“Busy Spoons pub even in the afternoon in January. Free 2ifi. 2.39 a pint on most cask beers.“

“Corner boozer opposite The Isaac Merritt Wetherspoons. I added this from a description on Whatpub as somewhere worth visiting, it wasn’t, my apologies but it shows how misleading Whatpub can be at times. This is a basic town boozer with just nationally available macro beers on our visit.“

“Large Wetherspoons in the saner part of Paignton, past the Steam Railway and along the shopping area a little. Still pretty busy on a Bank Holiday Sunday but without the bucket and spade brigade down the other end. There were a few local beers available on our visit but unfortunately no winners, which makes 3 out of 3 Wetherspoons on the English Riviera and 6 out of 6 of the latest Spoons I have visited with little of interest, has there been a change in policy regarding their ordering?. Little to really keep us in here, so we moved on.“

“Big Wetherspoons just off the promenade in Paignton, looks like an old amusement arcade type building inside. There were no local beers available on our visit, just the standard nationally available beers that are in every Wetherspoons in the country. Crowded bar around 4 deep, so I didn’t really get to see this information for a while as all the pump clips were showing what could have been available if you had visited in the dim and distant past. Pleased to say that I will never cross this threshold again.“

“This is a British seafront Macro-pub to its core, there is a sprawling frontage with kids playground, benches, group playing rolling pop songs then when entering it is dark and a little dingy, the bar is towards the rear, the glare of a myriad of tv’s and slot machines guide the way. Cramped, despite its rambling size, bustling, madness on a Bank Holiday Sunday. There is a small range of beers and ciders and I did find a winner. Total madness in here, but that is Paignton at its finest.“

“Down to earth, basic seaside town bar on the main drag between the station and the beach. Busy, boisterous on a bank holiday weekend, t.v’s showing rolling news, pub grub. There is a small, local beer range with the odd winner. The best we could find in Paignton.“

“This might be the only place to get something different in Paignton. Some cask offerings in a seaside down that has a much different offering than Dartmouth, along the cost - more Blackpool than Riviera.“

“A fairly typical Wetherspoon’s but with a different feel to the Talk of the Town, which we also went to. The beer range was also more extensive - eleven hand pumps with lots of “LocAle” and three ticks for Chris. (Visited 14 January 2015).“

“The Spinning Wheel Inn is a Victorian gothic pile on the seafront. It’s hard to miss as it’s painted in white and navy blue, it has an advert for Bays (the local brewery) on the wall and there’s a large terrace and children’s assault course at the front. Upstairs was closed so we went down into the cellar bar and sat by the wood burning stove to warm up. Our table was an enormous pair of bellows which complemented a lot of other olde worlde clutter - a hand cart barrel organ, a butter churner, horse brasses and so on. I’m probably not sounding too complimentary but actually it was quite cosy. It was just a pity the beer choice was so limited - three hand pumps, two of which were off, so we could have any beer we wanted so long as it was Bays Gold. (Visited 14 January 2014).“

“Henry’s is almost opposite the Talk of the Town, in amongst a row of small amusement arcades. It’s a little bit old fashioned, with red and cream artex walls and a glossy wooden floor, but actually quite nice in its own way. There are five hand pumps with mainly local brews plus at least a dozen ciders listed on a blackboard over the bar. I expect it gets busy with diners as well as drinkers in the tourist season. “A typical Wetherspoon’s, very popular with an older crowd. It was doing a roaring trade when we visited on a Wednesday lunchtime - much like Paignton itself which, as an old fashioned seaside resort, seems to be bucking the trend and thriving too. It’s full of amusement arcades and bright shops selling cheap clothes, buckets and spades and other tat - all open midweek in January! As for the beer, there were eight hand pumps with the usual ‘spoon offerings plus some local ales. (Visited 14 January 2015).“

“Visited on 23rd April. Had a decent range of beers advertised but had run out very quickly but still didn’t turn the pumps around Service was very very slow even for a Spoons. Think overwhelmed with an influx of folk but had a reasonable range of local beers.“

“Visited on 23rd April 2014. Large pub on Esplanade with a large terrace out front. Features music in the evenings. Had 3 Bays beers on tap and a real cider. Beer quality was decent. Worthy of the walk, especially on a nice day.“

“Visited on 23rd April 2014. Situated on the main ddrag towards the sea from the station in Paignton this is a one roomed bar. A selection of local beers available with Exeter and Dartmoor featuring. Beer quality was OK but maybe a little cold.“
