a food van to park inside the venue. The beers we had were good, staff helpful and all up a great place to start a local brewpub tour if walking down from Newtown station. |
74 /100 44 SYDENHAM ROAD A nice little brewpub on Sydenham Road just a short stroll from Sydnenham train station. It is quite a small and slightly grungy space but with a nice vibe about it. A dozen or so of their own beers - all of which were good that I tried - and on weekends a food van out the front. All up a good place to include on the hit list if visiting brewpubs in the area. |
78 /100 1/391-397 ENMORE RD Good selection of beers and nice beer. The beer itself is good without being great, but it is a great pit stop when hitting up all the breweries in Marrickville |
80 /100 Bucket Boys (Beer Store) GROUND FLOOR, 300 ILLAWARRA RD Beer shop located on Illawarra Road just up from Marrickville station. Great selection of craft beers, range includes Australian and International Breweries, plus afew interesting ciders. Bottles and growler fill available in the shop. Also has a bar upstairs with 10 taps which is open in the evenings from Wednesday to Sunday. Well worth the visit. |
74 /100 44 SYDENHAM ROAD Rustic front bar area with shiny stainless steel fermenters at the back, reasonable tap selection and fridges with bottles. Good ambience and friendly staff. |
78 /100 11-13 BROMPTON STREET Situated in a large corrugated iron clad warehouse in amongst industrial units in Marrickville, great ambience with stacked barrels and rustic bar. Got there abit early when just setting up, but staff friendly and beer was good, although abit pricey as sell by the glass. |
80 /100 1A MITCHELL STREET Found down a back alley in Marrickville, large space with brewing vessels and bar area, through to open outside area with picnic tables. Great selection of Sauce beers, friendly staff
|
82 /100 1/391-397 ENMORE RD Located in an Industrial unit opposite Enmore Park, large bar with 12 taps, open seated area and great view onto the large brewing area. Good atmosphere and friendly staff. |
92 /100 11-13 BROMPTON STREET Good selection of beers, interesting and unique decor and vibe. This is one of the best breweries (or blenders) in Sydney! |
92 /100 1A MITCHELL STREET Large taproom with plenty of seating inside and outside. A large range of beer styles available; including a guest cider and usually one or two guest beers. Great ambiance and a great space, to try what Sauce has to offer! Highly recommended. |
70 /100 11-13 BROMPTON STREET Big warehouse type building. Seating on benches. Only a few beers available due to the limited Wildflower range. Pretty tasty beers though. Pretty good. |
76 /100 44 SYDENHAM ROAD Big place with a pretty wide selection. Beers are mostly good, with a particular flair for fruited sours. Reasonably busy. Flights available. |
78 /100 44 SYDENHAM ROAD Taproom at the front, brewery at the back, the place is 5-10 mins walk from Sydenham station. Around 10 beers on tap, all Batch beers. The place was busy on Saturday early evening, good ambience & service was decent. Food truck out the front for eats had mostly sold out so must have had good trade. |
78 /100 1A MITCHELL STREET Taproom at the brewery with both inside and outside space. Around 12 beers on tap, including a couple of guests from other breweries. Friendly staff, it’s worth a visit if doing a tour of breweries around the Marrickville area |
82 /100 11-13 BROMPTON STREET Taproom at the brewery in Marrickville. Seating for perhaps 30 people inside. Five beers being served on my visit, it was great to sample their wares. The guys are real friendly. Bottles can be bought to takeaway at much cheaper prices than their bottles can be bought in bottleshops - $50 for an Amber, a Gold & a Table Beer (all 750mls). A visit here could constitute part of a brewery crawl around Marrickville with other breweries so close by |
82 /100 Bucket Boys (Beer Store) GROUND FLOOR, 300 ILLAWARRA RD Some interesting beers from around the world that I have not seen including from home some a little costly but still if you want them they are not too bad on the whole enough to keep you happy big beers like old and strong ales I have never seen before good online shop |
88 /100 44 SYDENHAM ROAD Taproom within the warehouse styled brewery. Always has a good and varied selection of beers, so almost always guaranteed to find something new on tap. The quality of their beers can be a bit hit and miss - they are never bad, just often are a bit basic or generic. Great atmosphere. Is definitely a comfortable place to have a few beers, whether with your partner or a larger group of mates. Definitely worth a visit! |
76 /100 44 SYDENHAM ROAD Brewery taproom in an industrial area, near a rubber stamp factory. Open every day but closes early, good for pre-gaming. They have some of the more creative beers of the area brewpubs, for better and for worse. $25 may sound steep for a paddle but you get a large amount of beer, could easily be shared by 3-4 people. Has take-away. Check it out! |
58 /100 Bucket Boys (Beer Store) GROUND FLOOR, 300 ILLAWARRA RD clean but no ambience. Service is sketchy. no value when they sell beers that are oxidised
Fairly new shop. Very clean and organised. All beers in a fridge, except for a few on a shelf. has ciders, cans, etc.
4 growler taps. Some of their own beers and some from other breweries. Pretty much every style covered and a good range from all the major countries. Sources beers from harder to get places like Tasmania. Like gear? they stock it. Bottle openers, glasses, shirts, etc.
Location is off Marrickville Rd, so is a haul to get to and very limited parking is a detraction.
No food but that is OK. Solid place if in Inner West Sydney. If not, a bit of haul to get there and to deal with a lot to buy a beer.
Overall a very strong shop to buy from and a range that is better than the best Sydney shops. Sleeker than the best shops in the country. |
70 /100 44 SYDENHAM ROAD Busy place on a late saturday afternoon. In an industrial area not far from the train stop. 10 beers on tap, some bottles to. A pre-set 6 beer flight avaible for 25 dollars. Quality from below average to rather good. Good service. |
78 /100 44 SYDENHAM ROAD This is one of the best craft beer stops in Sydney. Located in an industrial area, the interior is very welcoming and fairly expansive, with lots of long bar tables and couches. The beer itself is extremely good, with most of the 10 beers we sampled being of top notch quality. You can do paddles of 6 for $25 or small glasses of beer for $5, the latter of which is a good deal for the city. Service is very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended when in Sydney. |
76 /100 44 SYDENHAM ROAD Visited on 3rd April 2016. About a 5 min walk from Sydenham station this is a nice set up. Seating and bar area at the front of the building along the left hand side with a few knackered old sofas and chairs. Brewery toward the rear. Had a good range of beers with a few unusual beers including a gherkin beer which was odd but really good. Bottle selection in the fridge was excellent. Staff were friendly and happy to talk about the beer.
Definitely one to visit if in Sydney |
72 /100 44 SYDENHAM ROAD Warehouse brewery near Sydenham station. It’s all pallets and worn-out furniture. Music is very good (indie/inner city groove feel). Very busy when we were there, early Sunday arvo. The Jars are only used for beer flights now. You walk through the brewery workings on the way to the toilet, which is fun. Well worth a visit. |
76 /100 44 SYDENHAM ROAD Outstanding brewery in Sydney, with expat American brewers not cutting any corners. Had a flight and not one dud among them. Quite the opposite, each one was better than the next and it would have been a struggle to choose which to pint. Unfortunately they close a little early so I didn’t even get to make that choice...I’d say the American-style ales are their strong suit--IPAs, IIPAs, CDAs, etc. Prices on par with the rest of town but at least here you are getting your money’s worth. I noticed a small barrel project in the brewery. I would say this would be one of the "must" breweries when visiting Sydney. They are a cut above the rest. |
72 /100 44 SYDENHAM ROAD Industrial park brewpub with a wide range of regulars, seasonals and specials. Brewery license so early closing. Laid back vibe. But the beers, well, this is one of the better breweries in Sydney so it’s worth it on that score alone. |
86 /100 44 SYDENHAM ROAD Visited Thursday October 15, 2015, shortly after they opened, arrived about 2pm+. No food truck, but they had beer! Very nice service. Normally 6 beers on tap, one paddle of 250 ml each is $25. Also had 4 from the tasting fridge. A place I’d go back to for sure! Some tables and chairs, also some sofas. Buy tasters or by the glass, also bombers and growlers available. Not far from Sydenham station. I walked down from Young Henry’s in Newtown, doable but sweaty. Some parking just next to the building, didn’t check if reserved or not. |
70 /100 44 SYDENHAM ROAD The brewery and taproom operate out of a warehouse in inner west Sydney. The front is spacious with sofas, table and bar seating. There’s six beers on tap plus four more from the test fridge, which were variants of their core range on my visit. Beers are served in those atrocious mason jars so deducted points accordingly :-). Fridges are full of pre-filled growlers. Food truck outside. Staff we’re friendly. Popular spot that’s a welcome addition to the area. |
70 /100 44 SYDENHAM ROAD We visited this brewery on 17.2.2015. Very similar set up as Young Henry brewery we visited a couple of days ago. This brewery opened only 18 months ago. Nice tap room with graffiti, sofas and direct access to the brew house. The beers are served in kind of marmalade glasses. All beers are quite ok, not too intensive in taste though. Service behind the bar was very friendly. We liked the beer T-Shirts. |
78 /100 44 SYDENHAM ROAD This is a craft brewery in a small industrial area near Marrickville. When they open for the public its a pretty good set up with a band and a food truck in attendance. |
