70 /100 178 SHOREHAM STREET The old Sentinel Brewery premises, which I previously visited, however Triple Point have improved on everything about the experience and created a lot more outside space. Food is served alongside their own keg beers and some guests. |
74 /100 Old Shoe (Bar) UNIT 20, ORCHARD SQUARE Nice roomy bar with friendly service. Free wifi. Bar staff were friendly. I was offered a sample while I made up my mind. Good tap selection. There are fridges with takeaways. There's a terrace outside |
78 /100 Old Shoe (Bar) UNIT 20, ORCHARD SQUARE From the people that brought Sheffield the Cider Hole, this is certainly more craft beer focussed with a plethora of rotating taps and a couple of cask brews at the bar at the rear of this modern design large shop unit conversion in one of the city centre's modern shopping areas. |
72 /100 44 GARDEN STREET Occupying part of a warehouse mill type building in the middle of Garden Street, it's a smart, modern brewpub with Dead Parrot brews occupying its cask selection at the bar in the far corner, guest options are available though. |
76 /100 113 DEVONSHIRE STREET City centre outlet for Vocation brews and some guests over many keg lines, with a fridge of their brews available too for takeaway. The venue with a central entrance and its bar along the back wall has been designed in the same spartan fashion and colours as their original first bar in Hebden Bridge. |
62 /100 56 TRIPPET LANE Large corner pub, traditional styled both inside and out with modern touches throughout and quite durable chain style furniture. It has a decent cask selection in here, backed up by a few keg options. |
56 /100 Fagan's, Sheffield (Bar) 69 BROAD LANE Traditional city centre boozer on one of the main roads through the central area. The bar is upon you on your right after you enter, with a couple of former Kelham Island regulars now brewed by Thornbridge available on its cask brews, although there's nothing extensive or exceptional about its selection. The main seating area is in a mostly square space in front of the bar with seating along the front and side wall of this. |
68 /100 Crow Inn (Bar) 33 SCOTLAND STREET Traditional pub on the northern cusp of the city centre, although it's gone through a modernisation making its appearance more functional than aesthetically beautiful. Nevertheless it has a nice atmosphere and there's a decent mix of crafted cask and keg to be found at its centrally located bar. |
50 /100 Banker’s Draft (JDW) (Bar) 1 - 3 MARKET PLACE Unsual dull and small tap/cask/bottle selection for a Spoon
|
64 /100 Benjamin Huntsman (JDW) (Bar) 12–18 CAMBRIDGE STREET, You know what you get when you enter a spoon
This one was the best I visited in Sheffield
|
58 /100 CAMBRIDGE HOUSE, 2-12 DIVISION STREET, You know what you get when you enter a Spoon.
Not the best beer destination in Devonshire Street/ Division Street. But I got a couple of thick
But i would prefer Benjamin Huntsman if you want a better Spoon |
60 /100 Bungalows & Bears (Bar) THE OLD FIRE STATION, DIVISION STREET Kind of Spoon ish type of bar/pub
Not the best beer destination in Devonshire Street/ Division Street. But I got a couple of thick
Fair enough place |
66 /100 113 DEVONSHIRE STREET Decent beer stop in Devonshire street. But not the best selection
You can also eat here and watch some sport if you like
|
74 /100 BrewDog Sheffield (Bar) 108 - 110 DEVONSHIRE STREET You know what you get with BrewDog
And I enjoy the BD places because they normally have a solid range of beer both on tap and bottles
Would absolutely go back
|
48 /100 Fagan's, Sheffield (Bar) 69 BROAD LANE Small traditional British pub close to Perch brewhouse
Nothing a place I will recommend for beer lovers
Got a tick here, but that was also it
No further plans to go back
|
70 /100 44 GARDEN STREET Dead parrot brew pub.
Good bottle selection, and a decent tap selection
Fine patio at the back
15 min walk from the city centre |
84 /100 Rutland Arms (Bar) 86 BROWN STREET My goodness what a place
In a way hard to describe. You just have to go here!
Traditional British pub located in between some modern buildings
Excellent tap and bottle selection! Some rare gem on tap at my visit
Fine outdoor seating at the back and very good food
Probably my favorite spot in Sheffield
|
78 /100 178 SHOREHAM STREET Lovely brewery tap
Big nice outdoor seating. Especially on a hot fine summer day
You can also eat here. Lots of place inside. The kitchen is in the end
Also a fine solid beer selection
I really enjoyed their beer
Would absolutely go back next time
|
78 /100 Industry Tap (Bar) 85 SIDNEY STREET Lovey small street pub/bar/bottle shop
I would say quite excellent actually
Friendly and knowledgably staff
Recommendable place
Also other really good ones in the same area
|
76 /100 Head Of Steam Sheffield (Bar) 103-107 NORFOLK STREET Bit of an odd one for me, it's a townie pub with big screens showing hoofball etc, but has a really good beer range. Half a dozen guest casks and about a dozen keg, regularly featuring Brew York and Vault City from UK, and a mix of other UK and Overseas. Four thirds for a tenner, and 3 for 2 on cans with a good selection in the fridge |
66 /100 113 DEVONSHIRE STREET I'm hoping the beer range might improve over time to include guests as in their other bars, but at the moment seems to be solidly their own beers, a lot of them to be fair but as I'm not really into hazy IPAs my options are usually limited. Cans sold at very reasonable prices to take out. Food is good if not the most adventurous - burgers, dirty fries, that sort of thing, only ever eaten once as usually only have 1 or 2 beers before moving on. Definitely worth dropping in if you're in town |
80 /100 Old Shoe (Bar) UNIT 20, ORCHARD SQUARE New bar in a former shoe shop. 20 keg taps (two of which nitro) and 2 handpumps, fridges with wide range of beers and ciders. Tap range well varied, local and international, range of styles. All beers available in pint/half/third. Relaxed atmosphere, basic but comfortable furniture, knowledgeable staff (run by Matt from BEAR and Mike from former Cider Hole & Exemption Cider) |
76 /100 Beer Central (Beer Store) NEW MOOR MARKET, THE MOOR This is a small store not too far into the Moor Market complex in central Sheffield. It's quite bijou but stocked to the rafters. You are left to browse to your hearts content and the phone signal was good so I could check as I was going along. There is a nice mix of local brewers and beers from further shores. Well worth a look. Wish they had a web-site so I could have pre checked but never mind. |
68 /100 113 DEVONSHIRE STREET Just a little down Devonshire Street from the Brewdog Bar this is the latest iteration for what was the Old House. I have re -raised it as it is now run by Vocation Brewery and is the latest in an expanding chain. It was reasonably busy on a Friday afternoon, mind you, the Snooker was in town along with a Camra gathering. Lots to choose from, mostly Vocation but also some guests on keg. It's not the most atmospheric of places and it is early days, so the staff were a little confused but I believe it will be a reasonable addition to the Craft scene in Sheffield even if it won't really compete with the more traditional, classic pubs in town. |
60 /100 BrewDog Sheffield (Bar) 108 - 110 DEVONSHIRE STREET Heading down the hill from the Bath Hotel in the Devonshire part of Sheffield you come to the Sheffield version of the Brewdog chain. Unfortunately this was empty and soulless on a Friday afternoon. At one point I was the only person in the building, I thought they had locked up. It has the usual Brewdog look and set up. |
74 /100 Bath Hotel (Thornbridge) (Bar) 60 VICTORIA STREET Classic pub a little off the beaten track but handy enough for the tram line. Two beautifully kept rooms, I used the bar on the left on entry. There is a central bar, friendly service. This is a super clean pub, smaller range of beers but that's fine, all well kept. Can't believe I haven't made it here before. |
78 /100 Head Of Steam Sheffield (Bar) 103-107 NORFOLK STREET Visitited with Mr_Pink152, evilempire and danlo 4.3.23. Head of Steam pubs are always a welcome addition to any city, although I'd reckon that Sheffield needs it less than most. This is one of the better pubs in the chain, with really friendly and knowledgeablestaff (even though they were rammed on a Saturday afternoon) and a great beer list with cask and keg by the likes of Frontaal, Brew York, Northern Monk and Three Hills. That's not even getting to the extensive can and bottle list. Everything's laid out fairly simply (unlike some pubs in the chain) so you can see what's on offer. Recommended, if you can fit it in. |
70 /100 PLATFORM 1B, SHEFFIELD STATION, SHEAF ST. This place is worth visiting just to see the restoration work done on the bar, sadly neglected by British Rail for decades, and the even fancier First Class Waiting Room that now houses the brewing equipment. Two house beers on when I visited, a pale ale and a stout, plus nine guest casks and some keg beer. Barman was friendly and helpful. No food. On track 1B and you don't need a train ticket to visit, you can enter from trackside or from the pavement in front of the station. |
88 /100 178 SHOREHAM STREET This is a lager brewery - the horizontal lagering tanks are a giveaway. Four vastly different lagers on when I visited, plus a dozen others in different styles, including a few guests. Everything was very tasty, including the burgers - I would be hard pressed to choose a favorite, maybe the Vienna. Butg the highlight of the visit was barman Ellix, who had great suggestions and knew the beers backwards and forwards. When I own a brewery taproom some day, I want a dozen Ellixes working with me, my life would be a breeze. |
72 /100 Industry Tap (Bar) 85 SIDNEY STREET Pretty much a bottle shop with an extensive taplist, all laid out on Untappd for your convenience. Minimalist decor for sure, just concrete walls, a serving bar and restaurant tables. Good selection of local and Belgian stuff. Two coolers of beers from near and far, though they don't have a bottle/can list, you just have to look through the fridges. No food. Decent place. |
84 /100 Rutland Arms (Bar) 86 BROWN STREET Neck and neck with Shakespeare's for my favorite place in Sheffield. This place has just one room, every inch of the walls covered with something interesting. Nice beer garden as well, but it was too cold for that when I visited. Small serving bar and lots of restaurant tables. Very pub-like atmosphere, but with amazing food, in the top three foodie places I visited on this six month UK trip. Ignore the "normal" menu - burgers and stuff - and go for the small plates, three for 13.50 and you won't be disappointed. Solid keg and cask lists, and a number of interesting bottles and cans from around the world. Staff are very quick and efficient, but a bit sterile - not the place to sit around and idly chat with staff, at least not on a busy Saturday night. Anyway, it's this or Shaekespeare's. This place clearly wins on food, Shakepseare's staff beats them for sure, and the beer lists are very different but equally interesting. Great place. |
62 /100 Cavendish (Bar) 238A WEST ST, SHEFFIELD, Nice place. Free wifi. Decent tap selection. No casks though |
76 /100 Hop Hideout (Beer Store) UNIT 11 1-13 ANGEL STREET Inside the Kommune food court, at the far end past the main bar. There are signs also. Tiny place, just a small serving bar with four or so taps and two coolers of bottles and cans. Very nice selection, including some lambics not often seen, one of which was on tap. Prices are a bot high, and add 3 quid to anything you want to drink in. But you can take bottles and cans to the food court to consume for the lower price. Solid place. |
78 /100 Crow Inn (Bar) 33 SCOTLAND STREET Visited with mtownley, cheers! Smallish place on the edge of the city center just a few minutes' walk from Shakespeare's. Sort of L-shaped serving bar and scattered tables in two rooms. We pulled some stools up to the bar and had great conversations with the barman over a wide range of good keg and cask beers. Other folks were very friendly as well, easily the friendliest place I've visited in Sheffield so far. Food is cold pies. Well worth a visit. |
60 /100 Head Of Steam Sheffield (Bar) 103-107 NORFOLK STREET In what looks like an old bank building. Dank, hot, sweaty and crowded when I visited on an early Tuesday evening. Every inch of table and bar space was covered with dirty glasses and plates, so I just stood and tried to stay out of the way. Large central bar, cask offerings at the end nearest the street, kegs on both sides. Service was slow. Needs work. |
78 /100 Crow Inn (Bar) 33 SCOTLAND STREET Visited back in March 2022 (and before then, I think) but missed the place rating. Fairly open plan interior the bar on one side. A small court yard outside adds to the space. Both keg and cask beers and a decent selection of regional and national beers. Has had something new and interesting on my visits. Certainly worth a visit on a trip to Sheffield. |
58 /100 Red Deer (Bar) 18 PITT STREET nice building and interior, sadly these days nowt I want to drink, doesn't seem to even get interesting local beers, mostly national blands on cask, nothing remotely craft on keg, and only a couple of decent whiskies |
70 /100 178 SHOREHAM STREET I didn’t expect to come here today, but a felled tree on the line back to the East Midlands gave me a couple of unexpected hours in Sheffield. On a Saturday night, it’s too crowded to be properly good although the service is efficient if cliquey. The beer list consists of three Triple Point keg along with seven in cask, plus a couple of boring guests (Titanic Stout is one). The beer is very, very good, and I always appreciate having it at or near the source. I might come back when it’s quieter but if I don’t, I’m not convinced I’d be missing all that much. I really like Triple Point but I wish I were drinking it somewhere else. |
88 /100 Industry Tap (Bar) 85 SIDNEY STREET I thought I’d already checked out all the great and the good of Sheffield royalty, then along comes this place. Despite the fact I’m visiting on an early Saturday evening, it’s very comfortable and friendly. And the beer. My goodness. 21 taps from anyone you’d want. I was dithering between Northern Monk and Neon Raptor but I opted for a sensibly-priced third of a Seven Islands imperial stout. One of the best Sheffield pubs I have visited. |
62 /100 Common Room (Bar) 1ST FLOOR, 127 DEVONSHIRE ST Nice place with free WiFi 2 of their own beers on tap and 1 guest beer. They do food. Loads of sports TVs. Friendly service |
62 /100 Benjamin Huntsman (JDW) (Bar) 12–18 CAMBRIDGE STREET, Visited April 2009. |
58 /100 40 POND HILL On the quiet side of the bus station, this is an olde world pub with one area away from the bar having wooden beams and a fireplace still looking the part. The bar area, although sympathetically traditional has been modernised. This pub is a Thwaites concern with 3 of their 5 cask ales being from the brewery, but its guests were worthwhile options when I visited - both local microbrewed ales. Has some outdoor seating in a very urban looking setting. |
72 /100 178 SHOREHAM STREET First visit to this brewery tap since it was owned by another brewery. Can’t remember which (Sentinel was it?). My visit was on a Thursday afternoon and it was busy. It’s had a refurb since my last visit, and had plenty of indoor booths and bench seating outside. Plenty of their own beers and a couple of guest on tap. Their naming of beers was a bit off, and took a bit of detective work. |
72 /100 Head Of Steam Sheffield (Bar) 103-107 NORFOLK STREET Behind the Town Hall next to a Sam Smiths pub, this is a modern looking pub with a central bar in a classically old looking building - the interior must have changed a lot. Seating is 360 degrees around the bar, which has a long row of cask and similarly keg options so something should please in here. Two real ciders were also at the bar. Has some outdoor space at the rear. |
60 /100 Showroom Cinema Cafe Bar (Bar) 15 PATERNOSTER ROAD Part of the cinema building near the station, but with its own entrance. It has a modern cafe-bar styling with two Abbeydale regulars on its pumps and a couple of other crafted brews within its keg (Thornbridge AM:PM was one). Its selection is nothing spectacular but is a decent last option venue if you're leaving the city via the railway given its close proximity. |
54 /100 Museum (Greene King) (Bar) 25 ORCHARD STREET In the commercial centre as part of a new build area of shops. It's a split-level ground floor pub from Greene King, with mostly their ales available, but two local brews adorned its cask pumps as well on my visit. Traditional in design but looks brand-new and chain-like. |
72 /100 Industry Tap (Bar) 85 SIDNEY STREET In a ground floor triangular unit in a new build of flats within a fairly industrialised area of the city centre a few minutes walk south of the train station. It's a bright and modern venue selling a row of its own keg ales, but mostly has guest brews. There's no 1/3 measures here, except if the beer is exceptionally strong. There's some fridges for take-away can and bottles. |
66 /100 Red Deer (Bar) 18 PITT STREET Trad pub on the north side of the city centre. Around 8 beers on cask ales but nothing too interesting unfortunately. Had a couple of halves, both in good condition |
74 /100 PLATFORM 1B, SHEFFIELD STATION, SHEAF ST. Proper old school pub, everything is just dark wood. Decent selection of local ales. A must visit, especially if you're coming to Sheffield by train. |
60 /100 Banker’s Draft (JDW) (Bar) 1 - 3 MARKET PLACE Visit April 2010. |
