68 /100 TOTTORI 123, YASAKA-CHO This is a big roadside station / agricultural park that features local products and fun things to do outside. We stopped in winter and it was dead and quite depressing. I suppose it would be fun in the summer. The brewery makes 8 regular beers, all of which you can buy from the bottle. The brewery itself is located in the food court area, in the crab restaurant. There you can go for an all-you-can-drink for ¥1000, but it will be 2 varieties at a time. They change to a new style every time a keg kills, so if it's busy, you might be able to try several. Overall the beer is decent ji-biiru that doesn't aim to be high-level craft. If you can get a designated driver to bring you here, well, go for it. |
80 /100 1512 KOYAMA, KUMIHAMA-CHO Kinoshita Shuzo, the home of Tamagawa Sake. This is the brewery store with a tasting counter. You can taste as many of the sakes as you want for free, in quite tiny pours. Their whole lineup is here at slightly better prices than you will get elsewhere. Good thing is that there are usually a number of sakes available only here, like their Shuppinshu. This place is really far from any big city and takes forever by train, but if you happen to be in the area, you have to stop. The head brewer, in Englishman, is a genius, and was happy to come out from the office and chat with us when we stopped in. I wish it was closer. |
