“Canalside pub on the main road through the town centre, this place has previously been closed for a number of years but is now a vibrant pub serving oriental food and is known as a late night music venue with plenty of gigs taking place here. Probably once a multi-roomed venue it is now all open plan except for a separate room on its right hand side, which was once home to Tor Beers, but is now just an extension of the pub and a route through to its outdoor seating at its side, which has some partial cover. A row of real ales, all local or regional can be found at the bar and usually a keg guest too and real ciders. Has a slightly damp smell.“

“Visited in August 2021. Slightly mixed feelings about this one from my visit. It is really a very decent pub, and being painted bright yellow it's easy to find (next to the canal at the south western end of town). It's roomy inside and there's a nice patio area outside. It hosts regular events (the open mic night whilst we were there was surprisingly decent), and is clearly a very popular place locally. There's up to 6 handpumps (4 on when we visited, all in good nick), all on rotation from local brewers with Eagle's Crag and Saltaire regularly amongst those featured. The half dozen or so keg taps had nothing special though. The food is home cooked Thai, and is rather good. Prices are average for the area. So... It all sounds good, so why the ambivalence? Well, sadly the staff, whilst friendly, seemed incompetent and abysmally slow. Despite the pub being less than half full, it took ages to get served at the bar (the barman seemed to be either stoned or the subject of a sleep deprivation experiment, and was unresponsive and couldn't remember orders). Once I'd finally got the drinks and got the food order in, it took well over an hour for the starters to arrive, and after we'd finished those a further three quarters of an hour for the mains - which was more than a little awkward when we had children with us. We came close to demanding our money back and going elsewhere. It did tarnish the evening somewhat, which was a shame as speed of service aside this was an excellent place. NB the pub used to host the Tor Beers bottle shop in a back room apparently, but sadly that closed the week before my visit.“

“Micropub in a middle shop unit on the second row of shops after the viaduct as you head up the main road to Burnley. It's sufficiently set back from the road to allow plenty of outdoor seats when the weather is good, pretty much doubling its capacity as it's a small place with a handful of small tables and chairs with no real styling about them. The bar at the back has half a dozen hand pumps and they all seem to rotate with a mainly local cross border (Lancashire-Yorkshire) bias. The new at the time of writing Three Valleys brewery also supply all their efforts as part of a decent enough bottle selection for this venue that also includes the likes of Irwell Works and Nothern Whisper. A keg craft lager should be on offer in here too.“

“Previously a set-menu restaurant, set just off the main road close to the market area, this corner micropub is twin floored with the six hand pump bar against the back wall. There's only a handful of small tables downstairs as space is very limited, making it an intimate and social place to drink at. The upstairs is similar but less likely to fill up before the ground floor has. The selection rotates wiith a couple of real cider's in boxes. There's a number of bottles and a couple of keg options too. They often carry a beer from the local Eagles Crag brewery.“

“The upstairs restaurant part of the the three wise monkeys bohemian vibe with eclectic bottle selection and great Thai food. Usually a good selection of little valley amongst the choice.“

“Hanuman is the name of the restaurant which is on the first floor of a corner building on Todmorden’s oldest cobbled street in the commercial centre that runs parallel to the Calder river that’s very small at this point. The food here is superb with plenty of vegetarian options to compliment the fairly extensive Thai menu that is pasted into the pages of hard-back children’s books for you to make your choice from. There’s not a huge amount of tables so you may need to book at the weekend. To get to the restaurant you first have to enter the 3 Wise Monkeys bar on the ground floor, and this is where you drinks will be poured if you are only planning on eating here, however it is worth buying your drinks separately as there is a fine choice of bottled beer and ales here and it’s certainly the best selection for a licensed premises in the town. May 2014 also saw the introduction of the Bridestones bottled brew Tom Yum - a Thai spiced beer brewed specifically for this venue which certainly compliments the meals if you want an ale with your food. The bar itself is small with various comfy chairs in a line in an intimate setting with some Eastern influence in design. The last seat is actually a double bed placed at the far end of the room. Flensburger Lager is served on tap. The bar is a very popular drinking spot in the town.“

“Split into two distinct sides, the left being the wine area, you’ll find a couple of floor to ceiling wooden shelves on the right full of national and local ales and ciders as well as a fair number of Belgian bottles as well. There’s no shortage of lager bottles here too. The ales of interest include plenty from local brewers including full ranges from Copper Dragon, Little Valley and Naylors, and several options from Daleside, George Wright and William Brothers. There’s lots of other brewers represented here too.“

“Todmorden’s ’Thwaites’ pub that is not afraid to source ales from around the country. It’s six ale pumps will of course carry a selection mainly from the brewer but expect one or two guests to be on. As you enter the pub there’s also a coming up sign on the wall with the logos of ales that will be present here in the future. It’s surprisingly modern in its decor with sofas either side of a wall that part-splits what is a considerable sized ground floor room. The bar is against the back wall as you enter and live sport is shown here with two big screen also on the aforementioned partition. It’s set back about 100 yards from the main Burnley Road across a concrete square that is actually the pubs car park. It has more spaces here than it will ever need.“

“A shortish walk north of the markets, but unmissable on the Burnley Road, this is a very small pub but also a very cosy one with a good selection of ales. There’s four pumps and if you come on a Wednesday you’ll get the pick of the new barrels as it is line cleaning day! It’s a small one room affair mostly facing the front of the building with fires at either ends of the room. The door is central and the seating is either side of this in a traditional setting with a low beam roof, stone floor and comfortable seating - it’s a fine place to drink! There is a staircase up to the living quarters incorporated into the drinking space and bands set up and play underneath this. Live sport is also shown here. Food is served Tuesday through to Sunday including breakfasts.“

“Advertised as a real ale pub on its website, it was somewhat disappointing in this respect and not quite as I’d imagined it to be after venturing in. This pub is on the main road between Burnley and Todmorden, close to the small town centre of the latter. It’s a small building with the main seating area at the front which looks like a new romantics venue from the 1980s. The bar to the rear of the building faces the side wall and does stock real ales on three pumps but the selection was unexciting. There was more well known keg lagers and ales available and a JW Lees ale seems to be always available here. Beyond the bar existed only a pool table and the crowd was a friendly bunch beyond middle-age.“

“Located opposite the entrance to the railway station, this Queen Hotel has a large bar area that is comfortable decorated with a more modern soft-furnished appeal but maintains the traditional pub feel. There’s plenty of room and makes for a comfortable place to enjoy drinks or food which is available throughout the day. This is also a hotel and check-in is at the bar if you do plan to stay here, and the good news is that if you are from out of town you can sample local real ales at the bar.“

“There’s a slightly spartan appearance to this pub and its all wooden decor and furnishings, although it works in this pubs favour as it gives it a good look. Its exterior is attractive enough and there’s a makeshift patio area out front that looks the part and is often full if the weather allows, offering views of the main road and the market area of Todmorden. The bar is central in the pub and faces you as you walk in stocking a decent range of ales that rotate. Live music is a regular fixture here and live sport is shown throughout the day. There is a concrete garden area at the pubs rear. Food is served at reasonable prices. In 2018 an American diner type area, fully furnished had been incorporated on the left hand side of the pub.“

“In the hilly farmland above Todmorden to its south and below the Stoodley Pike monument near Mankinholes for which it is a convenient watering hole for hikers attempting this climb, this is a beautifully decorated traditional pub with an emphasis on meals. The bar is central with seating on all sides, it is very cosy with its low ceiling, wooden furniture and decor all covered in commemorative plates, photos, horse shoes and ceramic or metal artifacts from yesteryear and of course soft furnishings as well. Lunch and dinner are two separate serving times during the week, but at the weekend food is available all day. There’s four ale pumps that include Tim Taylor brews and Robinson’s Dizzy Blonde, and one that rotates, and judging by the various pump clips stuck on the wall around the bar it has been rotating for some time! There’s ample parking with more spaces than houses in the immediate area and outdoor tables that are next to the building and some on the other side of the pubs own road. There is a smoking area to the side of the building too.“

“Surrounded by farmland which comes right up to the boundaries of this pubs large outdoor area and along from the Top Brink Inn on the same road, this pub like its neighbour a mile away is traditional in style and look but places an emphasis on meals. This pub is perched high above Todmorden, but its rear conservatory style windows look down into the valley offering fine views of the small conurbation and surrounding hills - naturally these tables fill up first. The tables in this section and set up for dining, but at the front of the pub a slightly cosier pub-like feel dominates and this is certainly a great place to sit if you are just looking to have a drink. If the weather allows the garden area which is partly covered is another fine place to enjoy views across the west Yorkshire countryside. Here there is a fully fenced and extensive play area for children that will keep them occupied and also a chicken coup next to this. There’s plenty of parking available on either side of the building.“

“Wetherspoon pub on two floors very close to the train station. It’s very well decorated in a traditional pub style, but apt given the building it is in has historically been a pub. Ales are available on both bars top and bottom and there is a terrace area outside the top bar, but given this pub is on a hill the terrace is actually at street level. Weatherman John Kettley has his picture hanging on the wall at the top of the top stairs. Can get busy.“

“The White Hart has always been a pub as far as I can remember. Now it’s a Wetherspoon’s but it’s still retained the character of a traditional pub. It’s comfortable and quite cosy, with a roaring fire in winter, and the beer was in good condition. There are 10 hand pumps and a good selection of beers in the main bar. It’s built on the side of the hill so the patio is upstairs alongside an upstairs room and bar which has another 5 hand pumps. The posters around the walls celebrate local history and heroes, including John Douglas Cockcroft who shared the Nobel Prize for Physics for splitting the atom. (Visited 26 December 2012).“

“An old pub with a new twist. The Polished Knob is a new pub in an old pub, if you see what I mean. It was closed for a number of years but reincarnated and reopened with a new name in 2010. It’s in one of those elegant old stone buildings typical of Lancashire and the Calder Valley towns, just opposite the open air market. Inside it’s been opened out a bit but some of the nice old floor tiles remain and there are scrubbed pine tables. The television football commentary was rather loud when we were there but it was Boxing Day, when football games are traditional in some circles. A drum kit was being set up for music later in the day. There are six hand pumps with craft beers mainly from local-ish breweries. It has the feel of a community pub. They do food – home made pies and burgers – and also a selection of mulled wine and winter warmers (hot chocolate and spiced coffees). (Visited 26 December 2012).“
