George999 (691) - Colorado, USA - AUG 29, 2021
UPDATED: AUG 29, 2021 Aroma: Initially strong notes of chocolate and a ticket of coffee and a hint of alcohol like scotch or whiskey. The malts are pronounced with a full aroma of toasted bread. Appearance: Dark auburn color with lots of red hues and a tan head covering the body of the beer completely and consisting of small to medium bubbles. Head is well retained with good head lacing. Flavor: Chocolate is the first primary flavor, with coffee and a noticable but not distracting flavor of whiskey. A bit a Carmel is noted towards the back of the throat. Finish is sweet but dry with lingering flavors of roasted grains and a very low hint of smoke. Balance is malty. The hops are bright, but not pronounced, but they lift the beer making it very enjoyable to drink. Mouthfeel: Medium body, high carbonation, minor astringency from the grains, a moderate to low alcohol warmth noted. Impression is not creamy due to the level of carbonation. Overall: I am enjoying this beer, the flavor is full chocolate with a touch of whiskey towards the back of the throat. The only detraction from this beer is the dryness, but overall still a great beer and worth trying.

Kleg (3012) - The Beach, Florida, USA - AUG 19, 2019
UPDATED: AUG 19, 2019 12 oz. can purchased at Specs in Austin, TX. Pours a clear mahogany color with a small but tight khaki head and good retention. Light lacing. Light caramel aroma. Toasted caramel flavor, almost burnt. Clean and smooth. The 7.0 ABV is well hidden. Lacks the smoky flavor I like in my Scottish ales but still pretty good. Medium body/mouthfeel.

nearbeer (8333) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - FEB 1, 2019
UPDATED: FEB 1, 2019 12 ounce looks like it was canned sometime in 2018 and indicates 7.0% abv. Chestnut brown body is mostly clear and has some bubbly action supporting a spongy disc of foam. Aroma is dark toast and coffee; not awful, but not really what I expected from a Scottish Ale. Flavors start the same but end up turning to the malty caramel and the touch of earthy peat that I was seeking. Medium mouthfeel has smooth low-medium carbonation and a good balance.

superspak (9599) - Greensboro, North Carolina, USA - MAR 29, 2018
Got in a trade with The-Adjunct-Hippie. 12 ounce can into tulip glass, best before 4/1/2018. Pours slightly hazy dark ruby red/brown color with a 1 finger fairly dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big caramel, brown sugar, brown bread crust, toasted biscuit, and nuttiness; with lighter notes of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, smoke, molasses, raisin, plum, cherry, fig, leather, herbal, pepper, and roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt and light earthy hop/fruity yeast notes; with great strength. Taste of big caramel, brown sugar, brown bread crust, toasted biscuit, and nuttiness; with lighter notes of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, smoke, molasses, raisin, plum, cherry, fig, leather, herbal, pepper, and roast/toasted earthiness. Light herbal/grassy/spicy hop and roast bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, brown bread crust, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, chocolate, cocoa, coffee, smoke, light dark fruit/pepper, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; with a great roast/hop bitter/sweet balance, and zero cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering hop/roast bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/grainy, and lightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that in great. Minimal warming alcohol for 7%. Overall this is an awesome Scotch ale! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the mild bitter/drying finish. Impressively rich English malt complexity for the ABV; very well restrained fruity yeast, and solid earthy hop balance against sweetness. A really enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.
