“Pub way outside of Cambridge city centre. I came out especially for this pub, as I heard it was good. Well. It’s okay. Modern (read: renovated to hell and back) layout, local crowd although I imagine a fair few students live nearby. Four pedestrian ales (JHB, Harvey’s Best, Landlord and something else) with four ciders (some fairly ubiquitous but others of real interest). A good enough place to while away an hour.“

“A modern suburban pub, a bit run down, but surprisingly serving 5 real ales by gravity. Not a place I’d choose to hang around by myself - but certainly worth a trip once you’ve tired of the Mill Road pubs.“

You’re a local as soon as you walk through the door. Pucker English pub grub. 6 gravity ales, including local rareties (Cambridge moonshine, etc.) Festivals are a bonus, but I’ve never managed to be in the coutry at the time! 10 minutes from the edge of the centre.“

“Cambridge Beer Festival, with an afternoon kick-out, presents a problem as to what to do in the mid-afternoon hiatus. Most of the decent pubs are on the other side of town and the city centre is very Greene King dominated. This pub is the solution. On the northern outskirts of Cambridge, the initial impression is hardly encouraging - a modern "community" pub in a residential area. However, once you get inside, you see what a transformation the current landlord has made. 6 changing real ales on handpump. The ceiling is festooned with pump clips from the many guest beers that have passed through the pumps. Food has a good reputation although we didn’t eat. There are three beer festivals a year with 50 plus beers. Plenty of activities such as quiz nights, pool & darts leagues and a music club a couple of times a month. The landlord and landlady were very friendly and welcoming - the landlord even broke off from his cooking duties to have a chat with us about the beer festival and the beers. Although it won’t win any awards for the architecture or the interior decor, this is the epitome of what a well run community local should be, compared to the run down crap holes that most of them are. Definitely worth a visit, although its well off the beaten track for those who are on a tourist visit (as are most of the decent pubs in Cambridge).“
