“New venture in the redevelopment area of Torr Vale Mill, nestled in the Goyt Gorge, a two-minute walk from New Mills Central Station and the town centre (close to the Millennium Walkway). Excellent selection of bottles. Emphasis on Belgian (including many lambics and trappists), rarer German beers and some harder to find local bottles and cans from the likes of Torrside and Buxton. Also a selection of natural wines and (as you'd expect from the name) cheeses (of the artisanal variety). Friendly and knowledgeable service. No seating: carry-out only (there's a popular bar just next door).“

“We visited here on Saturday 6th October 2018, we were up in Manchester and had been to Indyman the previous day. The Beer Shed is in the town of New Mills, until we'd walked into town I'd assumed that New Mills was a large village however I note from Wikipedia that it is a town with a population of 12,000+. Btw whilst I am on New Mills facts it has two Breweries including one of my UK favourites Torrside, is the home of Swizzles Matlow (sweet manufacturers), has two railway stations and a canal, it's a great town. Furthermore its close to Stockport and Buxton which are 8 and 11 miles away respectively. Anyway onto the Beer Shed

The Beer Shed is on Market Street and I understand occupies what was once an old shop, it's a micropub and like many others that have utilised a premises originally designed for another use, it gets on and does the best with its surroundings. It is long and very narrow with a bar on the left hand side, there are some bottles for sale opposite on shelving, Rock Mill and Torrside and perhaps one or two offerings from just across the border in Cheshire as I recall. There is seating but not a great deal, we perched on some seats just beyond the bar. There is a further room downstairs but we never checked this out, though I do think we used the loo which I recall was down here. We got chatting with locals and had a great time and I think this is where micropubs work so well, they're small and they bring people together. Regarding access for wheelchairs, I cannot recall if it was step free, but as mentioned it is also quite narrow, that isn't to say it can't accommodate. I would recommend calling beforehand just to check.

Beer choice was small but good, Buxton, Torrside and one or two others all local featured and what we had was in great condition. We really liked it here, it was a proper great place, friendly, warming, welcoming and ticked all the right boxes in what I like from a pub. This would be my local if I lived around these parts.“

We (me, Loz, Dad and Pauline) visited here on a Christmas Open Weekend, Saturday 10th December 2016. We travelled from Buxton on the Manchester Picadilly bound train, it’s only 20-25 mins by train from Buxton, I’m guess it’s a similar travel time by car as it’s about 11-12 miles away. It’s really easy to find as it’s by the marina and just a short walk of about 2 mins from the station. Head down the hill out of the station take the second right I think it is on Hibbert St, large unit ahead of you.

It is actually a good sized unit for a new brewery and is surely able to offer plenty of options for expansion should this be required. The tap area was at the far end, squared off in line with office space and (smart and super clean well equipped toilets) There were something like 10-12 beers available on tap during our visit and all three brewers with one or two partners were working and chatting to customers throughout the day. There was also some racking here that had about twenty of their beers available including nine of the stronger Monster range, there was also some limited merchandise available to buy, such as artwork, badges, beanie hats and one of the brewers partners is an artist who designs the bottle labels so some of her artwork was available here to.

We really loved the set up, ok it’s essentially a big unit but it was a great place, really friendly, very open and enthusiastic you really wish these guys all the best. All of the beers were good to great, like Odyssey last year these are my find and brewery of the year this year. We spent about 3 hours here before getting the train back to Buxton, the driver of which made us chuckle as he called out the stops, so for Chapel en le Frith it was ’Awright Chap’ delivered in a flat northern accent, really funny. Great day had here at Torrside we will return.“

“Right on the cusp of where Greater Manchester meets Derbyshire, this pub is in the hills to the north-west of New Mills in the hamlet of Brookbottom which is no more than a collection of houses, however there’s plenty of people that will make a beeline for this place that offers great views over the valley below. The best way (other than a car) to get to this white painted cottage pub is to get the train to Strines which is still part of the Greater Manchester travel network and take the scenic tree-covered track up the hill that brings you out at the entrance to the pub. If it is raining or wet this will be a yomp rather than a pleasant climb. There’s a couple of traditionally decorated rooms to sit in that are more than comfortable and atmospheric. The serving area is small in its own room and has a couple of real ales available. Outside there is an large open space directly in front of the pub which acts as an ample parking area and beyond that is an elevated wooden-decked platform area built specifically as an outdoor seating area for the pub. Dogs allowed.“
