58 /100 Abdij van Postel - Gasthof De Beiaard (Restaurant) ABDIJLAAN 28 Actually, I have not much more to add. Martinus summed it all up very well, acccurate and complete. The herb cheese is something special, bought some big pieces specially to take home. The place, specially upfront (parking lot, paths and terrace) can get quite crowded and touristic, specially on sundays and good weather days, the Dutch and Belgians get out of their holes and like ants take the place over, lol.
A walk through the abbey garden is fine, bit intense (with the little pest house) but pretty relaxing, due to the atmosphere. Get a good piece of cheese, a beer and just relax. It’s nothing really special and nothing to go out of the way for, but when you’re there, it’s ok. |
66 /100 Abdij van Postel - Gasthof De Beiaard (Restaurant) ABDIJLAAN 28 Quite honestly this isn’t the best place ever if you only consider the draught Postel beers (which are nice enough, but brewed in Affligem, not on the abbey grounds itself). But for the typical old-fashioned Belgian Sunday feel, this place is as good as it gets. Lots of cyclists, sun terrace, good and decent priced snacks and food. There are Belgian fries and ice cream stands at the (rather big) parking lot. It makes for a slightly out of this world, but very welcome environment. The cheese made by the monks is quite marvellous though, the abbey bakery makes great bread, and a stroll on the abbey grounds is nice enough in it’s own right. A nice place to spend (part of) a lazy Sunday afternoon. |
