COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Luke Nicholas started his brewing career at Steam Brewing Company in 1997. In 1999 he won Supreme Champion Beer for Cock & Bull’s Monk’s Habit. In 2006 he won Supreme Champion Beer for Epic Pale Ale. This beer highlights the multi award winning relationship between Luke and Steam Brewing. Together this beer was created to celebrate 10 years of Epic and 1000 brews at Steam, using 5 different yeasts that have been instrumental in the making of award winning beers at the brewery. Surprisingly this beer isn’t massively hoppy. It is big and malty, in an English style Barley wine way. This beer should age for at least 10 years.
EBC (SRM): 90
HOPS: East Kent Goldings, Fuggles, Pacific Jade, Wai-iti

Maris (3438) - Canberra, AUSTRALIA - MAY 1, 2018
UPDATED: MAY 1, 2018 From a 500ml bottle is on 1/5/2018. Pours a deep cloudy amber with almost no head. Has quite a strong aroma of caramel and stewed fruit. Massively sweet in the mouth - oodles of caramel, butterscotch, toffee, honey and ripe and dried fruit. Even a hint of milk chocolate. There is a decent bitterness at the back but the sweetness certainly prevails. The palate is sticky and syrupy, with softish carbonation. This is the sweetest barley wine I’ve ever had, but with a very sweet tooth, I can happily live with that. It may not be for everyone, but it’s a mightily impressive malty dessert treat.

Jado (805) - Camp Hill, AUSTRALIA - OCT 3, 2017
UPDATED: OCT 3, 2017 Deep red-amber body. Thin off-white head dissipates almost completely. Aromas of plum, bourbon, raisin and toffee. Taste is sweet toffee at first, cut through by dark fruit, raisins, rum, vanilla and bourbon. Full mouth feel. Bit of residual sweetness and some alcohol at the end. Rich and satisfying - great.

500ml bottle pours a deep cherry colour with tiny light tan head. The wax head a double layer of wrapping paper creates an added sense of occasion. Aromas of toffee, malt, bourbon and spice. Viscous texture with not too much carbonation. Tastes of toffee, honey, sugar syrup, stone fruit, bourbon and herbal characters. Finishes with strong Aperol-like herbal bitterness and some residual alcohol.

Bottle - Toffee and some leafy hop notes. Clear amber. Nice caramel notes and sweetness with the hops firmly in the background. This is a great, rich and sweet barley wine that is good to drink fresh.

10.1%ABV. Barleywine. Poured out deep amber brown. 23ºSRM. Nose is sweet, spicy and christmas. Treacle. Praline pecans from the south. Pecan pie. Mouthfeel is syrupy. Palate has caramel, hint of butterscotch, creme brûlée, taffy. Sweet fruit with dates, honey, black plums. Overall tasting note is that of sticky date pudding. Finish is woody, bitter and a little syrupy cling. Overall perfect as a desert wine. Goes on Favorites List!
