although only 25, i have a good portfolio of beer under my wing, aged 10 I was allowed half pints of Guinness, at 14 I had y first ale, a half pint old speckled hen, then at 15 a full pint of Abbot ale, followed by a Guinness.
At 18, I quickly went from pints of Guinness (I stupidly downed them just to show up my dad struggling with his Lager), and started experimenting with a wide variety of alcohol, having shots of gin, scotch, cognac, vodka, absinthe, tequila, Rum, in a rather immature way.
But with my grandfather always being an old respectable drinker introduced me to the fine art of real Ale, of course I still loved my Guinness types but was very interested in all the different ales, first going for the characteristic whychwood brewary, before going on between 18-21 trying over 100 unique types, but never liking lager.
Favourites such as Hobgoblin, Abbot, Old speckled hen, and most of all IPA Old empire, which remains my favourite ale, but still loving my stouts such as Oyster, Mcewan’s champion, and arbour breakfast, eventually i stopped drinking as much and now seldom drink, but always am up for something i have never seen before, something peculiar and striking hehe.
modern day, drinking has become disrespected by young people like myself drinking a bottle of tequila everyday and then complaining when their livers fail, drinking to get drunk, ignoring all sense of taste, craft and class, but I hope at least I can teach what little I know to the new generation :)
