“Slightly out of the center, start of a bit more residential area, located on a corner. Green and white on the outside. Classic pub in the first half with a great mix of people. Live shows on accessional as well and memorabilia on the wall. Beer selection is the most interesting one in the center probably, yes there is still a fair amount of macro but two Kinnegard on tap, one cask beer from Lacada, Rascals and quite a sizzle bottle and can menu from Boundary, Kinnegard, Lacada, Magic Rock etc. One would be pressed to find better in the center. Even more there is a beer garden in the back which was totally packed when we visited with wood oven pizza available with the oven clearly present. One of the bartenders had a Bathory hoodie. Just lovely.“

“Small front room and what looked like a fairly large beer garden round back. Pretty limited selection on tap (unless you want macro) but a decent bottle/can list and mulled cider available during our visit. Advertises frequent live music and pizzas were available from 5pm.“

“They open at 17:00 and by 17:20 people were dancing on the tables on the back patio. The front room is quieter, just two or three barstools and some low pub tables with benches. Everyone was friendly, staff and clientele. Music and other events nearly every night ensure that the place is lively pretty much all the time. The cage around the front door speaks to an even livelier past, for different reasons of course. Draft beer selection isn't very exciting, and people were mainly drinking Grolsch or Beamish (they do NOT serve Guinness). Bottle list is much more interesting with a smattering of beers from north and south as well as a handful of Belgian classics; staff and customers are happy to provide recommendations, and there is a mostly up to date bottle list on a clipboard hanging on the side of the bar. Homemade soup, and pizza at the weekends. A great first stop in Belfast.“

“Stopped and at first wasn’t impressed. Dive interior. Does have the gated front from the troubles which is interesting. However servers quite friendly in non intrusive way. Draft list is small but big can and bottle list of fresh stuff which seems to be a thing here in Belfast. Didn’t rate since planning on heading back for music Thursday but not got other plans so here we are. Told my work mates I went they were like “what the place with cage?”“

“Medium sized place on borders of central Belfast. Lots of graffiti in the surrounding streets and odd looking cage at the entrance. It was almost empty in the afternoon, I imagine there way more people in the evening since they have live music. 8 taps, couple of interesting ones I haven't seen around. They had a bottle of Anarres impy for 12,50. One shouldn't expect too much, but for me it was worth stopping by.“

“Chilled pub in the city centre, still sporting the protective cage from the days of the troubles, retro chic I suspect. Beer range quite decent for Belfast, my pint of Krombacher was eagerly drank. Worth venturing into.“

“Visited earlier this month. Location: looks like the outskirts of town. If it hadn’t been recommended to me I would probably never looked for it nor entered the place if I had accidently ran into it with it’s weird cage at the front door that looks a bit like you’re stepping into a bird cage. Typical old wooden interior and every spot on the walls and ceiling is hung with decorations. Solid selection on tap and bottle. Might be a little weird, but it’s worth a visit.“

“Wow! This is a great place! Good selection of local brew and really great atmosphere. Great live music and rather cozy and warm atmosphere. Just popped in for a beer after checking out Hudson nearby, but it was hard to leave this place so we stayed for quite some time. Certainly worth a visit, great place and great house beer (as mentioned in the previous review)“

“Slightly off the beaten track and a few yards on from the Hudson, the Sunflower sits proudly defiant on a street otherwise marked for demolition. Still sporting its "cage" on the door from the days of the troubles now a talking point. Longbar on your left as you walk through the door with a smaller "events" bar upstairs. Usually at least one real ale on cask and a few guest kegs and some less common macros. The bottle selection is pretty decent with a house beer brewed by Kinnegar (worth the trip alone). Excellent pizzas cooked in woodfired oven on patio most weekend evenings.“
