“Large space with a patio in a strip mall; garage decor with a nice HD behind the bar; good WiFi, flights available, close to 20 own beers on tap plus a guest cider and an ale; busy on Saturday for lunch - plenty of families with kids, bit understaffed with somewhat harried service; decent beer and food. Easily accessible by bus from downtown Bakersfield if you find yourself there without a car.“

“Love this place! Casual bottle shop with a great selection of bottles and non distributed beers on tap. Like soccer - best place to watch a game! Or any sport. Kids are welcome and we take ours all the time!“

“21 beers on tap plus cans and bottles. 6 tasters for $18 including tax. Pretty good. All of the beers are well made, but mostly easy drinking beers, little over the top bombs. Enormous seating area. Lots of parking. Open late. Convenient location.“

“Pretty short detour off of CA-99 (and not too far from Lengthwise if you want to hit the OG Bakersfield brewery).

It's a large warehouse space. It's probably miserable in the summer, but it was fine during my visit. They have a pretty big list of beers. It's mostly IPAs and sour beers (and most of those are heavily fruited). I ordered flight that considered of about half hoppy stuff and half sour stuff.

Other than the Double IPA, which I thought was good but not great, most of the other beers were pretty underwhelming. This was kind of a bummer as I'd been told by many people that these guys were making good stuff.

I'll give these guys another shot whenever I have time and I'm driving between LA and the Bay Area, but for now, I'm not sold.“

“Not sure why I hadn’t rated this before. Decent place with typical pub fare and a decent selection and quality of house brews. Service was adequate and prices middle of the road. Before Dionysus, this was a light in the dark in the wasteland known as Bakersfield.“

“Long bar with 8 ish house beers on. Decent stuff...a couple that I’d get again and several middle of the road. Lots of games/espn on. Quick service for a pretty busy place.“

“Wow. The incredible beers are the star here- only the IPAs were merely mortal- both the BA sour and BA imperial stout were fantastic. Lots of beer to choose from. Normal industrial park location, but it could be in a sewer and I would drink the beer all day.“

“Back alley warehouse location. I imagine they get packed but we got there shortly after opening on a weekday and it was half full. Good selection of solid to excellent beers, ok on the prices and service. Well behaved kid and dog friendly, no food.“

Imbibe Wine (Beer Store)
4140 TRUXTUN AVE
“You don’t find this bottle shop by coincidence. Why should tourists visit this industrial-like area? Because you can purchase craft beers here, both bottles and draught beer. Imbibe states that it’s the only place you can find a spirits bar inside a liquor store in California. Their "Rocks Spirits Bar" also has eight beers on tap that rotate weekly. There is also a wine bar and a patio. All beer bottles and cans are in fridges. Craft beer only and many small singles too. Nice! Service was excellent. Free shopping bag and 10% off if you fill the bag (6 bottles) (Visited July 8th 2016)“

“We arrived Bakersfield late in the afternoon after visiting Sequoia National Park. In Bakersfield we spent the evening in and around our hotel, Hampon Inn. Luckily, I knew there was a craft beer bar adjacent to the hotel. Bootleggers Craft Pub & Eatery is a full service restaurant offering American cuisine, craft beer and specialty bar drinks. Tv-screens everywhere and acceptable pop/rock music. I sat at the long bar counter where I could see the chalkboard showing beers on tap. Otherwise, no beer menu. Some bottles in the fridge, but not many. I asked for small pours or flights, but the female bartender said that they only served pints or 12 oz when ABV was 8% or more. When I somewhat dissatisfied sipped down a local IPA, I noticed a stack of wooden trays behind the bar. Another female bartender had just started her shift and she could confirm that they did flights. Hallelujah! 4 oz pours! I enjoyed beer from Telegraph, Lengtwise, Mad River, Figueroa, Barrel House, Modern Times and Heretic. It turned out to be a great stay. A must visit if you stay at a hotel nearby. I really don’t know why people add Cost Plus to this site. Why? Much like Trader Joes they have a core lineup at all the stores and none of it is refrigerated. They also tend to scatter things around the store. They do have one aisle of beer in the "wine cellar" section of the store and then there are some end caps scattered around the store with some beers on them. This particular store had a couple of things that I haven’t seen at other locations like Boulevard, Unita, and Alagash. Maybe there is hope for these guys but it’ll be a while before they even get to the level of Bevmo.“

This is more or less on the way from one of the new Lengthwise locations to another. It’s another Trader Joes, another subpar beer selection. I don’t know if they try or if they’re just getting old stock from distributors but some times they have a little more than the usual 20 beers (the house brands and Stone, Lagunitas, and Chimay) but what’s always true is that nothing is in the fridge. And in this case they just have the small basic lineup. You guys have Stone IPA, Lagunitas IPA, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, and Union Jack all sitting out. The upside is that it exposes the typical Trader Joes shopper to better beer, so there’s that, even if the IPAs are old. Over all, meh.“

“Visited September 7, 2014.

Not technically a brewpub since they truck in the beer from the original brewery a few miles down the way. They however have the full lineup available. First off, this is a pain in the ass to find if you follow your GPS. It will bring you in on Ming Ave and it will show that it’s right by the fountain in front of the movie theater. Save yourself 20 minutes of wandering around aimlessly and drive around the back of the Vons. You will find another parking lot back there and a building that is unmarked from the movie theater side (might have a sign on the north side of the building, I didn’t notice).

Once you find your way inside you’ll see a bar that wraps around the one side with a fridge full of 22oz bottles. On the other end of the bar there is a soda fountain. Naturally there are some tables too. I showed up during the Niner/Cowboy game. It was ugly (in a good way) and at the time it was 28-3, SF. They offer tasters, pints, and growlers of everything. I had a pint of the Citra Simcoe IPA and tasters of the Zues and the Double Cent. Kind of interesting that they have three double IPAs on right now.

Subtotal was $5 for a pint and two more ticks. Not bad. Service was friendly and I like how they have an area where you can walk up to the bar and order a beer without having to lean over the people at the bar. This is the furthest from the free of the three locations so I probably wont be back but I will stop at the old brewery the next time I pass through town.“

Not technically a brewpub since they truck in the beer from the original brewery a few miles down the way. There are a couple of things that separate this from the other locations. First off, when you enter the parking lot you’ll see a sign that advertises "pre-workouts". Pretty awesome. Also, they have an old motorcycle up on the wall behind the bar. I’m not sure what changed since the last couple people stopped in here but they certainly had more than 4 or 5 beers available. Lastly they have two separate bars: one for ordering drinks/food and the other one for sitting at.

I asked if I could buy some of the spices. I bought some of the chipotle rub years ago at the brewery and loved it. Didn’t care much for the smoked salt and of course that was the one they had. Oh well. I also learned that these guys roast their own coffee beans and sell them by the pound. I bought a pound of the lighter roast of the two (I’m told medium) as a gift for the parents for $9. No word yet from them on if it’s any good or not.

Service was friendly and I enjoyed hanging out with the locals and talking about music. Also of note was the fact that they have three double IPAs on tap right now: Ale Yeah, Double Cent, and Zeus.“

“This place sucks, the people and service there are terrible, they have a pretty decent selection but they don’t get anything out of the ordinary here in Bakersfield. I was looking for a FW Parabola, they had one, asked how much it was and they are wanting $24.99 for it!! I asked the guy working why it was so expensive and all he had to say for it is that’s are price. I told him that FW publicly releases a national suggested retail value for ALL of their vintage series at $16.99 a bottle, he had nothing to say for it and I even told him that I was a loyal customer there for almost two years now and he still didn’t care, never getting my business again or any business from any one I know, they are absolutely horrible to their customers! Stay away from this place!“

“Given the reviews I was expecting a lot more, but I guess craft beer is hard to come by in the central valley. A row of coolers, about three of which were devoted to a mix of bombers and six packs. Can buy individual bottles out of the packs. Some interesting stuff - Abyss was still in stock, and they had a couple of Kern bottles, but overall the standard craft fare from Cali, the US, and a bit of Germany and Belgium. Two rows of unrefrigerated stuff too, more of the same, kind of haphazardly displayed, with nothing out of the ordinary. Prices seemed a bit high as well.“

“Large interior here, sort of a warehouse feel, much like the brewery location. There is a long bar to order or sit at, plenty of TVs, and their typical 6-7 house beers. Service was quick and friendly. Ordered a glass of the Zeus (double IPA), which was decent (which is kind of the high end for their beers). Worth a stop if you’re in the area or in need of a beer in the wasteland that is the San Joaquin Valley, and Bakersfield in particular.“

“Fairly generic brewpub. Selection was quite limited, with only 4 or 5 standard, year-round beers and a single special beer on draft. More drafts are dedicated to BMC than their own craft. The beers were all fairly generic, besides the seasonal single hop IIPA which was excellent. Food is dull; expect generic bar fare.“

“Nice local pub; beers are brewed at the brewery. Menu has great pub food; I love the tri-tip sandwich and the stinky fries. Friendly staff; the actually have brewed three new beers since opening this new pub. I missed the first two, but had the Irish Red on this visit. They had not brewed any new beers in almost 10 years before this just the same old ones. Progress is good.“

Imbibe Wine (Beer Store)
4140 TRUXTUN AVE
“(Visited 01/2011): Imbibe is in Bakersfield west of downtown off the Blue Star Memorial Highway on Truxton. The place is actually a little tough to find and we passed it before realizing you have to circle around behind the buildings that are on the street. Parking is plentiful all around the building. The interior is laid out with a sort of bar area immediately on the left that has a few beer taps. The bottled stuff is in coolers further back. Draught beer and bottles can both be consumed on site which is always nice. There is a corkage fee to drink the beers there but they didn’t seem overly eager to enforce it. The rest of the store is pretty much devoted to wine, and they have some "pay by the ounce’ options available. As for the beers, they carry goodies from Port, The Bruery, Rogue, Oskar Blues, Hair Of The Dog, Deschutes and many more. Service was friendly on a weekday early afternoon. Despite the place obviously leaning toward wine shoppers, the staff was more than happy to help us with pouring and purchasing beers. Overall this is my kind of shop, and definitely one of if not the best places to buy beer in the Bakersfield/Tehachapi area.“

“I’m adding American Liquor and Deli. They have a decent selection of crafts and imports (mainly English and Belgian, a few German) They also carry a few locals. Many beers come in singles in a cooler as well as 6-packs. The owner/manager told me he does special orders at no extra charge. Service was satisfactory. I did not try the deli as I was looking only for beer, so I didn’t add it into my rating. Overall I feel this is one of the better selections in Bakersfield for craft beer.“

“(Visited 10/2008): Country Club Liquors is located in a strip mall parking lot on Columbus Street not too far from 178. There is plenty of parking all around the building. The interior is a hybrid convenience store and deli. The beer is located mostly in coolers along the back wall, plus some on shelves at room temperature. They have a small collection of glassware near the register as well. Country Club has a pretty good selection of California beers, a lot of them in bombers. Brewers like Mammoth, Stone, Lengthwise, Firestone and others are represented. Some imports are available as well. Service here was more on the convenience store side. The attendant was friendly but didn’t really ask how we were doing or if he could help with anything. This place is not listed as a restaurant but some of the deli items looked pretty good. Overall this is probably the best place I have seen in Bakersfield for craft beer. While not a huge selection there is bound to be something to interest a beer lover.“

“I love Trader Joes but their beer selection is pretty sad. Hop Ottin , Chimay, and Franzikaner are here. Once and awhile they have some Unibroue taster packs that are awesome. None of their beers are chilled. Good prices on the beer they do have though.“

“I really cant say anything good about this place. The inventory looks as bad as the outside of the building which is old, fading and dusty. A 6pk of Moosehead had floaters in it! “I have to further disagree. Our trip found a mediocre selection that was in disarray. A few items on the shelves from brewers that I know went out of business over the last few years. A better selection can be found across the street at their competitors and that’s not saying much! Without being overly-critical, the staff seemed nice but uninformed when I inquired about the Stone 09.09.09. Unfortunately, the food only consists of snacks, chips. etc.. I will make another stop here next time to see if there is any improvement.“

“Where is the beer?? A very small selection that differed from some of the other stores in Bakersfield. I found out that they drive up some beers from the LA area (hopefully not in this heat) that are not available from their local distributors. Unfortunately we found the staff to be snooty and unhelpful, focused more on selling wine than beer. It is a pretty new store but the attitude will more than likely keep us from returning.“

“Unfortunately, I was not very impressed with their current selection which consisted of only a few jewels amongst common fare. The clerk touted the Stone 09 Epic Ale but had zero knowledge about the fact that this brew is meant to be laid down and bottle conditioned for quite some time. We found that a bottle of Abita had floaters in it and was extremely old and skunky...what a disappointment. The food consisted of only light snacks and we were referred to the Subway next door for sandwiches. Hopefully our next trip to this store will result in a better review.“
