64 /100 Swan, Kidderminster (Bar) VICAR STREET One room pub opposite the town hall with 6 real ales & real ciders |
82 /100 KIDDERMINSTER TOWN HALL, VICAR STREET Visited with my good lady before watching Grimsby Town lose in the FA Cup on Saturday 6th November 2021. Lovely setting for a beer festival. Plenty of space and enough tables and chairs for those that wanted them. Everything is gravity, direct from the cask (apart from to keg lines). They also had a Cider bar and a Gin bar, outside was a burger tent. Loads of new Real Ales to try, we did eight before moving on. |
72 /100 KIDDERMINSTER TOWN HALL, VICAR STREET The Kidderminster Beer Festival is held in the Town Hall, right in the centre of town. This is a review for the first festival post pandemic. The Festival uses several of the rooms with lots of seating available, the beers being racked up in the main hall. It's well organised and efficient. The room and beers were quite cold due to Covid rules and the leaving open of doors and windows in November, but it wasn't really a problem, just nice to have something to go to. Friendly service throughout. |
66 /100 King and Castle (Bar) SEVERN VALLEY RAILWAY STATION, COMBERTON HILL This is an atmospheric pub seemingly that has taken over the whole of the steam railway frontage. It occupies a pleasant, airy hall with the bar on the left as you enter. The seating to the back is under glass cover looking towards the steam railway platforms. The beer range is beers from the local area, seemingly all cask beers, very traditional. Very atmospheric but not quite up to what I was expecting. |
82 /100 Weavers Real Ale House (Bar) 98 COMBERTON HILL This is a modern style micropub on the way towards the Railway Stations, up a small hill, known locally as the Weavers on the hill. Single roomed shop conversion with the bar to the rear. Proper pub well supported by the locals with decent opening hours, proper pub vibe with an eclectic mix of customers. A good choice of beers on both cask and keg. Best pub of my Kidderminster tour. |
74 /100 Weavers at Park Lane (Bar) 40 PARK LANE This is an old canalside pub just a short walk from the town centre, although the pub has been set up in an old Georgian building and has only been a pub since 2014. You wouldn't guess this though, there are small rooms inside just off the bar and a large garden / patio area overlooking the canal. Friendly with lots of staff milling about, chatty. There 6 Real Ales from across the region, one specially brewed for the pub by Woodcote Manor. Well worth a visit when in Kidderminster. |
34 /100 Olde Seven Stars (Bar) 13 COVENTRY STREET This is the oldest remaining pub in Kidderminster and has an interesting, reasonably untouched interior with several rooms that I could see. The main bar is through to the rear. There is also a decent sized garden area with covered patio. The beer range is pretty dull unfortunately and getting service is very difficult. Go for the history but not the beer. |
74 /100 Bear & Wolf (Bar) 11-17 WORCESTER STREET This is a jolly micro pub style converted shop just off the main shopping area, it's a little larger than many of the genre but definitely has the feel. There are 6 Hand Pumps with an interesting mix of mostly local(ish) ales then 4 keg fonts with a couple of decent choices. Lots of seating through the pub, nice buzz. Definitely worth a visit when in Kidderminster. |
44 /100 Swan, Kidderminster (Bar) VICAR STREET This is a town centre boozer sited within the main shopping area, opposite the Town Hall. There is a pretty basic beer range with just the odd guest beer available, little of interest on the keg fonts either. They have several tv's all showing sports. Has an early opening, taking advantage of the lack of a Wetherspoons in town now. |
50 /100 Swan, Kidderminster (Bar) VICAR STREET Brief visit on 3rd July 2021 after a meal with my wife at the nearby Bistro Pierre. Missed the England match and this place was showing highlights. Less than half full when we arrived at 10:15pm. Quite a relaxed atmosphere, chatted to a few locals who were sound. Bar staff were helpful and were happy to order a taxi for us when our mobile phone died.
Beer wise there is little to write home about. I didn't realise it was a Davenports and just went for a St. Austell's Tribute on cask. At the time of writing I have had many of the classics in bottled form but not rated on cask. Found out there was a Davenport option afterwards but its not easy when you cant order from the bar and see the selection due to Covid restrictions. Other offerings I remember were a Theakston's and a Maltsmith IPA. Slim pickings.

72 /100 Bear & Wolf (Bar) 11-17 WORCESTER STREET This micropub is fairly new, and adds that little bit more choice to the Kidderminster beer scene. It's reasonably cask-led with six breweries from this side of the West Midlands (Bewdley and Three Tuns) alongside slightly farther afield breweries like Brewster. They've got a decent little can selection, along with the compulsory Tiny Rebel there were some cans that I didn't know on sight but looked interesting. Could do with a couple more craft taps (the lager from Wye Valley and a Fixed Wheel stout were available), but certainly not a bad shout if you're in Kidderminster. |
76 /100 Weavers Real Ale House (Bar) 98 COMBERTON HILL Comfortable micropub close to the railway station. It's free of piped music, although the sound of conversation fills the air. The focus here is cask - I counted eight handpulls - although they offer six keg beers as well, including two from Black Country brewers Fownes. The beers are mostly sessionable; you'll struggle to find much over 5%. This is a good place to get lots of local-ish ticks in a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere. One to include on any Kidderminster pub crawl. |
68 /100 King and Castle (Bar) SEVERN VALLEY RAILWAY STATION, COMBERTON HILL Add Kidderminster to the list of towns with pubs at the rail station. The King & Castle is a perfect place to spend some time while waiting for your train to arrive. It's bright inside, fairly smart and a little bit formal. The beer list, while reasonably extensive, is surprisingly 'safe'. They mostly carry headline beers from nearby breweries such as Hobsons and Backyard, so very little I hadn't tried before. I opted for a Bathams Bitter which was in fine condition and very cheap. It's nice enough but neither the ambience nor the beers tempted me to stay beyond a swift half. |
60 /100 Weavers Real Ale House (Bar) 98 COMBERTON HILL Nice place with a micropub feel just outside Kidderminster town centre. A bit of a hellish junction to cross if you're parking across the street. Didn't notice any keg beers on our visit, just 6 or so cask and a couple of fruity pseudo-ciders, so I assume they've got rid of them. Friendly staff. Some interesting beer books, including some first edition Michael Jacksons and a first edition 'Beer is Best' by John Watney. A decent place for simplistic bitters and golden ales. Some more adventurous offerings wouldn't go amiss. |
72 /100 King and Castle (Bar) SEVERN VALLEY RAILWAY STATION, COMBERTON HILL Visited here whilst spending a day travelling from Bridgnorth to Kidderminster on the Severn Valley Railway to celebrate my Mum's 70th birthday. Similar in design to the Railwayman's Arms at Bridgnorth station in that there are plenty of railway signs on the walls, but somehow lacks in the atmosphere that pub has, not quite sure why. A nice array of local cask, including the ever-present Bathams Bitter and some Bewdley and Hobsons, plus we managed to catch their July cider festival with around 25 box ciders, though these were completely out of view in the cellar. Some cobs in the bartop fridge, and I couldn't help notice a lunchtime special offer - cask pint, cob and crisps for £5.75. Can't argue with that. |
78 /100 Weavers Real Ale House (Bar) 98 COMBERTON HILL Small, homely bar close to the station. Mix of traditional and modern styles both in terms of the decor and the tap list. Very friendly service. Decent selection of cask and keg beers, plus a few bottles. Prices seemed good. I would certainly recommend the place. |
84 /100 Weavers Real Ale House (Bar) 98 COMBERTON HILL This is bye far the best place to visit... 12 hand pulls and 6 craft ales... |
60 /100 Station Inn (Bar) 7 FAIRFIELD Locals pub round the corner from the statiion... |
78 /100 King and Castle (Bar) SEVERN VALLEY RAILWAY STATION, COMBERTON HILL Not a bad selection when on a visit to the Severn Valley Railway... |
82 /100 Weavers Real Ale House (Bar) 98 COMBERTON HILL Visited on 21st January 2017. Micropub in a modern development on the hill down towards the town centre. Single room place, plenty of seating in mixed style, bar has 12 hand pulls and 6 keg taps dispensing a great selection of beer and ciders from the locality. Staff were really friendly, happy to chat about the beer, thirds available too if there are too many new beers. Beer quality was excellent, picked up some new ticks here. Prices good and a CAMRA discount offered. For local ales this place takes some beating and shades it as the best of the 4 venues I visited. Popped in again after Telfords late capitulation against Kiddy to drown my sorrows with another pint. Liked it a lot. |
62 /100 Station Inn (Bar) 7 FAIRFIELD Visited on 21st January 2017. Situated a couple of minutes walk from the station (opposite direction to Severn Valley station) this is a local CAMRA multi award winning pub. Single L shaped room as you walk in, most of the tables set up for food with a couple for drinkers, there’s also a covered outdoor area and a back room. Selection of local cask ales plus one guest on the bar, nothing to get too excited about, beer is well kept, a CAMRA discount is offered, and prices not too bad. It’s definitely a solid local boozer but one I won’t rush back to for new beers. |
70 /100 King and Castle (Bar) SEVERN VALLEY RAILWAY STATION, COMBERTON HILL A must visit for any beer drinker going on the Severn Valley Railway with an hour to spare. A small old Victorian style railway station pub with eight mainly Hobsons cask ales. Well kept beers and good service. Basic pub food too. Well worth the visit. |
68 /100 King and Castle (Bar) SEVERN VALLEY RAILWAY STATION, COMBERTON HILL Little run down inside, but wow, its part of the steam railway station. With a nice little museum etc beside it. Beer was ok, with about 5 or 6 middle of road bitters and goldens. pub was fairly big and open with a sligth waiting room feel.. worth a stops id say |
70 /100 King and Castle (Bar) SEVERN VALLEY RAILWAY STATION, COMBERTON HILL Visited on a Saturday afternoon in August 2015. A short walk across the car park leads to this pub which is part of the Severn Valley Railway station. House beer from Bewdley brewery, a couple of guests and local beers make up a decent range of handpulls, all well kept and decently priced. Place was busy. the decor is looking a bit tired but adds to the ambiance of a worn station buffet. Plenty of room to spread out. Nice place, handy for a swift rate in between trains. |
74 /100 King and Castle (Bar) SEVERN VALLEY RAILWAY STATION, COMBERTON HILL Within the old railway building. Nice quaint atmosphere, friendly staff. The place is a little shabby but this adds to atmosphere. Six cask ales on with three keg lagers and two keg ciders. Bathams was on cask along with a couple of local microbrews and some from further afield. Nice place. |
72 /100 King and Castle (Bar) SEVERN VALLEY RAILWAY STATION, COMBERTON HILL On the station that serves both British Rail and the Severn Valley Railway (SVR). The best pint of Batham’s for miles. The old place is a bit tatty around the edges now but it is still a lovely bar to have a pint or two along with a cheese bap. Looks run down, but it opens up to become a fairly large L shaped room with plenty of seating and views out onto the platforms. Been here many times, usually before a football match but other times when on the SVR. Will be in here again soon: Kidderminster play Grimsby in September. |
80 /100 King and Castle (Bar) SEVERN VALLEY RAILWAY STATION, COMBERTON HILL Great value and service in this lovely pub next to SVR and mainline station.Good turn round of ales on the 3 guest hand pumps with some interesting ones turning up from time to time.Choice of good local beers too on the other pumps.Always worth a visit. |
76 /100 King and Castle (Bar) SEVERN VALLEY RAILWAY STATION, COMBERTON HILL Lovely pub next to Kidderminster station, with a beautiful interior and some good guest ales on offer. Excellent value and friendly service. |
80 /100 King and Castle (Bar) SEVERN VALLEY RAILWAY STATION, COMBERTON HILL Beautifully restored and genuine looking pub on Kidderminster’s steam railway station and next to the modern mainline station. A good bunch of local real ales and plush, but not over the top homeliness. Convenient for any traveller to Kiddie and also the Kidderminster Harriers’ football ground. |
