82 /100 Old Bookshop (Restaurant) 63 NORTH STREET Decent venue with lots of nook & crannies, interesting selection of beers on cask, keg and in bottle. Worth a visit for sure! |
82 /100 Alpha Bottle Shop & Tap (Beer Store) UNIT 1 IMPERIAL ARCADE, EAST STREET New-ish bottleshop in Bedminster, opened in Spring 2021. Mainly a bottle-shop, with an all refrigerated selection of cans & bottles, they also have 4 keg lines pouring. Nice place with friendly service. They sell online also |
66 /100 Steam Crane (Bar) 4-6 NORTH STREET Old style, single room traditional pub. Reasonable range of mostly local cask & keg beer and cider |
72 /100 Corks of North Street (Beer Store) 79 NORTH STREET Bottleshop in Bedminster offering beer, wine & cider. Pretty reasonable selection from both local breweries and those further afield. Sister shop to Corks of Cotham, although each stocks different beers to an extent |
64 /100 Steam Crane (Bar) 4-6 NORTH STREET Quite a large old style pub building on the North Street run, there has been some sort of paint job on the outside which makes it seem quite scruffy. Comfortable and welcoming inside with a reasonable range on cask hand pull. Makes for a good day when doing North Street. |
74 /100 Old Bookshop (Restaurant) 63 NORTH STREET What to make of this place? It is a sister establishment to The Old Butcher's, 2 doors away, owned by the same family, this is the foodie part of the block, the other shop is a vinyl record store in between the Bookshop and Butchers. It is small and intimate with lots of nooks and crannies all filled with tables and diners. They are happy to have just drinkers in and the best spot is in the crazily furnished patio area, it is seen to be believed. The beer selection is kept deliberately different from the Butcher's, or so I was informed. The prices are remarkably low and the Sunday Dinners are sought after by the looks, booking is advisable. All in all a really decent place to visit. |
80 /100 Steam Crane (Bar) 4-6 NORTH STREET Really like it here. Good rotation, ace food and various board games. Needs more live music nights! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for Android |
60 /100 Corks of North Street (Beer Store) 79 NORTH STREET Good to have on North Street. Not much rotation but reasonable selection. Staff often seem a bit distracted... ---Rated via Beer Buddy for Android |
78 /100 Steam Crane (Bar) 4-6 NORTH STREET Visited on a Sunday afternoon in August 2015. Chanced upon this place in deepest Bedminster and decided to check it out for a beer. Glad we did. Very much in with the modern beer bar with sofas plus the more normal chairs and tables, good background music and a large outdoor area. Beer range was excellent with a good selection of Cask and Keg beers on. Staff were friendly and CAMRA discount available (10% I think!).
Really nice place and one of the best we visited in Bristol |
64 /100 Coronation (Bar) 18 DEAN LANE To answer the point Fin raised, this was a Hopback pub until about 4 or 5 years ago when they gave it up rather than accept a rent increase. A shame, as it was my favourite pub in this part of Bristol. However, it remains a busy pub, offering a standard range of beers at good prices. |
70 /100 Coronation (Bar) 18 DEAN LANE We visited here on Thursday 1st January 2015 following a walk from the campsite past the Tobacco Factory (Bristol Beer Factory) which appeared closed today and past others in this area such as The Hare which was also closed. This pub sits on a corner on a road that is heading back towards the River Avon and centre of town. It (appears to be) a Hopback Brewery pub, the sign is still there and it still sells Summer Lightning, but reading up on it since I am not 100% certain, so the jury is out on that front. It really is a very welcoming down to earth place. We had Isobels dog Berry with us and the landlord and landlady said that they loved dogs and were more than happy for her to come in. Btw the landlord and landlady were great, very friendly and instantly made you feel welcome, they were relatively young and reminded me of the sort of people who would have done a lot of festivals over the years and followed bands like The Levellers, ’anyway Fin stop rambling’, back onto the pub. The pub is a single bar long oblong shape it is relatively narrow but opens out a little either side of the bar which is straight in front of you as you enter. I recall five handpumps but only four had pumpclips on with Hopback Summer Lightning, Butcombe Bitter amongst those on offer, Loz and I opted for a half of the former, it was nice to re-visit a long forgotten old favourite beer and it was a jolly pleasant. The pub was quite busy with a mixture of people and ages, though mostly locals by the looks of things. My only real criticism and the one thing that (nearly) always makes us avoid pubs is large screen TV’s, there were a couple in here though the volume was down to almost inaudible levels and they were not too intrusive, though as no one appeared to be watching them it did make me think why bother? Considering that this would probably have passed us by if one of Bristol Beer Factory, Brewdog, Three Tuns or King Street pubs had been opened it was a nice place to visit and I shall definitely re-visit. A decent proper old boozer, unlikely to find any weird or wonderful beers, but you are likely to find a very warm welcome and a decent pint of something that you’ve had before. |
60 /100 Steam Crane (Bar) 4-6 NORTH STREET Newly refurbished pub that offers a wide range of quality beers on both cask and keg, plus high quality food. Is rumoured to be intending to brew at some point in the future. Worth a visit if passing by. |
74 /100 Corks of North Street (Beer Store) 79 NORTH STREET Newly opened sister shop to the long established Corks of Cotham. Beer wise, what’s on offer is very similar to the other shop - an excellent selection from local breweries such as Arbor, Ashley Down, Cheddar and Wiper & True, plus a good selection of other UK beers from the likes of Buxton, Tiny Rebel, Pressure Drop and Kernel. International beer includes the Rochefort Trappists, Orval, Founders, and a couple of De Molens. Also does cider and a smaller range of wines than the parent shop. A great addition to south Bristol. |
