“Nice bar area here at North Water Brewing in Kent, Ohio. One bartender 12 beers on tap. Classic rock on the radio. Patio and tables. Simple food menu. They bring in food trucks. Nice Saturday day crowd using bike trail behind the building. Beers to go here including crowlers, growlers, and canned beer. Souvenir shirts and hats here also. Dim lighting with a garage door open. Nice place to spend an afternoon. Cheers!“

“Small parking lot and street parking for Bell Tower Brewing here in Kent, Ohio. Constructed in a church, sitting in a neighborhood, this is a very nice facility. 13 house beers and 1 guest cider is on tap. Bar sits about 20 people and plenty of tables. Guess you need reservations for weekend nights. Good crowd here already about 5 o’clock on a Saturday. Couple of bartenders and a group of waitresses for the tables. Lighting is dim with some lighting from windows. Soft pop music is playing on the radio. Souvenirs shirts, hats and beer to go . Very enjoyable place and the beer is really good here too! Cheers!“

“Brewery in an old church, incorporating the architectural features into the design. Medium sized bar, tables, private rooms and loft seating. Full food menu, what I ordered was excellent. Tap list favors Belgian styles, 17 taps offers plenty to choose from. Bustling, lively atmosphere. Good service. Worth a visit“

“This is an industrial style taproom with lots of pinball machines and other games. They have a dozen of their own beers on tap most of the time. They do brew solid stuff and it's worth the stop for the beer alone. It does have an industrial grunge vibe. Periodic food trucks.“

“Warehouse type brewery a bit off on its own. Plenty of parking available. Inside is fairly spacious as well. One side of the place is like an arcade and the other has picnic tables for seating and drinking. All orders are placed at the bar. Flights are available. Decent variety in beers. Quality of beer was good as well.“

“Very cool place with a great selection of single cans and bottles, a large walk in cooler with a pretty good selection of kegs as well. Friendly service. Plus a bar with a long list of beers on draft. They had just done a Rhinegeist tap takeover when I stopped in, so kind of uninteresting for me, but I plan to stop in another time when they are more normal. Great place!“

“Great place--very informal, but friendly service. Picnic tables and large screen TV’s in one room; games on the other side. No food except snacks are sold--it’s bring your own. Beer was good--the obligatory IPA variations, a decent pale ale and pretty good vienna lager.“

“A hidden new gem on Mogadore Rd. in Kent Ohio. Saturday evening with Kentucky Derby on television and the place is packed. Need to go to bar to order beer. Food truck is here. Big spacious area to drink with a couple televisions. They have life size jinga, pinball and skeetball also. They have like rotating beers here on tap. You can also bring in your own food Worth a visit“

“The atmosphere is good, sort of English pub-like with lots of warm dark wood. It is divided into two halves with tables and booths in both but a large bar with many easily read taps in one part. They have another bar upstairs which I have not seen. It is apparently used for banquets or college students on busy Friday and Saturday nights. I like to sit at the bar where I can see the taps and the pours and test the knowledge of the bartenders. The many bartenders I have met at Ray’s Place have known their beers and been for the most part attentive. The beer selection is very good. They have 41 beers on tap from all over the country and some imports. Regional beers are well represented. Great Lakes Brewing beers have a big presence and they generally carry their seasonals. Most beers are served in pint glasses or tall 20? ouncers. Prices are reasonable, craft brews are in the range of $5 per pint with some as high as $7.25 when I visited (3/01/11). I particularly appreciate the fact that they have many obscure and hard-to-find beers. Most of the bartenders are happy to discuss beers and recommend their favorites. Beer flights (4 oz?) are available 4 to a tray for the cost of the highest priced beer on the tray. In addition, they have a large selection of bottled beer on hand. Menu is adequate with a good selection of appetizers and burgers. I have only tried the burgers and fries which were both served in hearty portions and were flavorful. The service is good. I thoroughly enjoy visiting Ray’s and stop there whenever I am in the neighborhood. “

“Great place for a beer with always a new selection. I have been going for 12 months. Only issue, they can’t seem to keep good help. Turnover way to high. Effects the Ambiance "- the mood, character, quality, tone, atmosphere, etc., particularly of an environment". I guess they rotate staff like their beers.“

“Great place. They get almost every beer that comes into Ohio. Hundreds of bottles and a rotating tap list that is always awesome. As far as food goes, they don’t serve food but you can bring your own if you want and they have a food truck at most of their tasting events. Staff is friendly and very knowledgeable. Give it a try.“

“As far as selection of beer goes, it is great. They have a solid bottle selection featuring some of the greats from every beer style. There draft list is always full of everything from a local favorite (peanut butter cup porter) to some not-so-easy to get such as the current I want, but can not have all the time-- Three Floyds. Now, here is where it gets bad. I have been here 5 times since they started draft service. Three out of five I had the unfortunate luck of dealing with the rudest, most dull, and arrogant bar tender ever. I tried to spark a simple conversation, asking about the taste of a beer on draft and he nearly treated me as if I killed his grandmother. He mumbled out an answer and then began to talk to his friend who was a patron at the bar. I can get over this, BUT, each time I was there I tipped him 40% of the check average (I am a fellow bartender and always appreciate a bigger than expected tip). HE NEVER EVEN SAID THANK YOU! This happened the firs time, so I thought maybe he was busy and forgot. The second time he failed to produce one speck of gratitude toward my generosity. So, just on principle, I again, one last time tipped him and he failed to thank me. I’m sorry my friend, but when you rely on people to tip you for a living, you must show gratitude with a simple "thank you". Is it that hard? Very disappointed with the staff at this place. I will never again step foot in the establishment when this snuffy, thick framed glasses kid is working ever. Not again, not ever. I hate to go on a rant, but I am furious about it because I enjoy this place, but just can’t continue to give business to a person such as him. Good luck if you decide to go there to enjoy a beer and talk to a reasonable bartender.“

“Neat little tasting room and good bottle shop, but a step behind Lizardville in price and tap selection, and service. Some good taps on, but you have to find them yourself as list badly out of date. Most beers sold are refrigerated, and few six packs broken up.“

“Rerate: Nice bar and restaurant. Great burgers and fries. Service is sometimes slow, but that’s only because they’re always packed. Best selection of beer on tap or in bottles out of all the bars in Kent- now that Professor’s is closed there’s no competition. Decent prices too. If you don’t like rowdy college crowd, go on a weeknight.“

“The best beer bar in north east Ohio if you are in the Kent area. They carry plenty of rares and the selection changes weekly. If you are trying to have a beer you have never had before whether you are an experienced craft beer drinker or a newbie than this is the spot. I go here once a week and have never had a bad experience.“

Acme Fresh Market - Kent (Grocery Store)
1709 STATE ROUTE 59
“Grocery store with somewhat narrow aisles, while the major clientele seem to be very slow, very old people who probably shouldn’t be driving themselves to the supermarket, or anywhere, and impatient college kids. Anyone in between shops at Giant Eagle. But the beer selection is pretty decent, and you can get a nice, thick pork chop off the shelf without having to bother the butcher for a good cut. Produce could be better and offer more variety, but the bakery more than makes up for that. Canned stuff, dry goods, and frozen food seem pricy, with a somewhat limited selection. I only go there for beer, pork chops, and premium OJ when it’s on sale.“

“Great Place. Recently remodeled a few years ago. Way above average for a college town bar and grill. 68 beer tap selection between upstairs and down. Hundreds in bottles. Many craft beers as well as the traditional run of the mill big brewery stuff. The staff are all attentive and courteous. A very professionally run operation. A well rounded patronage from families and local business people during lunch and dinner to college students in the evenings. Highly recommended!“

“Stopped in here for a couple beers on a slow afternoon. The service in the bottle area was pretty shitty... dude didn’t even look up from his computer and the other clown was too busy sitting on his ass to bother. Not that big of a deal, but it’s not that hard to act like you’re doing your job. Bottle selection is pretty good. The service points were bumped up due to the guy behind the bar... he was running. Great selection of taps from Ohio and elsewhere... Brew Kettle, Columbus, FFF, and more. I like the area too, but it is a bit of a drive. Definitely worth a stop.“

“First stop for Tara’s birthday, big tap list sorted by price, everything from Bud Light @ 3.25 a pint to Epic IIPA @ 6.25 a glass. everythign in between as well, I enjoyed some All day IPA and Willoughby PB Cup Porter, others enjoyed conways Irish ale and guinness. Our server was great, joked with us and had a good time, crowd was minimal on a Wednesday at midnight, and prices were perfectly in line with college town. Neat little place and the food smelled great.. they even had hopslam in bottles cold.“

“Stopped in here on a wednesday night at around 1030pm while waiting for some friends to get out to the bars, lots of coolers, vastly different from the last time I was here, coolers now ring the perimeter, with goodies from Epic, 3F (Behemoth still on the shelf when I visited), Great Lakes, Jolly Pumpkin etc.. 24 taps however the tap room can only ring out draft orders, you cannot have one check if you’re buying bottles and drinking draft beer, kind of a nuisance. The clerk was polite and even offered suggestions as to his favorites of the styles I had chosen.. Dedicated Ohio cooler loaded with Hoppin Frog, Buckeye and Great Lakes.. some old Buckeye stuff from months ago, but still a good selection, even some Rogue XS stuff I havent seen in a long while. Wish it was closer.. but with the loft next door.. i may be back.“

“A great bottle shop for Ohio. They recently added a new bar area with 24 outstanding taps from top notch breweries. Nice small seating area with about 7 tables and the bar area as well. Drink a great craft beer while looking through their coolers of craft beer bottles. Growlers available for about 1/2 of their taps. Would like to see them allow more of their taps to have growler fills however. Pizza and Subs available next door establishments for eating in at 101 Bottles.“

“Ray’s Place has expanded their downstairs tap selection in the last year and they have really stepped up in getting some more exotic craft beers on draft as well. The food is always good with a lot of variety on the menu. The only complaint I have is despite the numerous tap handles at the downstairs bar, they have a lot of domestics occupying those handles. I realize that a lot of the regulars drink those beers, but I think Ray’s could push some of them off in favor of more craft handles. However, I would definitely recommend stop at Ray’s if you are in the Kent area. Their beer and food selection is hard to beat in this part of Ohio.“

“Quite frankly, you are not going to find a better beer selection in Ohio. I’ve been to the best places in Cincinnati and Cleveland and they cannot compete with 101 Bottles. They may not carry every beer on the planet, but the beers they carry are the cream of the crop. I would rather have the best beers from a given brewery than everything mediocre that a brewery has to offer. I think people often confuse quantity with quality. The staff is very knowledgeable and always willing to offer suggestions to customers. In my opinion, I would rather have time to peruse their exceptional beer selection myself. As a craft beer connoisseur, I do not need someone hovering over my shoulder every five minutes asking if I need help anyway. Anytime I have asked a question about a particular beer, I have always received prompt, courteous service. I would strongly recommend anyone travelling through Northeast Ohio to stop in and see what 101 Bottles has to offer.“

“Nice little place in a little plaza in Kent. Lots of wine but a really good beer selection surrounding the perimeter of the store. Some really good finds. Weyerbacher, Mikkeller, Hoppin’ Frog, Founders and Bells to name a few. Good prices on some of the bigger Belgian bottles. Staff was talking beer to some other customers but since we didn’t really need any help, it wasn’t that big a deal. They seemed knowledgeable though. Good stop in if you get the chance.“

“Fun place to go with friends; usually doesn’t get TOO crowded, it isn’t overran by college kids, and most importantly, the tap list is great (check it out on their website). They offer most Great Lakes selections, alongside many beers from Hoppin’ Frog, Founders, and Bell’s.“

“strolled in to check out the selection and quickly came up on a huge box of scores including speedway stout, some stone stuff and a mixed 6 pack. probably 12-15 coolers (all beer is kept cold here) and 2-3 of them are strictly 12oz singles for mixed 6 packs. emphasis on american craft with probably only 2 coolers on belgians or other foreign 750s/6packs. tons of local ohio stuff. in the walk in cooler there is a 10 page+ list of anything available in 1/6 barrel kegs, impressive list and mouthwatering at that! nice decor all around, real clean. pretty large wine selection also and the staff is glad to help. after about 5-7 minutes i had my beers in hand and was ready to leave as normal....ended up staying 2-3 hours drinking and discussing beer with justin and dave from hoppin frog. honestly one of the best beer experiences ive ever had anywhere. great selection and great service, im more then satisfied!“

“Some kind of dance music playing. Some college coeds working who never venture from behind the counter. Better selection than expected. Had alesmith, bruery, some local stuff, etc. More bottles and a larger selection of singles than riverside. I purchased some stuff that 101 bottles had but riverside didn’t and vice versa. I would swing by both locations if you are in the area and have the time. If you can only go to one, I would go to riverside since they had some good beers on tap.“

“Was here last night for happy hour. A nice atmosphere and pretty good service at the bar. Just ordered chili cheese fries and some beers from their draft and bottle list. About 20 or so beers on tap ranging from Magic Hat #9 to La Chouffe and a decent bottle list but nothing spectacular. Probably the best Kent has to offer but pales in comparison to other brewpubs. They did have free wifi though which was nice.“

“I have to disagree with mrbunn. I was the only person in the store every time that I have been in there, but the service has always been good and the last time I was in the aprox. 3 weeks ago the guy was more than helpful. I do like riverside a little more, because if the owner is there and you ask for something unusual, he will offer free samples of what they have on tap that is similar to your request. But that being said, 101 has a great selection, the best within 50+ miles good prices, and in my experience a very helpful staff.“

“Dumpy looking college town beer store from the exterior. Nice looking fancy wine store inside. Selection is better than Riverside with more singles available and slightly better prices on most things. Selection of local brews is very good, a pretty decent smattering of imports and other micros. Service is lousy. I’m not sure that I was acknowledged until I went to pay.“

“(Visited 03/2008): This store is located near the Kent State campus not too far from I-76. It is in a strip mall with a decent-sized private lot. The store is very open-looking with a most of the product around the edge of the store. There are beer coolers containing sixers and singles along the left and rear. The right part of the store has wine, and there is also a walk-in cooler for what I assume is macro-type stuff. The beer selection is pretty good, and there is a pretty good array of singles. Beers from Rogue, Stone, GLBC, Bell’s and the like are next to some more rare brewers like Mad River. Imports from the UK, Germany, Belgium etc are mixed in as well. The service is about what you would expect at a campus-area beer stop. The guy wasn’t rude but wasn’t particularly helpful either. He kind of just stared at me as I walked by the cashier stand. Overall I would lean toward Riverside for beer purchases because there you can have some gourmet cheese and a pint of something good while you deliberate your purchase. Still, this place is worth a look if you are in the neighborhood.“

“I usually stop in here before classes when it is not packed to the gills with undergraduates drinking cheap swill. Last time I visited Hopslam was just on and very good. The selection tends to cover a few typical beers but there is always a suprise or two waiting. The food is respectable and on par with most other bars. Parking can be tricky - you may end up walking a block or two as there is not much in the immediate area. Still if you need a combination of food and beer this is the best place in town to stop.“

“Now that I have a reason to be down in Kent on a regular basis this may become a go-to location. Being out of Cuyahoga County you can get the same beers cheaper by virtue of lower taxes. The selection is solid and covers a nice range of imports and domestic beers. Many are available in singles as well in case you want to mix and match. All cases are against the wall which makes getting around very easy even when multiple people are browsing. If you happen to be in the area stop here first then pick up everything else at Riverside before returning to Cleveland.“

“I met some people here prior to a concert at the Kent Stage. As it turns out I wish I would have opted for Ray’s instead. The beer menu is not that bad but nothing jumped out to me.
