78 /100 Bierencafé de Heks (Bar) BRINK 63 Visited on a Wednesday afternoon. "Bruine kroeg"-look. Breaths beer. Enough beers to choose from. Have got their own house beer. Do visit when in Deventer. (4-2024). |
74 /100 Marcels Mitra slijterij Deventer (Beer Store) C.HUIJGENSSTRAAT 1 Now known as Marcels Drankenspeciaalzaak. Quite interesting beer collection. Usual suspects, but also less standard beers and some local brews. Friendly staff. |
78 /100 SLUISSTRAAT 6 Good atmosphere, altough a little loud acoustics. Crowded with people of different age, but mainly young generations. Visitors are seated at long beer tables, some at smaller tables. No service, yoy have to get your beers at the bar. Some dozens of beers on tap, mainly their own plus some colleague brews; broad selection, including new and limited editions. And next to the brewpub is a shop where you can buy bottled beers in self-service. Was there beginning of March'23, bit didn't try the food. |
68 /100 Mitra De Vijfhoek Deventer (Beer Store) ANDRIESSENPLEIN 38 Typical Mitra. Interior like most Mitra's. Friendly staff. Reasonable selection of beers, including local brews. I visit them a couple of times a year. |
76 /100 Bierencafé Persee (Bar) BRINK 32 Visited on a friday evening. Modern and 'hip' place with a servicable tap and bottle menu. They had some Sweetwater and Freigeist on tap, which I enjoyed. Plenty of Eastern European craft breweries (Axiom, Bakunin...) among the can and bottle menu.
Good alternative to the more cozy De Heks, which unfortunately has a pretty unimaginative beer selection nowadays. |
74 /100 SLUISSTRAAT 6 Good atmosphere. Family friendly. Mostly own brew but also other beers. Fine place to eat some. (11-2017). |
82 /100 SLUISSTRAAT 6 Fooddock Festival. So beers are OK, plenty. Food limited choice but was nice. Had a good time and some 10 beers taste. Good festival. |
84 /100 SLUISSTRAAT 6 We visited here Thursday 27th September 2018. It had been the most wonderfuI autumnal day and we'd had a lovely cycle ride alongside the river from our campsite near Diepenveen just north of Deventer to Zutphen and back. The DAVO taproom was our last stop of the day and what a great way to end a smashing day. DAVO taproom is to the south of the town it is close to the IJssel and Rijjkstraatweg and bridge that cross the river. It is on the corner of Emmastraat and Sluisstraat, technically the address is classed as the latter. It's a large imposing looking building, I'm not good on my architectural styles but it reminds me a little of the Hoover building in London so I'm guessing it's Art Deco style. Inside it's spacious, and predominantly open plan, there are a couple of small rooms off of the main space, such as a little shop area near the front on the left as you enter, it has bottles and some merchandise, but even these are completely visible. I forgot to mention that to the best of my knowledge it's step free access. The look of this place is quite industrial, it was a little dark but perhaps that was exaggerated by the fact that it was so bright outside. The bar is ahead but slightly to the left, there is a fair amount of seating in here but as I have already mentioned it's a nice day and so pretty much everyone apart from folks ordering are sat outside. We sat outside, there were quite a few tables, the long sharing types. There were a few work parties having a good time, in fact it was a very friendly and welcoming vibe, we really enjoyed it and stayed for a couple of beers. I think that there were about 10-12 taps and as I recall most if not all were their own beers. I had a DAVO Lost Boys Imperial Red Ale, a Fender Bender and the IPA, all were fine without being amazing. But it was the vibe we liked, I would definitely return here, the food looked good but we had a meal back at Frank. |
78 /100 SLUISSTRAAT 6 Whoa! Impressive building. Super crowded on friday evening, didn’t expect this to be so big. Must’ve been around 150 / 200 folks in there. Interesting mixed crowd with age variation from 20-something up to 60-something sharing tables. Indoor swimmingpool chatty sound is pretty intense here after walking 14 minutes through practically a ghosttown. Student personnal at the bar super laidback and easy, yet very prompt and assertive. 12 Taps with only a few guest beers, mostly Davo. Beer quality is ok, certainly not impressive. Seems catered to the average crowd with a blonde, dubbel, tripel and bock headlining on the tap menu. There’s also an IPA and an Imperial Stout there but I didn’t get those in my tasting plank. Food is pretty basic, we left for dinner elsewhere after some bitterballen. I was impressed with how crowded this place was and would have stayed for more ticks if I wasn’t on a schedule to also catch a concert at the Burgerweeshuis. Recommended. |
68 /100 De Poort van Kleef (Beer Store) RIELERWEG 37, When in Deventer... Lovely shop, chatty owner, found lots of local brews. |
58 /100 Bierencafé de Heks (Bar) BRINK 63 We visited Bierencafé de Heks on Wednesday 26th September 2018. It was a lovely day weather wise, we had sat out at another café in the main square and had something to eat earlier as this was yet to open. When we did eventually arrive here Loz had Uiltje El Patron, I forget what I had but we sat outside in the early autumn sunshine. Bierencafé de Heks is in the centre of Deventer located just past the bottom end of the main square in town. It is a nice place inside, quite traditional bar straight ahead, with a large beer list off to the side. The young female serving us may have been having an off day as she seemed quite unhelpful and indifferent towards us, it wasn't as if she was unfriendly it's as though we were a chore and she wanted to get back to chatting with her regulars. Back to the bar inside, there was seating in here,it looked quite traditional but nice appearance, however as already mentioned we chose to sit outside. A couple of retired looking chaps and the bar lady also came outside as they all wanted a cigarette, one of them then proceeded to sound like he was trying to hack his lungs up in between drags of his cigarette throughout the entire time it took us to finish our drinks. I suspect that if we'd have come on a different day we may well have got a much better impression of the place. Perhaps it hadn't long opened when we'd arrived, perhaps the young bar lady had been a bit rushed, I could put out all manner of suggestions as to a reason our experience was as it was, but whatever excuses there may be, sadly this was how it was for us today. If truth be told we much preferred the place we'd eaten lunch at despite its much more than limited beer choice of mostly Brand beers. |
72 /100 Bierencafé de Heks (Bar) BRINK 63 Visited on a friday evening, packed to the max, music levels where louder than your average music concert. Staff was friendly, selection of beer is good, prices are ok to a bit higher.
If the music wasnt as loud, and if it wasnt as packed i would have stayed longer... but i want to be able to talk to my friends when im somwehere.... |
82 /100 SLUISSTRAAT 6 Large venue, crowded to the max when i visited. Noise levels where nonetheless acceptable, was a cozy crowded feeling, service was friendly, prices ok, beer selection is ok. |
76 /100 Bierencafé de Heks (Bar) BRINK 63 Finally made it to this bar. Full of beer what can I say, small and on this Thursday afternoon not very busy. Had a local DAVO beer. Nice. |
82 /100 SLUISSTRAAT 6 Very spacious and hip industrial looking venue just beyond the edge of the beautiful city centre. Diverse selection of DAVO beers, some guest taps and a very decent bottle list of international craft. The DAVO beers themselves may be a bit hit and miss, but I do see (taste) sings of improvement. The IPA and Imperial Stout for example are quite enjoyable. Friendly personnel, eager to chat and provide info on their house beers. For the food menu they rely on a joint venture with a local Mexican restaurant, who have provided a chef who works at the brewpub. I had a great Mexican hotdog. Though the beers can be a bit mediocre, I had a really great time at this brewpub, it’s exemplary. |
80 /100 SLUISSTRAAT 6 Industrial looking place, just south of the centre. Selection of their own beers, some good guest draft and a nice selection of craft bottles. Good prices and nice food. Friendly people. The Netherlands need more places like this. |
70 /100 Bierencafé de Heks (Bar) BRINK 63 Pretty, small to medium-sized bar close to the market square. Rather crowded on a Saturday afternoon/early evening with a very mixed but younger audience. More than a dozen taps with Dutch and Belgian standards and a few micros as well plus one real house beer and quite a nice bottle selection mainly from smaller Dutch breweries. Nothing spectacular but very solid. Average prices and attentive staff. Nice bar! |
72 /100 De Poort van Kleef (Beer Store) RIELERWEG 37, Small to medium-sized, cosy and neatly organized slijterij close to central station. Huge part of it is occupied by a diverse beer selection consisting of mainly Dutch micros (including locals) and Belgian standards with some additions from other European countries and the US. Rather high quality at decent prices, though nothing too special. Staff is attentive and talkative. Good shop! |
86 /100 De Poort van Kleef (Beer Store) RIELERWEG 37, Mijn favoriet vanwege het buitengewoon goede assortiment in bieren (ik geloof 350) en whisky |
74 /100 De Poort van Kleef (Beer Store) RIELERWEG 37, Small store just a short walk from the train station. Surprisingly diverse selection of Belgian, Dutch micro and even some fairly pricy but interesting US beers that were new to me. Owner is enthusiastic and chatty about beer. I will stop here again the next time I’m in Deventer. |
80 /100 Bierencafé de Heks (Bar) BRINK 63 Nice bar at the centre of the city. Lots of taps, good atmosphere, nice barkeepers. They serve a small glas as taster if you’re interested in one og the tap beers.
Also good music, a bit alternative. |
72 /100 Bierencafé de Heks (Bar) BRINK 63 Cozy atmospheric bar in the beautiful town of Deventer. Selection is decent, with a number of Dutch beers on tap and a collection of mostly Belgian bottled beers. Unfortunately, a couple of interesting beers on their board were no longer available. They should take the effort to update it. Staff was friendly enough. Be sure to try their house beer, which is pretty good.
Update january 2016: Pleased to find an expanded tap and bottle menu, including some Mikkeller and US beers. |
74 /100 Bierencafé de Heks (Bar) BRINK 63 Nice brown beer bar with okay selection on its 18 taps and there also enough diverse bottles too. Nice bar in the center of Deventer near the terraces of the other cafés. |
72 /100 Marcels Mitra slijterij Deventer (Beer Store) C.HUIJGENSSTRAAT 1 Interresting Mitra store.
Ambiance could be better it’s a bit simple Mitra style and the beers are in the middle, The shop window however is nice.
Selection is different, from what you normally see at Mitra
Quite some American, British offerrings.combined with Dutch Microbreweries in the same styles.
In addition 1 or 2 local offerings
Now offcours you get the standard Mitra selection of Duth and Belgian and German brewers, but this is actually the smaller part of the selection.
Friendly owner who knows his stuff.
Pricing is about the typical Mitra prices, however the Non Mitra stuff is at the lower end.

74 /100 De Poort van Kleef (Beer Store) RIELERWEG 37, Small store (actually the owners have 2) Good knowledge of products
While it’s a small store they do have a nice selection of beers from various European countries and a few from the US. Also some regional items and a few beers specially brewed for the store. The selection does contain some suprising items, but as it’s a small liquor store don’t expect ahuge collection. Still it’s worth a stop if you are in the area. |
76 /100 Bierencafé de Heks (Bar) BRINK 63 Cozy and small pub in Deventer. When we got there on wednesday 6.30 pm, we didn’t get anything like the almost empty pub as we expected. Instead, the place was packed with young and beautiful women. Interns from the local hospital the bartender later told me. They left at 8 and left an almost empty pub. Taps include some beers from dutch microbreweries as well as a lot of belgians. Their own beer Pyromaan is well worth trying. Bottles aren’t very interesting, mostly common belgians and only a few rarer beers. Nice music and not very expensive. |
92 /100 Marcels Mitra slijterij Deventer (Beer Store) C.HUIJGENSSTRAAT 1 Een full service slijterij met een enorm assortiment aan dranken, wijnen en bieren! |
80 /100 Bierencafé de Heks (Bar) BRINK 63 Exceptional beerpub in the beautiful old town of Deventer. They serve their own beer, which is easy but good. Ask for the bottled selection, the lists on the wall are no longer up to date. Good service, nice and open atmosphere, well priced. I love this place. |
72 /100 Bierencafé de Heks (Bar) BRINK 63 Nice little place, easy walking distance from the train station. 18 good tap beers and well priced. |
86 /100 Bierencafé de Heks (Bar) BRINK 63 A nice little brown bar in the center of Deventer. Have a nice selection of Belgians and a small selection of good Dutch brews like ’t IJ and Emelisse. They also have a few beers of their own. |
64 /100 Bierencafé de Heks (Bar) BRINK 63 They didn’t have all the beers listed and the bartender did not know some beers that were listed on the board (on the wall).
It’s a nice place, friendly staff, food’s typical drink food, and the prices are good.
Though the selection seemed a bit small, they told us not everything was in at the moment, maybe we hit the wrong day. It’s and ok bar. |
74 /100 Bierencafé de Heks (Bar) BRINK 63 Nice cafe with a decent selection of beers, friendly staff and a good atmosphere. I have one of their supposed to be own beers. However I doubt it’s their own beer. Possibly brews from ’t IJ. |
78 /100 Bierencafé de Heks (Bar) BRINK 63 Very nice student place on the main square of the city. Good beer selection, and they also brew their own beers, which can be tasted in the pub, and (if you are lucky) bought in bottle to take away. The staff was knowledgeable and very helpful, and the athmosphere in general very nice. The only drawback was that the music was turned up very loud when the male barkeeper showed up. |
