“Visited in 2012 on a Sunday afternoon. I was a bit disappointed to be honest. It’s a pleasant enough pub and was doing a very brisk trade. But the atmosphere was a bit "laddish" and, as Boudicca says, not many of the customers were drinking the house brewed beers. Tried four of the beers, all of whch I’ve had before, and none of them were in great shape. Which is not a great advertisement for a brewpub. I don’t think they are doing bottles any more. The impression is that they have rather let things slip on the brewery side and are more interested in the community pub aspect. Which is a shame as, in the early days, the beers were quite interesting for their time. If you’ve not had the Alcazar beers before you may want to come out here to tick them off - you’re unikely to find them elsewhere in Nottingham - but probably won’t gain much from a second visit. Bit of a hoof from the town centre but you can take the tram & visit a couple of other decent pubs on the way.

Didn’t notice the large bat that Craig mentions.“

“The Fox and Crown was doing a good trade when we visited late on a Sunday afternoon in July, with lots of local families out on the terrace and lots of lads inside. However, I noticed that not many people were drinking the Alcazar beers brewed on the premises. Perhaps it shouldn’t have come as a surprise then that the Fox Tale Ale, their flagship bitter, wasn’t at its freshest. In fact all four of the beers we tried were rather flat, not very clear and had probably seen better days. A shame really, as it’s a nice enough pub – nothing special, and a bit laddish, but obviously popular with locals. (Visited 15 July 2012).“

“One of the East Midlands’ few true brewpubs, the Fox & Crown serves the full range of enjoyable Alcazar beers, with most available on draught with their stronger range available bottled. As far as I know, it is also the only Nottingham outlet for Sam Smith’s lager. A discount on cask-conditioned beers is offered to CAMRA members. The Thai food prepared in-house is excellent. If you plan to eat there, it is worth booking a table in advance as it can get very full. The Fox & Crown is worth getting the tram to from the city centre.“

“A nice microbrewery in the outskirts of Nottingham but easy to reach with their rail service from the center of town. They have several of there own beer on tap but unfortunantly not any of the others on bottle as they had a year ago. I got a free sample of all their own beer before desiding on their Alcazar Ale that I found much like one of my favorite beers Bitter and Twisted. I didn’t try their food but they have a nice smell of Thai food from the kitchen.“

“A must for the Alcazar fan visiting Nottingham as there is not only the pub with a great range of their beers but also the excellent bottled beer shop right by the pub. Handy for the tram too. “

“The Brewery Shop is clean, neat and modernistic. Laminate floor and spotlights: none of the clutter and cardboard boxes of some beer outlets. All the Alcazar beers on sale, plus an interesting if pricey selection of German and Belgian beers. Proprietor was helpful and gave sound advice. 9.7.08 The Shop is now sadly gone. There were 7 Alcazar beers on in the pub. I had 3, none, in my opinion, in the best condition. Thai food was pretty good: we enjoyed Vegetarian Spring Rolls and Chicken Pak Mee.“

“Unpretentious pub that lets its beer do the talking. This visit saw six regular and two special Alcazar beers on tap, two guests and half a dozen continentals on tap. Full range of their bottled beers on sale too. Easy going on a Sunday lunch (no food). Just a short tram ride from the city centre. Brewery shop just down the road was closed on a Sunday.“
