Bottle at home. Pours amber, nose is sweet toffee and pine, taste is sweet malty toffee, bitter.

Bottle brought from Chicago- pours hazy, dark reddish brown, khaki small head. Lots of chewy toffee and caramel malt nose, woody and herbal, dark fruits. Chewy palate, rich malts, dark berries and some herbal hop bitterness with the Nogne yeast characteristics powering through. Renaissance Scotch Ale really balances this gem out. Bottle pour. Dark brown, almost purple. Thin head. Distinct nose. Kvass, soda bread and spicy hops. Dry taste. Plums, herbal spices and lots of malts.

Color rojizo oscuro con espuma color crema. Aromas de caramelo, tofe, ligero café. Densidad media-alta, dulce y achocolatada con un claro sabor de caramelo. El final (y el resgusto) es seco y tostado. Muy rica.

500ml bottle. Ruby red glowing, dark brown colour with late awakening, average to huge, thick, frothy, fully lasting, moderately lacing, off-white to beige head. Malty aroma delivers a toffee-chocolate-caramel-nut-mixture, hoppy overtones, hints of blueberry and other red and dark berries. Taste is a moderately sweet and bitter, complex crossing of malt and hop flavours, making it hard to differentiate between pure notes and mixed effects: toffee, nuts, coffee, caramel, chocolate, plum, dark berries, peppermint. Not fully harmonic, but exhibiting an intricacy of flavours that could keep busy a whole detective agency. Some beers make you instantaneously burst out: Awesome! This keeps you in a state of meditativeness maybe for hours after having it finished - and you’ll equally sigh: Awesome! But in this case not in explosive enthusiasm, rather in a mood of deeply relaxed satisfaction.

Bottle, 14/03/14. Pours a very dark reddish brown with a decent, beige-colored head. Aroma is very chocolatey, dark malts and dark fruits. Chocolate - or rather cocoa - dominates, light liquorice. Taste is chocolatey (but not so much as in teh aroma), some dark fruit and dark malts. A light touch of coffee and liquorice. No roastiness. Quite full with not that much carbonation. Definitely a different kind of strong ale, but a good one really. Not too sweet definitely.

Shared bottle at the Pre-Brugge beer festival bottle swap organised by Filip of the Belgian Beer Board website: thanks whoever brought this. My sample was fairly large (cos I’m a greedy git) and I wanted to do the beer justice by having enough to judge it by. Others may have missed out, but I only had about one third of the selection at the swap , well only 22 different beers anyway. This poured a nice dark brown colour and an off-white head of foam. The aroma was a rich blend of maltiness mixed with spicy hop notes and a basket of citrus fruit. It had a wondrous taste: those malts in the smell lead the way in the mouth too, semi-sweet caramel, other malty molasses type tastes and a calming undertone of a woody, hop like feel. A very pleasant beer indeed. Full bodied and worth missing a few other beers for. Glad I grabbed some and took the time to take notes, it was difficult though as the bottles came along a bit swiftly at times and I missed some excellent brews because of my note taking.

Hoppy and leather malt aroma and taste. Bitter finish, grainy, butter, triple, raisins.

A very dark brown beer with a quite weak and beige head. The nose of aromatic hops, rainy pine forest, some exotic wood, caramell malts and some fruit cake. Taste of wood, some pine, hint of tobacco, the bitterness is smooth and slow, but stays nicely in the mouth. Toffeeish malts that is nicely balanced with bitterness, even this is not a hop bomb. Overally, quite dry. Medium+ bodied, smooth carbonation, easy to drink even this strong. Quite nice, but I expected more tropical nuancees, as this more like Europian style of hoppyness. Good balance between the sweetness and bitterness.

Pours dark cobber with beige head. Aroma is roasted caramel and hoppy citrus and grapefruit. Flavour is sweet, with a little roasted malt character. Some hoppy character and bitterness, hopcharacter has notes of citrus, peach and grapefruit.
