“Visited here on a Sunday afternoon with Tony, grand old building (former bank) on the corner that has been converted nicely into a taproom which I understand will become a full brewpub in time. Was fairly busy on visiting but service was quick and got a few beers across both cask and keg (they do various sizes including 1/3rds) - later also shared some cans from the fridge for drink in. Friendly knowledgeable staff, decent craft prices and bonus points for being a UT verified venue, and will like to return when the onsite brewery is up and running. Recommended“

“Huge space in an old bank or something at Blackheath. Great tap list of interesting stuff including a few internationals. Had Tilquin on tap when I dropped by. Most offerings of the IPA and DIPA variety and some nice sours too. Clientale on a Sunday was local and older, so not so much craft beer hipsters.“

“As a regular at this shop (living nearby is a little dangerous to the wallet), I am often pleasantly surprised by this shop. However, upon a visit today, felt the need to give back for the truly wonderful service and ambiance the place provides for a hipster-beer shopper such as myself! The visit in question led to a fantastic conversation between a member of staff, myself and my partner, and we left with lovely beers and a bit more of a spring in our step. I hope this place keeps being awesome well into the future, it is a must visit for beer lovers in (or passing through) Blackheath!“

“Great initiative from Oddbins to open a dedicated beer shop and I can see more off these opening up across London in time. Visited in August 2015 on holiday back in London, and is very well located and easy to find a few steps away from Blackheath Train Station. Very comprehensive amount of bottles packed in, with the best London/UK has to offer, some good European/Nordic offerings along with some great US rarities on our visit. Staff are knowledgeable and helpful and interesting to see that they now have 4 draught beers since last visit, will be sure to visit on next trip back. This place is a must visit for Ratebeerians visiting the area and even to seek it out for the selection alone, plus they also host various meet the brewer events and tastings. Well worth combining this place in with a visit on the way to the nearby excellent Hare and Billet.“

“2015-09-25. A relatively short walk from the Royal Observatory that felt longer while hungry! Interior feels a bit more upscale, or trying to be at least, than many of the pubs we have been frequenting in London. It has a traditional but polished renovation feel to it. Server was friendly, decent selection of casks and taps, and a tasty upscale food menu. Most of our group opted for the fish and chips , while I had the quail. The fish was very good but simple. The quail was delicious and well prepared, but possibly more work than it was worth for the small amount of meat - the quail’s fault, not the chefs! The rest of the menu looked very tasty as well, prices are higher for the fancier options. We opted for beers from Thornbridge, Salopian, Bristol Beer Factory and Tiny Rebel today. Not necessarily impressive enough to warrant a trip on it’s own but definitely recommended for a meal and a pint if in the area.“

“Really like it here, lots of choice on the hand pumps and keg lines. Though the bottle range is small and a bit boring. My only gripe would be the price of some of the keg lines on the back wall. But i guess that is par for the course now. The hand pulled beers are good value though!“

“Just visited again having been away from the area for a few years. Used to go here a lot and drink with the old brewer, it has changed for the worst. Beers all taste the same somehow. wouldn’t recommend anymore.“

“Update: Oh dear. This place has totally changed to what I remember having revisited on our last visit back earlier this year. It has been extensively renovated and changed to be more of a restaurant. Gone is the large selection of beers and specials and happy hour (now only 4 on tap) - gone is the days of casually grabbing a pizza and beer and watching the big screen football (now its a full on dining focused affair, and no TV) - its just turned into another typical Blackheath restaurant, plus the beers were no way as good as we remembered. Real shame. Skip this if in the area and visit the brilliant nearby Hare & Billett. - Old review 25/12/2012 - Very local to me, have been coming here for approx 5 years now. Overall really like the place, good place to meet up with mates to watch the football while having one of their regular or special ales (especially in happy hour between 16:00-19:00 week days). Foodwise can vouch for the great wood-fire oven pizzas from here. 3/7/14/9/9/16 (80)“

“A place to go if you are walking near there. In the top of the hill you can taste their beers, that are not the best, but acceptable, and taste the mussels they serve....specially good the green curry ones. Service could be better.“

“Specialist beer shop enterprise by Oddbins which has opened up opposite the regular store. Big UK selection and some old friends from Europe, the USA and beyond. Exceedingly handy it’s only 20 mins walk away too! UPDATE 13/11//15: 4 draught beers now available to take out either in cheap plastic containers (50p-£1) or 1/2 litre glass growlers (£3/£6).“

“Way too typical. Don’t go unless you are real enthusiast. Everything is watered down.“

“Nice brewpub. Really more of a restaurant than a pub. Had about 5 different own brews on tap. The Black Lager was quite decent and so was the Christmas Ale.“

“Brewpub that manages to look ultra modern by utilising the brewing apparatus and designing around it to give a sense of drinking and dining within the factory. The self-produced ales are important of course but dining is also given a prominence here. The main area is set slightly inside the building, although there is a small area out front where people can sit, however it doesn’t quite offer views across the heath which it is very close to. There’s a disparity between the cost of a half pint and a pint meaning it is cheaper to purchase a pint if you intend to have more than one half.“

“First of all big thanks to Reuben (Desverger) for drawing my attention to this place. This once was a bit of a beer Mecca back in the 90s as a Hogshead. Since the demise of that chain the choice had been quite average (Fullers, Youngs, Adnams) and quality wasn’t always up to scratch. To be honest I thought that Greene King’s grasping paws might get hold of it and destroy it’s character. Luckily enough this hasn’t happened and the pub has been sensitively transformed into a rather pleasant drinking establishment with sacks of choice on the pumps and some interesting craft kegs. Nice ambiance, friendly staff and well kept beer. Could quite easily become the best pub in Blackheath. Very impressed with the changes and without a doubt this will be my first port of call whenever I’m next in Blackheath.“

“22/02/2013: Has recently reopened following a refurbishment and the changes include a great new selection of diverse cask ales as well as guest kegs. There are 10 cask pulls, 4 guest kegs as well as 8 other lager/cider taps. On recent visit Dark Star featured heavily, and also included The Kernel, London Fields, Gadds, Adnams, and others. Staff were knowledgeable, helpful and attentive. Prices range from the expected for cask in centralish London, but the guest kegs/bottles are pretty pricey. Overall a good rebirth/welcome addition to Blackheath, and well worth checking out if you are in the area. 4/5 8/10 13/15 N/A 7/10 15/20 Update:28/08/2014 - This place gets better with each visit, always something new each time, great diverse and mostly pretty rare hard to find brews - place rating updated. 4/5 9/10 13/15 N/A 8/10 17/20“

“A really nice setup, and if this place was a bit more central I’m sure I would come here often. It’s a big, airy joint with the feel of an industrial plant of some sort, what with all the silvery, gleaming brewing equipment that stretches about two storeys high. The bar is all steel and looks pretty sleek. They have five house beers on keg - four regulars and one special. I think all their beers are pretty decent; nothing outrageously good, but nothing I wouldn’t mind drinking by the pint. Prices are fair. The staff is really friendly and helpful, which was great to see. I definitely recommend a visit to this place.“

“Mini-chain (3 other locations). Interior is awesome, service was excellent on my visit. Unfortunately, house beers are rather bland and/or unpleasant. I have the feeling they try to appeal to the fizzy-yellow beer drinkers and bring them to appreciate a wider range of "colours" and tastes. Noble mission, but I pass my turn.“

“Visited on a busy Saturday night and tried each of the house brews. I noticed that most patrons were more intent drinking wine and mixers rather than the beers, so that kinda sums it up. I’ve heard good things about the food here but we didn’t get a chance to sit down for dinner. The venue lacks charm, and the bar area is too clutted to be able to relax. Revisit May ’11 - The beer range was a nice surprise with a seasonal Weizen Bock that was tasty as well as a crackin’ APA. Pizza’s were well made and was a pleasant lunch during a quiet weekday.“

“Lots of hard surfaces make it rather cold and very noisy as it fills up. Nice to see a London brewpub attracting a young crowd though.“

“A bit of a train drive and walk outside of central London, well worth the trip. Modern, metallic and sports tv equipped interior. Came here late afternoon at the place was almost empty. Server/floormanager was quite alert and was quick with both menu and beers. I had a pepperoni pizza, which was decent. Solid beers.“

“A disappointing, soulless, monstrosity. The steel and glass interior is cold and unwelcoming. The beer selection and quality is average at best. Cheesy 70’s music and flat screen TV’s seem to keep the the chav clientèle distracted from the true banality of this bar. If you are in the Blackheath area then check out The Railway or The Princess of Wales instead.“

“The facade of the building is in keeping with its surroundings, with a fenced off pavement terrace set aside for drinkers. Inside it’s big, loud and brash. Gleaming steel is everywhere, from the brewing vessels to the gargantuan bar where the fresh beer brewed a few feet away is dispensed direct from the tanks under air pressure. There’s an open kitchen (the food looked great but we didn’t eat) with an attached dining area, and a lairy back bar with a mezzanine level where the sport blares out on big screens. There are four regular beers, all available on our visit together with a special. ZeroDegrees is definitely worth a visit, particularly if you can sit outside on a sunny day. Pints are keenly priced at £2.50.“

“When I visited it was very smoky inside, from the wood fired pizza oven, but it had the benefit that the cigaret smoke from the next table didn’t bother me - though it can’t be healthy. Decorated like a warehouse with aluminum cealing, stone floor, steel staricases, and with the brewery centraly places behind the bar. I find the interior kind of run down - but a place that wants to be hip - and maybe is at night, I visited in the late afternoon. The service was nice and friendly, but slow. The food was OK, though not very exciting, and quite pricy. 5 of their own beers on tap - and the best thing is the £1 offering for a ½ pint in happy hour 4-7 pm.“
