“An outlet for the booze distributor that runs TDM 1874 brewery. This place is focused on wine, but you can get TDM cans here too. You can drink them in shop, but there is a ¥300 corkage fee. Really just a place to get their beers. There are a few other beers and ciders too.“

“Lovely place, kind of posh. Good selection of beers brewed at AJB in Nagano, plus a few brewed here now too. Good beers. Prices are on the high side. Tasting set available.“

“Just opened, not fully running, so this is a provisional review. Tap room and bottle shop for Cardinal Trading, which brings in beers from the East Coast USA, focused on Virginia. Pretty place overlooking the water with a nice patio outside for when it's good weather. Prices on taps are average. Nice plus is that there is no corkage charge for drinking bottles and cans in house, so you can share and try many. Food is yet to be going yet, but you can bring your own. Should be a great addition to the scene, taking over for the lost Antenna America in a way.“

“On the same street as the Baird taproom. 7 beers on tap as well as a few bottles. Some Yokohama Brewery memorablia like shirts. The fish and chips was excellent.“

“Small place. Japanese patrons, maybe regulars? Mediocre Japanese-style bar food, the pickled vegetables were so-so. About 8 beers on tap or so.“

“Easy to reach with public transport. English speaking staff. Went there on a thursday afternoon, the place had a few patrons but wasn‘t exactly busy. A few of their seasonals on tap. Lots of meaty dishes.“

“Small brewpub near Bashamichi Station. They usually have 3-4 of their own beers, plus some imports on tap. Bottles too, but didn't check them. They are doing lots of German styles, including some adventurous lagers and kellerbiers. So far it seems pretty good, although I think they will have issues with lagering time on this little system. Friendly people, relaxing atmosphere, interesting beers. Watch out for the peat!“

“Upscale place on the water. Very flashy, and for Sunday lunch mostly rich people showing off. Better off sitting outside on a nice day. Beer was pretty decent, not cheap but not crazy considering the area. Sitting upstairs, it took forever to get out beers. Staff is of the "genki, want to speak English" type, which is a bit irritating after a while but works well enough. Not a place I would regularly hang out, unless sitting at the bar it better.“

“Ok. Some explanation needed. I went once to check it out and had a good time, but will not go back. This hotel chain is run by rabid right-wing nationalists who display racist tendencies, so I generally boycott them. For research's sake, just one stop. That said, it's a nice place. Spacious, well designed, brand-spanking new and they spent a lot of money on it. Prices were very cheap for January--otherwise, they seem like they will be ridiculously expensive--like ¥1300-1500 per pint for house brewed beers. There were like 20 taps, half of which were imports from Nagano Trading. The coolest thing was the music, Hendrix, Stones, even Motorhead almost blasting. Cool. Tried 6 of their beers, of which 3 were pretty good and the others needed work. Once was more than enough though.“

“I think the place moved, but not sure. Small place with a long counter. Interesting lineup with KBC, Nara, Ushi, AJB, etc. Prices slightly higher than average but not much. 3 sizes is nice and they are all nearly even in value.“

78 /100 YOKOHAMA STATION
“Just wanted to add a bit more information to the previous two reviews. As KyotoLefty mentioned it can be tricky to find if you don't know Yokohama stn. Just head for Food & Time Isetan---it's in there. However, contrary to TimE's info, they definitely do not allow outside food at their seating area---which sucks if you're there at lunch, because it's basically a hot dog or nothing. I understand that approach during the week, but it's absurd on weekends, unless they expand the menu then. They were nice about it though. I was just really hungry and had already had a hot dog and followed the advice here. Resist the idea to sit at the tables/stools adjacent to the shop. Uncomfortable as fuck---designed to keep people moving. Head to the main food court area for a few different styles of seating. Bottle/can stock better than the original location.“

“A bit hard to find if you don’t know the station well. Nice area to grab beers and food. Good selection, slightly more expensive than Kannai, but the best beer you will find in this station.“

78 /100 YOKOHAMA STATION
“To get here, go to the Yokohama Station South Exit (which is in the B1), turn right out of the ticket gate and soon you will see an area called Isetan Joinus or something. Once you enter that area, on the left side is basically the food area, which includes a super market, but 10-20 restaurants with food court like seating in the middle. You can order from anywhere and take it anywhere else. Antenna America is towards the back, but easy enough to find. This AA has similar prices, tap and bottle list to the original Kannai location, and despite the concept being more similar to the Shinagawa branch, this is clearly much better. AA is one of the few venues that has its own seating. Unfortunately its only stools and small circular tables, which lends to move as a stop over place than a place you want to linger. You can take your drinks out to the main food court area and sit there (you can also bring any food into AA), but overall its great place to stop and have a meal - loved the pizza place down there, but less so if you just want to go out drinking with friends for the night. The atmosphere is OK. It feels more like a modern retail beer store than anything else, but pleasant enough. However, the location can:t be beat and if they are just trying to get commuters coming and going from Yokohama station, then they nailed it. Bottle selection wont: disappoint, so good for taking out. Staff were a bit friendlier here than in Kannai (at the moment anyways). We were hiking in Kamakura during the day and wanted a beer on the way home. The original AA is just too inconvenient go get to from Kamakura so we would have not gone there, but this was perfect for an early dinner and a couple after hike beers. I still like the original AA the best. I think better seating and slightly larger tables, would help this place if they want people to spend a few hours here.“

“Update #2: this place has improved a great deal since they first opened. The beer list is now consistently interesting with good to great selection of Japanese and US beers at reasonable prices. The staff are more knowledgeable and the food, while not amazing, is very good - especially if you are coming in for a late bite.“

“Came here on 15.11.2017. A bar in the ground floor and two more floors above with tables. They have 10 of their standard beers and 5 saisonal Baird beers + 1 from the hand pump. I have always liked their beers. Unfortunately my first choice was not available. Had a Teikiku IPA which was as expected really good. Did not like the lay out and ambience of the location too much but worthwhile to visit due to the very good Baird beers.“

“Came here on 15.11.2017. Located in a large shopping mall, very difficult to find, ask for B2 floor. They have 4 bars tapping draft beers from different countries and offer +200 bottle beers. A strange concept as the real purpose of the different bars does not come across. We had some US and German beers which were ok. Food (steaks) was decent too. Overall a commercial place which is absolutely ok if you stay in one of the hotels close by, otherwise not worth a detour.“

“Inconvient, but cool place. Kyoto’s review is spot on above but what I was surprised is a big selection of Japanese craft beers by the bottle and huge sale selection. This is a serious liquor destination beyond the fact it’s a brewery as well. Lots of people coming in and our just to pick up a few bottles of this and that. I’d be here all the time if it was in my neighborhood. Food was not bad as well and very reasonably priced“

“Location is a bit inconvenient. 8-10 minute walk from Tokaichiba station. Small taproom area, with a liquor shop and the brewery. No room for a crowd, but nice if not crowded. Prices are very good, about ¥430 / ¥740 for 1/2 pint and pint (plus tax). Had just the first 4 beers but they were all quite good and should get even better. If it was near my house, I would stop in regularly. As it is, I will definitely make the trek when I am in Yokohama in order to see how the beers progress.“

“Sit-down Japanese restaurant. Food looked good but did not eat. 5 beers in a tasting set for ¥800 was great value. Beers were hit and miss and extract brewed. Dry hopped or fruit stuff was actually quite great, dark beers pretty lame. Very nice people, though, and a good time. worth a stop if you are in the neighborhood.“

“Fun place. 4 or 5 taps of Japanese Craft. Maybe not so exciting stuff. Very out of the way. Standing bar with a couple of old armchairs. Visited just after opening and had a nice chat with the master. Imagine it gets lively in the evenings as there’s not much else around. Visit for a fun experience, rather than for the beer, which is fine, but probably not worth making a special trip.“

“Another Yokohama bar and this one is on the classier side. 12 taps of Japanese stuff including a house beer made by Nest. Beer flight available, 3 x 120ml for ¥1000. Tax added afterwards. No cover charge but tax added on at the end. Decent selection of breweries. Sometimes closed for private parties. The first time I tried to visit I couldn’t get in. Nice place though.“

“Spacious brewpub with two floors. The second floor is huge and it seems they have live music from time to time. The first floor is the bar area with a few tables a seats at the bar. 4 beer sampler was 1500 yen for 100 to 150 ml pours I assume including their regular lineup. Seasonals come in 3 sizes which make it a nice place to come for a few ticks. Only 6 taps on when we visited.“

“Now rebranded as Umaya but seems pretty similar to when I last went there a few years ago. Stayed downstairs in the bar area. Staff were very friendly. Beer tasting set available and they serve all their beers in small sizes perfect for trying lots of stuff. Beers not hugely exciting and didn’t like the seasonals to be honest. Daytime opening at the weekend though.“

“Small place on the second floor. We sat on tatami mats. Beer was cheap and approachable but the atmosphere and beer together don’t really motivate you to linger. Good for one if in the area or passing through Kanazawa bunko and you have some extra time. 200 yen seating charge“

“Cool place above the brewery with a tatami section as well. Don’t want to sit there, but it looked cool. 5 house beers on tap. 2 were quite good, 2 were ok, only the Weizen was a bit weak. Seems they have improved vastly in the few months since they opened. Glad to see that, and expect they will continue to get better. Worth a stop. 1 minute walk from Kanazawa Bunko Station.“

“Slick place. Decent selection of taps. No table charge. As Tim said, half pint prices are reasonable, pint prices double that and thus a bit high. I was happy to stop in and try a few interesting beers.“

“A little bit confusing to find. Feels like more of a restaurant, than a pub. Decent size and warm feeling. 10 beers on tap, but three were out when we were there, but still it was impressive and well thought out 7 beers. Pricing is unique. Its totally fine for beer geeks, but if you are a Pint only type of guy this place is way over priced. 600 yen for 240ml (half pint) which is reasonable, but the 500ml is 1200 yen. One of the very few places in Japan where half a pint is half the price. Sampler of 120ml *3 for 1000 yen is OK value. Food looked pretty standard. Service was OK. Its a bit away from other beer bars, but I thought the selection was pretty solid. Worth a look.“

“Maybe we went there on a bad night, but I don’t quite get what people see in this place. The selection was not great; certainly large but with very few things of interest and a heavy reliance on cheap kegs. Food was nice, but they aren’t very good for vegetarians. No possibility to remove meat from the quesadillas and many dishes that had no mention of meat in the name had that secret bonus meat thing that seems common in Japan. I was in Saizeriya this afternoon and they were far more obliging with removing meat from their menu and they are a huge chain. I’ve heard the other branches might be better but I’m not so keen to check them out now. Oh, and also, the pouring was terrible. I don’t usually moan about these things but our order of two pints of the same beer came with one glass about 4/5 full and the other 3/5 full. Other beers were coming out from the bar with over 50% head. The staff were all very friendly, but I think they’re out of their depth. (hence the low score). Nice feel to the place meant that atmosphere wise it was a nice evening, but given that I couldn’t find enough interesting stuff to make up a three beer sampler, I think they need to make quite a few improvements to keep people happy.“

“I was really surprised by this place. About 8 beers on tap and six of which I had never tried before. Well thought out tap selection (should see if it is always this interesting or just the night I went). Nice that they have 150ml samples available. Nice staff. Stood outside. Worth a stop as it is very close to AA and El nubichimon.“

“Nice enough place. Selection was maybe a little high on omiyage beers, but they did still have some good stuff and some stuff from unusual brewers (guess this could go both ways). Smoking, which loses it some points for me. Lots of competition in the area which takes the shine off a little.“

“A newish beer bar and restaurant down the road from Thrash Zone. It was totally packed on my visit, I guess being the new kid on the craft beer block a lot of folks are keen to check it out. I managed to squeeze the last seat at the bar and service was attentive during my time here. The beer selection is decent and split across different styles - 30 taps in total. Good food menu, I ordered the horse meat tartare washed back with a Wild Beer Co Saison. It was all good. I’d return to give this place another crack next time I’m in town.“

“Visited at opening and the friendly bartender was happy to pour a flight on request. It did take a while to receive and in the meantime had a look around the bar area, not that there’s much to see but you can catch glimpse of the brewing kit behind the bar. The beers are brewed to classic styles...nothing wrong with that but I can’t say there were any real standouts however the Bohemian Pils was the most solid on the day. Personally, it’s not a place I would want to linger for long but to try the beers it’s worth the pit stop.“

“This was the last spot hit on a recent beer crawl around Yokohama. It’s got a real nice vibe here and although it’s just got the six rotating taps available it’s an enjoyable bar to chill out with a few beers. Great tunes and the staff were accommodating and friendly as you can get. Worth a look for sure.“

“This was a fun place to visit on a recent crawl around town. Very welcoming with a friendly owner and regulars happy to have a chat. Eight taps and got to try a cherry blossom beer. I can’t say how interesting the tap lineup was on my visit but the owner did mention they rotate regularly. He will also prepare small plates of food if hungry. A relaxed vibe here that made for an enjoyable visit.“

“It’s tucked away on a narrow street some blocks away from the ferry terminal and take note that it’s a dedicated walk out here but could tie in with a visit to Biere Cave Jan Bar about a 15 minute walk away. It’s another cozy bar to sample a few brews, all Japanese. My first visit had the likes of Y-Market, Kyoto, Brimmer and Isekadoya which made for a solid lineup along with others to make up 12. However, a revisit the next day I counted at least four taps now sitting empty. Three different size pours are available. There’s a small kitchen out back and a side room suitable for dining which looks to sit 15 or so. Friendly service as expected. It may not be worth the trek if short on time but well handy if you find yourself in the area and thirsty.“

“Very good food, for starters. Good selection of taps, maybe not quite great. Taps prices fair. Great bottle list but they are stupidly expensive, so I can’t imagine ever buying one, especially since they are all available elsewhere in Japan. Like it, though. Really enjoyed the food.“

“I’m pretty sure the map is wrong on RB so check the FB Page or their website to be sure. A nice enough place of pine that is medium sized. They had 8 taps but just 6 were on when I went. Sizes were S280ml/M360ml/L568ml and prices were S (650-750 yen) M (8-900) and L (1250-1300) and included tax without a table charge. On tap: Aqula, Minoh, Swan Lake, Hitachino and Kyoto Brewing plus one brewery I’d never heard of Takikawa Beer Factory. I found this place on the way to my capsule hotel around the corner and seeing as they had a brewery that was completely new to me I popped in during my crawl. It was quiet when I went on a Saturday night (long weekend) so no smoking at that time but I heard they allow it. A decent enough place if they’ve got something you want to try.“

“It is a nice looking place with a standing area and 4? tables seating a dozen or so but for a higher price so when I went no one sat down to save money. Kind of weird. 6 taps: yokohama bay brewing, Minoh, KBC, Oni Densetsu, Shonan Beer, etc.  8 taps but just 6 were on and they were fairly standard craft options. Beers are 700¥ for 250ml but all are 5-600¥ for 150ml, larger sizes were available but I don’t recall the price.“

“Nice enough place. Selection was a little boring on the day I visited, but have heard it is usually interesting. Maybe a touch more expensive than other places around it, but standing discount helps. Guess it’s not a must visit place, but if you have been to all the regular stops this would make a nice change. Beer served in three sizes so you can tick a few things if that’s your bag.“
