86 /100 88 LIMESTONE STREET I was genuinely impressed with this place. The staff were lovely, the beer is awesome, the food fantastic, can’t big it up enough. |
82 /100 88 LIMESTONE STREET Great brewery/bar. Located in the basement of a heritage-listed building (unfortunately covered in scaffolding when I was there). Small range of beers, a couple of guest taps. Food was delicious and good value. Staff were knowledgeable, happy and efficient. Great place, good beer. |
78 /100 88 LIMESTONE STREET This is a remarkable heritage building that’s over one hundred years old. The original location was the site of a natural spring, dubbed the ’Pump Yard’ that was later built on and became a technical college for many years. The corner block, which was once the plumbing and metal shop, is now fittingly home to 4 Hearts Brewing. The interior has been smartly redesigned with exposed brick, woodwork and soft lighting that gleams off the 12hl brewhouse, fermenters and serving tanks. There’s six house brews on tap at any one time with a core range including a pale ale, wheat, IPA and stout as well as two specialties on my visit with a carrot saison and a coffee and lactose brewed cream ale, all of which drank pretty good. As a plus, there’s a few more taps dedicated to guest lines along with a dozen or so interesting bottles that the brewer picks himself. They even have Cantillon in the fridge and not at stupid prices I’ve seen elsewhere. These bottles can be purchased for take away and growler fills of the house brews are available. The food menu is upper scale pub grub that dishes up some interesting offerings such as a beef cheek burger, soft shell crab souvlaki and pork belly pizza. Good service from a friendly bartender. A wonderful location and of note this is the first brewery to open in Ipswich since 1903! A must visit for good beer with a large slice of history. |
