Thought this would be of interest to some on here. Beer Merchants are planning to open "London's best craft beer bar and bottleshop, as well also found the UK's first lambic-inspired blendery" in Hackney Wick.

They are crowdfunding for this venture as of 12 noon today and any 'donations' between £50 and £1000 will be rewarded with a gift card to the value of double that amount. I'm not normally keen on this sort of thing, but this seems like a pretty good deal.

Promising stuff - particularly the on site blending like Monks Cafe

Interesting twist on the usual crowdfunding aspect. I've pitched in small amounts for several breweries and bottleshops for equity in the past but getting double your moneys worth as a gift voucher seems like a no-brainer really. I mean I'm going to be spending that much money on beers regardless, so it's effectively free beer in cases like this. Granted I'll have to go to London but still... worth it.

Looks like a good deal. Either they're not anticipating that funders will make the most of their freebies, or they'll have pretty eye-watering mark-ups at the bar. Otherwise they could be out of pocket.

I'm guessing they figure they can offer this discount and still make a profit, just diminished for a period for certain drinkers. On-premise margins tend to be pretty high to start with.

Probably still cheaper and less risky than a loan from the bank.

Is the voucher in store only?
