UK refuses to recognise Independence. Gibraltar may come into negotiation here?
In that case, who's up for merging the US with England?
That's the way it was but the US decided to go their own way.

Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are listed separately on ratebeer... that's forward planning
If you follow that reasoning through, you missed out England

We have a policy foe this. If Catalonia gets universally recognized we will take immediate action, as done with South Sudan and after the re-structuring of Netherlands Antilles. If it becomes de facto independent, but not widely recognized we will put it on hold. If the situation is maintained over several years, and it becomes apparently separated from Spain from a travellers point of view, we May list it based on our rules for inclusion of disputed territories, similar to for instance Western Sahara and Abkhazia. At this point they may be transitioning into the freezing box together with Crimea and Novorossija / Donetsk. Gibraltar has nothing do with this discussion. They are included based on being considered a geographically separated dependency, same as French Guiana, Guam etc.) (As we already separate UK this would probably cause headache anyway...)

I am not talking about Gibraltor in regards to Ratebeer, but I imagine it will be used as a bargaining tool by the UK government in relation to Catalonias independence.

That’s a bizarre comparison; this situation is much closer to Kosovo.

No. Kosovo has wide recognition.
Catalonia still has not. Should that change, we act.
We just draw the map, based from a thirsty travellers perspective.
On a personal plane, I am just hoping for a peaceful resolution whatever the outcome, and am much looking forward to a future visit to the the famous beer bars in Barcelona.

Of course, Kosovo, as far as I know, has the recognition of the States and the most important countries from European Union.
The main authorities around the world don't support Catalonian independence... up to now...

Kosovo does not have wide recognition (57% of UN member states and enough countries in the European Union to prevent them from becoming a member in the foreseeable future) and would require a generation’s-worth of political and societal change (in Serbia) to get there.
But I’m glad that RB’s approach to adding new countries is basically the same as Wikitravel’s. If it results in a visible change in entry procedures, then it should be a new territory on the map (and as with any other Declaration of Independence, these things take time; as of now, there are no border controls that would suggest that you are entering a non-Schengen territory under the jurisdiction of a state that is not Spain). That’s why Crimea and Novorossiya are in their own category, as no other territories like them really exist.
