66 /100 Craftbeer Corner Coeln (Bar) MARTINSTR. 32 The only (good?) craft beer bar in town, so that makes it a mandatory stop when in town. It's about a 10-min walk from the central station. They have 15 beers on tap. Flights of 5x0.1L pours for €14 (same as Holy Craft Beer Bar in Dusseldorf). Bartender was very friendly and hospitable. Beer list wasn't that exciting though. They had an imperial stout on, but the rest was pretty pedestrian stuff; I guess even craft beer geeks in Cologne aren't that adventurous. Very pleasant spot to chill, but it doesn't open until late (6pm) during the week. |
54 /100 ROONSTR. 33 About a 30-minute walk from the centre, the draw of this place is they have more than 1 tap (!!!). They had a standard kolsch, an unfiltered (wiess), a weizen, and a bock when I went. 0.2L pours for the kolsch, 0.3L for the others, though the bartender serving me was happy to do (very generous) samples so that I didn't have to order over 1L of beer to tick them all. Beer quality was meh -- regular kolsch was average and the other two I tried were not to my taste. If you have time, worth a visit. |
54 /100 Sünner im Walfisch (Restaurant) SALZGASSE 13 Right in the old town, close to Päffgen. If you just want beer, go to the small room on the right. €2.30 for a 0.2L pour. Beer quality was fine, maybe slightly above average for the style. Friendly service. Worth a stop when doing the rounds. |
78 /100 Gott erhalt's! Bierladen (Beer Store) GREESBERGSTRAßE 2 Really nice bottle shop about 20 minutes walking north of the centre. Small shop, with 4 sections of beers: sours and dark shit unrefrigerated, with German lagers and IPAs refrigerated. You can also drink beers on premises. Toby, the owner, is the nicest guy and very knowledgeable. I hung out with a beer and got a few things to go. Worth a stop when in Cologne once you’re bored of kolschs. |
50 /100 Gilden im Zims (Restaurant) HEUMARKT 77 Right on Heumarkt square. Nice spot, with the usual 1 beer on tap (€2.30 for 0.2L). Pleasant service. Not one of the better kolschs in town, but it was fine. Nothing special, but worth a stop when doing the rounds. |
52 /100 HEUMARKT 6 Just south of the centre, yet another German brewpub with a single kolsch on tap — theirs is slightly above average. €2.30 for 0.2L pours. English was less well spoken here but still easy to get by. Worth a stop if doing the rounds in this boring beer city. |
48 /100 Brauhaus Reissdorf (Bar) KLEINER GRIECHENMARKT 40 Just a little south of the station, this is the usual German brewpub. One beer, 0.2L pours for €2, cheaper than elsewhere. Their kolsch is about average for the city centre brewpubs. Service is pleasant but slow. May as well visit when you’re stuck in this boring beer city. |
54 /100 FRIESENSTRASSE 64-66 Traditional German brewpub, about 20 minutes walking from the central station. 1 beer, the top-rated German kolsch on RB - it’s fine. 0.2L pours for €2.20. Pleasant service. Cash only. Worth the walk so you can tick the top-rated version of this super boring style. |
54 /100 Früh am Dom (Restaurant) AM HOF Another traditional German brewpub next to the cathedral serving of their kolsch (plus a radler). €2.30 for a 0.2L pour. Nice atmosphere and pleasant service. Not the best kolsch in town but may as well come to tick it as it’s so central. |
52 /100 Brauhaus Sion (Restaurant) UNTER TASCHENMACHER 5 Right by the cathedral / central station, fairly large German brewpub. One beer, 0.2L pours for €2.30. Pleasant service. Not one of the better kolschs in town, but may as well come for the tick since it’s so central. Pleasant place to relax. |
62 /100 Gaffel Haus (Restaurant) ALTER MARKT 20-22 Very old review, visited with John. |
58 /100 Brauhaus Reissdorf (Bar) KLEINER GRIECHENMARKT 40 From a very old backlog. |
58 /100 Früh am Dom (Restaurant) AM HOF Pretty impressive place with large, elegant rooms covered in sober wooden panels. Outside seats facing a cathedral. Good service, the Kölsch is unfortunately pretty mediocre. |
90 /100 Craftbeer Corner Coeln (Bar) MARTINSTR. 32 Really cool and vibrant new place. Really good and varied tap list, some good stuff in the fridges as well. Really friendly service. |
46 /100 Brauhaus Pütz (Bar) ENGELBERTSTR. 67 Small, local pub, rustic but a bit dull. Some seats on the outside street. A bit confused service. Food was good. The kölsch was decent. |
80 /100 Lommerzheim (Bar) SIEGESSTRASSE 18 A bit crazy but genuine local pub in an old house that we visited early a saturday evening. Crowded inside and on the patio, lots of people on the sidewalk and the street. Not many tourists though from what I could tell. Päffgen on "cask". Surprisingly efficient service. |
70 /100 CHRISTIANSTRASSE 2 Very nice local brewpub in an equally nice neigbourhood of Köln. A few seats out on the sidewalk. Okay beer selection. Friendly service. |
58 /100 Früh am Dom (Restaurant) AM HOF 2022 rating: usual kölsch place, but this time a bit more tourist trappy... |
64 /100 Peters Brauhaus (Restaurant) MÜHLENGASSE 1 2022 rating: another typical kölsch place, nothing that really stands out. |
62 /100 Dom im Stapelhaus (Restaurant) FRANKENWERFT 35 2022 rating: ok place to have a kölsch, a bit touristy. |
50 /100 Biermuseum (Bar) BUTTERMARKT 39 2022 rating: this was weird place. Like Marduk said, most beers were actually out. Also the whole atmosphere was kind of weird, moldy air, very used things, dark, like some haunted house or something. Memorable, but not really something I would want to visit again. |
60 /100 Gaffel Am Dom (Restaurant) BAHNHOFSVORPLATZ 1 2022 rating: what Marduk said, nothing really special about this place. |
90 /100 Gott erhalt's! Bierladen (Beer Store) GREESBERGSTRAßE 2 2022 rating: best beer experience in Köln. Owner was very friendly and chatty. You can't drink on the spot (he doesn't have the license), but you can drink in front of the shop. Good selection of craft and locals, not maybe the biggest (but also not small by any means!) selection you may have seen, but well curated - so ticks you find are usually worth your time. |
86 /100 Craftbeer Corner Coeln (Bar) MARTINSTR. 32 2022 rating: as Marduk said, the place was actually closed, but staff were nice enough to let us buy something to go. So extra points for that. Otherwise looked like one of the best craft selections in Köln area. |
50 /100 Ausschank Pfaffen Brauerei Max Päffgen (Restaurant) HEUMARKT 62 2022 rating: touristy place with bad service, nothing really interesting beside the kölsch tick. |
80 /100 Beer Belly Cologne (Internet-based) AACHENER STRAßE 307A Used two times the online shop. A lot of NRW mircos and some other online hard to get micros out of Germany. Prices are okay. Fast comunication and delivery. |
66 /100 FRIESENSTRASSE 64-66 Retro/old style Kölsch bar. Reasonable prices, but slow service. Only one beer, but kölsch in Köln, so still worth a visit. Ok bar. |
68 /100 CLEVISCHER RING 121 Beer selection is really limited, but Kölsch in Köln. Decent service, ok prices. Food was fine, prices reasonable. Worth a stop. |
78 /100 KALKER HAUPSTRASSE 260 Nice beer garden. Decent service, ok prices. Only their own beers available, but good condition. Ok place. |
30 /100 Hard Rock Cafe Cologne (Bar) GÜRZENICHSTRAßE 8 Not sure why it is in rb, but the toilet was free and clean. So worth a visit when you need to take a leak. Beer wise: just a couple of macros, so avoid. |
72 /100 CHRISTIANSTRASSE 2 Bar bastante bullicioso, 6 cervezas propias correctas. Parada fuera del foco turístico, bien si tienes tiempo. |
70 /100 Brauhaus Pütz (Bar) ENGELBERTSTR. 67 Parada en la ruta, buena comida y acogedor local. |
70 /100 Brauhaus Reissdorf (Bar) KLEINER GRIECHENMARKT 40 Acogedor Brauhaus |
66 /100 KALKER HAUPSTRASSE 260 Local alejado del centro, un pequeño museo en el sótano. Buena parada si vas con tiempo. |
70 /100 Brauhaus Sion (Restaurant) UNTER TASCHENMACHER 5 Buena Kolsh |
76 /100 Craftbeer Corner Coeln (Bar) MARTINSTR. 32 A great place with good service, probably the best spot to grab a quality pint in Koln. Well worth a visit. |
32 /100 Peters Brauhaus (Restaurant) MÜHLENGASSE 1 This place was absolutely overrated, didn't get the reason it's so jampacked with people. Had a quick beer and went out within 10 minutes. |
50 /100 FRIESENSTRASSE 64-66 It's a nice experience, but defiantly wasn't my thing. |
68 /100 Hopfenrausch (Beer Store) SIMROCKSTRAßE 47 Cool little shop with good service and fair prices. |
82 /100 Craftbeer Corner Coeln (Bar) MARTINSTR. 32 Craft beer bar on the outskirts of Aldstadt. A small chill place, nicely spaced indoor table. They have an outdoor deck upstairs as well. Sort of a typical craft beer bar interior, slightly dim with candles. They have 15 taps, almost all are German beers but they have a couple random others (Romania for example). A number of taps were the typical German styles and then they had some IPAs, sour/wild/fruited beers, and a couple of imperial stouts. Really well rounded list. Nice additional to the traditional Koln beer scene. |
72 /100 Früh am Dom (Restaurant) AM HOF Large brewhaus near the Dom. Surprisingly large inside with tons of seating. Only the Kolsch served of course. They seemed a little more aggressive in refilling your glass, compared to other places. Apparently you’ve got to put the coaster on top even while you’re still drinking your last beer! Traditional German food menu, really good food too. Well worth a stop. |
78 /100 Delirium Café Köln (Bar) SALZGASSE 2-4 One of the few craft beer bars in cologne. Just off the Heumarkt. A smallish cozy place. They have 20 taps, a few Delirium beers of course. The rest are predominantly European. Variety of styles, though certainly a number of Belgians. Definitely worth a stop if you want to get away from Kolsch for a bit. |
64 /100 Ausschank Pfaffen Brauerei Max Päffgen (Restaurant) HEUMARKT 62 Nice cozy brewpub in Alter Markt. Lots of tables, nice interior with wood carvings. They just have the Kolsch of course (surprisingly we were able to order it in a large size, though no one else was doing that). They have traditional German food available (which I didn’t order). Good beer, worth a stop. |
66 /100 Peters Brauhaus (Restaurant) MÜHLENGASSE 1 Small crowded brewpub in Alter Markt. They serve just their Kolsch, in 0.2 l Kolsch glasses. It’s pretty good. They have a large food menu as well, all traditional German food (I didn’t have any). Definitely worth a stop for an authentic Köln Bier experience! (Have to rate it low because there’s no selection really! But you know that going in) |
