“Visited February 2023. Quick stop between Bermondsey and London Bridge train station. Just stopped because they have a new english brewery available on cask. Chugged the beer and left. Place was full packed and the ambiance seemed reasonable friendly. Next one please!“

“Located a stone's throw from Tower Bridge, southern side. Lively, busy atmosphere even on this Monday night. Offspring being played loudly. Handful of casks plus around 8 interesting keg options (mostly London breweries) with a number of other crowd-pleasers, although a few of the lines had finished. I got a Black IPA and a spicy festive sour. I'm no longer single and in my 20s so found it a bit noisy, but it's a decent option if in the area.“

“Traditional boozer very close to Tower Bridge. Unfortunately the entire place reeked of drains as soon as we entered. I persevered and perused the beer line-up, which seemed to have a couple of beers brewed for the pub. Wanted to try one, but barman wanted me to buy a different one that I didn't want. So was a bit awkward, but my partner was already out the door unable to stand the drain issue so we left. Shame, as it seemed a nice looking place, typical corner pub set-up with some interesting beer options. “

“Visited 14th August 2022, this is the former Draft House. On a corner just down from Tower Bridge. An airy wooden interior. Plenty of punters enjoying a Sunday roast. Approx 15 keg plus a couple of cask lines. Fine for a pit stop en route to Bermondsey & the beer mile.“

“Really nice old school traditional pub, lovely old décor - great service on my visit, Sam Smith's ticks if you needed them in a nice quiet friendly quiet ambience, good spot - and worth a visit.“

“Visited twice during Beavertown fest, once for pre fest breakfast and another for a few late night beers close to hotel. Usual spoons décor, service lacking, beer choice was limited and remember the cask not great, certainly not of the best JDW establishments.“

“Have visited a few times now, easy to tie in a visit when near Bermondsey. Traditional looking corner pub, great selection of cask/keg, service been fine, usual London prices, worth a stop if in the area.“

“Very convenient for a solid English breakfast before the start of the Bermondsey Beer Mile. The first railway arch, Southwalk brewery, is just a few minutes away. Medium sized street corner spoons in three section, traditional row of cask ales. Polite service. (Visit with Finn early on a Saturday morning 19.10.2019).“

“Good large pub near London Bridge and Bermondsey. Lots of local stuff on tap, numerous taps, good service. Food looked all right but I didn't try any. Decent local pub.“

“This place is in a back street 5 mins walk from the southern end of Tower Bridge. Smart place, inside and out. Friendly, chatty staff. Decent range of around 15 on cask & keg, usually including a good selection of beers from London. There is a bottle fridge and the food looks very nice, although I didn’t eat. Sport shown on TV if that is your thing, it’s not a rowdy pub though.“

“Visited 15/11/17. For me this pub has the decor I associate with an old pub that's going for a more modern crowd. Shabby chic but also slightly bare. It wasn't t overly busy for a lunchtime, but that may have just been the impression given by the quiet clientele. Spotted a couple of other blokes on their own who were clearly ticking. The choice if beers didn't overly excite me. London brewers but standard options. Having said that, would still drop in if in the area.“

“Nice large place near Tower Bridge. Decent beer selection. Around 15 taps including some that shouldn't be there (a house beer in a British pub brewed in Belgium - WTF???) but also some really nice ones. Decent service and prices, really nice food.“

“A rustic place that you wouldn't check out unless you knew how good it is - but I'm glad we did it. Awesome pub food, a couple of casks, many locals frequenting this place, attentive service, and interesting beers on tap. Absolutely recommended to have some food and beer!“

“Visited on 26th August 2016. Back street craft beer and food emporium just a couple of minutes from Tower Bridge. Large single room downstairs and dining upstairs this is a well decorated relaxing venue. Good range of beer on Keg and cask. 3 from London brewing plus Burning Sky and a brand new Kernel APA on my visit. Beer quality and prices good and decent service. Like this place“

“Absolutely the best beer selection in this area. Very updated beer menu. Friendly and helpful staff. Decent toilets. Solid bottle selection. Absolutely a recommendable place! Easy to find. 5 min walk from Tower Bridge. Not that big, can easily be very crowded.“

“A real throwback pub. Like travelling back in time. There’s no music, no TV. One barman, a real salty bloke. A real fireplace, with flames blazing on my Saturday afternoon visit, in March. Good range of Sam Smiths on the go. Various different rooms where you can split off to enjoy your drinks. Low prices. Sam Smiths isn’t really the most exciting brewery, but it’s worth checking this place out for the atmosphere.“

“Visited in 27th August 2015 - Good place near to the Tower Bridge. Cosy and modern place with friendly staff and nice english selection. Price was quiet expensive on tap (Beavertown Black Berry pint for £7.5). I didn’t try the food.“

“10 minutes walk from the Tower of London across the Tower Bridge, this small traditional wooden pub offers a nice selection of circa 10 kegs and 10 casks. Selection is mostly UK craft and not necessairily obscure beers, but also brew (contract brew?) some own beers, so will always find a couple ticks. Don’t do thirds.“

“Situated a couple of minutes from the Southwark Brew Co. and a handy stop off if a rater is not thirsty enough after a morning sampling Bermondsey’s finest this place is handy. It’s not the best of Spoons, the beer list is poorly kept, not usually much on, the ambiance of the place isn’t great and to be honest it’s one of the worst examples of a Spoons I’ve been in. Don’t bother. Head round the corner to the Draft House or the Dean Swift instead“

“Apparently the word “pommeler” means “one who pummels” and it’s associated with the leather trade (beating the leather I suppose) but it can also refer to a fencer who holds his or her sword in such a way as to make it appear longer. I offer this information (gleaned from a bit of googling) because I’m struggling to find much to say about the Pommelers Rest. It’s a typical Wetherspoon’s - light at the front, dark at the back, carpeted and with a few guest beers alongside the ‘spoon regulars. (Visited 18 June 2015)“

“The Anchor Tap was originally the brewery tap for Courage, whose Anchor Brewhouse was opened in the late eighteenth century and closed in the latter part of the twentieth. The brewery sprawled over a large area and it’s been renovated and refurbished to accommodate flats, shops and bars although the area still retains a Dickensian feel. The Anchor Tap is now a Sam Smith’s pub and it’s like a time warp - a completely unspoilt warren of rooms, all with dark oak panelling, nicotine stained walls and chocolate brown ceilings. There are only two hand pumps but the beer was in excellent condition and it’s well worth a visit just to soak up the atmosphere even if, as when we were there, it’s as quiet as the grave. (Visited 18 June 2015).“

“WoW. I did not think places like this existed in central London any more. Lovely BROWN pub that seems to be unspoilt from ugly music and dozens of tv screens with sport. Small rooms to relax with your friends and enjoy your beer. Mostle Sam Smith ale. But that works really fine! The place is kind of hidden behind the main road to Tower Bride. No tourist (like me hehe)“

“Visited on Saturday 03/01/15 around 3.30pm. Street corner local, pretty small and very much a gastropub, the place was pretty rammed even at a post lunch period and was full of folks chowing down. We stood around a pillar near the bar and got to work with our beers. 3 cask lines, 10 keg lines and a decent enough bottle list to boot. Beer choices were ok, decent range of styles on offer, service was prompt - plenty of bodies behind the bar. Overall a solid stop, 5 years ago I’d have come here regularly, in London 2015 I can’t see myself heading here unless I happended to be in the area but worth noting you can reach this venue in not much more than a 5 minute walk from the northern most Bermondsey railway arch brewery.“

“Visited around 3pm on Saturday 3rd January 2015. Trad old boozer in the typical Sam Smiths mould, a rabbit warren of rooms largely formed around a central bar, lots of wood and pretty dark. Old Joannah in the room at the rear where we camped out. Usual Sam Smiths range, OBB on cask, 3 or 4 kegs, half a dozen bottles which are not good vfm compared to the tap range - think upwards of £5 a bottle for shitty fruit beers etc! The place was pretty quiet but still a nice vibe, service prompt and friendly. Decent back street boozer of old and worth a look if in the area.“

“Visited around 2pm on Saturday 3rd January 2015. Medium sized spoons just off Tower Bridge and moderately busy with a few ’drinkers’ interspersed with tourists. The beer range was a little lacking by JDW standards, just 2 beers (available!) above and beyond the standard house cask stuff. The WJ King Festive had turned to vinegar - no excuse for serving this, cask mark acredited - means bollocks! Barkeep did replace it and turn the clip round so at least it was dealt with properly. Overall ... no need to stop here, poor range and badly kept - you’ve been warned!“

“Visited a few times over the years and most recently over the summer. Feels worn and tired which comes as no surprise considering the foot traffic that must pass through this pub. Friendly barman. Not far from Dean Swift and Draft House but could be a worthy stop on a crawl around Tower Bridge for a pint of stout.“

“Rating 62 Oct ’14. Revisited this side street pub just off Tower Bridge, not so friendly on this occasion and very few customers to boot. They appear to be trying for a more up market feel than previous. We will still go back, but not with quite the same enthusiasm.
Rating 70 Feb ’12. Really friendly pub off the main area around Tower Bridge. The staff were really happy and welcoming. There is a small range of well kept beers to try. A really pleasant pub to visit.“

“Wetherspoon pub with a couple of front facing rooms connected by a skylight lit serving area to its rear. There’s no tables in the bar room which suggests it can get busy at periods but as this is pretty much tourist central given its located at the start of the southern approach to Tower Bridge. There’s not a huge amount of tables in here either so a place is not guaranteed here if you’re looking to sit down and eat. There are also warning signs screwed into the table to keep an eye on your bag. The decor is very traditional for the chain and in style with a warming carpet alongside wooden furniture and fittings and it appeals. There are two rows of real ale pumps at the bar.“

“Was pretty bored and walking over Tower Bridge so figured I would stop by here for a drink. Super close to Tower Bridge on the opposite side to the city. Very close to Draft House. Anyway the service was great, very efficient and chatty. Selection was quite good. A good and varied range of everything, mainly local. Quite expensive though. Almost 7 quid for a pint of Kernel. Besides that the place is good for a quick stop“

“We (me & Loz) visited here on Saturday 17th August, quite surprised that I have failed to visit here previously as it is certainly somewhere that can be taken in when visiting Kernel, Partizan and now Brew by Numbers on a Saturday, which incidentally we did today (visited all three) Back to the Dean Swift though. It is located on a side street in a mainly residential area a short walk from Tower Bridge. Inside the bar seating area is rectangular with the bar off to the left and rear as you enter. It is quite smart with a slightly classy feel about it. The lady who served was pleasant but I got the impression that I wasn’t going to get a great deal of friendly banter from her. One downside was the TV screnn with every customer coming in after us asking if it was going to show the Liverpool game, thankfully due to some BT subscription issue the games wasn’t going to be shown. I had a Signature Brew, Dry The River, Mammoth beer which was very nice, rather pleasing as it cost me £6 for the bottle, Loz had a Weird Beard 5 a Clock Shadow on tap. We just stayed for the one before heading off to the three Bermondsey breweries. I guess that I will likely return here again if in the area, the beer choice was pretty good, just wish it had a friendlier more accomodating feel about it, it just felt a little sterile.“

“Visited this pub several times. Nice cosy pub, placed a bit from the main street ( over Tower Bridge ), but still easy to reach, walking around city center of London. Friendly staff, beers in good condtion and with some variaty as well. They do food here as well, but I havent´n eaten here yet. Being in this end of London, this pub is for sure worth visiting.“

“Excellent place tucked away in the backstreets behind The Draft House - although the Dean Swift’s craft beer range is arguably superior to its more visible neighbour, making this an essential visit. A small-ish corner pub with an airy, traditional feel and football on the TV. Knowledgeable service directs you through the range of approx 10 taps and plenty of bottles, including Kernel. Went for food too - traditional fare and my beer battered haddock and doorwedge chips was huge and delicious. Overall it’s hard to fault it.“

“Stopped by for a few brews and some food. A nice smaller bar that got quite crowded as time went on. Bartender was friendly and knowledgeable. Enjoyed that they usually have a Kernel beer on tap as well as a number of casks and other taps. A nice number of Kernel bottles as well. Food was ok, but nothing special. Worth as top as it is right near Tower Bridge.“

“Great place! We were a large group and had hired the upstairs bar. Nice to be sheltered upstairs when the noise from the bar grew louder this friday evening. Tasty food and several interesting beers on tap such as Arbor Single Hop IPA Chinook, The Kernel IPA Citra Columbus, Magic Rock, Camden and more. But, why bother to brew the house beer in Belgium? Dean Swift Belgian Pilsner does not taste like a craft beer... (Visited November 16th 2012)“
