84 /100 LEVEL 1, 6 CHANGSHOU ROAD, KERRY CENTRAL, YAN’AN ROAD We visited in April 2018. Eric the head brewer is passionate about his work and maintains a spotless and well run brewery. Ask for a tour if you have time. The beer itself is presented in craft beer style rather than real ale, but is delicious nonetheless. Price is a reasonable 58 RMB, which reduces to 38 RMB during the daily happy hour. The range is good through 8 ales, with my favourite being a tasty wheat beer with added lychee. Highly recommended. |
76 /100 LEVEL 1, 6 CHANGSHOU ROAD, KERRY CENTRAL, YAN’AN ROAD Easily the best spot in Hangzhou for good beer. The brewery and bar is on the ground floor on the newly built Midtown Shangri-la Hotel. It’s a beautiful space with super comfortable leather lounges and bar stools. The brewhouse and equipment is partitioned by glass walls and nicely lighted up for show. Pretty classy really. At least six beers on offer at any one time with core and seasonal brews. Flights available. Solid beers that are well brewed and a total contrast from the other breweries in HZ. Food menu is extensive, the grilled meat is a great snack. |
66 /100 1/F, BUILDING 3, MATRIX, FENGTAN ROAD AND YUHANGTANG ROAD Southern inspired bbq joint north of the lake. There’s six house beers including pale ale, IPA and a passionfruit infused beer. We came by for dinner and the food was decent with an interesting twist on flavours. The beers can be ordered by flight which I found to be sufficient amount for sampling as the beers do need work. Service was totally fine. It’s worth having a look if wanting a switch from local cuisine to western familiar. |
58 /100 Cheerday (Bar) 3/F, IN77 HUBIN INTIME MALL, 257 YAN’AN ROAD Bar/restuarant situated upstairs in a shopping mall. Six taps mixed of light, dark and wheat beers. Wheat probably pick of the bunch but that’s not really saying much as the range is below average. Food is German sausage and meats. If nothing else, the beer is cheap here. |
52 /100 9A-9C, XIHU TIANDI, 147 NANSHAN RD This is a Czech themed brewpub by West Lake. Only tried the pilsner which was okay. ’Stout’ and ’Ale’ were the other two available. The venue is comfortable even feeling a little homely. Copper cladded brewhouse tucked into the corner entrance. Food is western fare. Live music in evenings. |
38 /100 ROOM 1-3, BUILDING 32, QINGCHUNFANG, QINGCHUN ROAD German themed brewpub with three house beers available - pils, weizen and schwarzbier. The beers were badly served - all turbid and green tasting. They had clearly been pulled early from conditioning and rushed onto tap. For something totally comical, the 2 metre long tasting paddle fits 24 glasses (8 tasters of each 3 beers) and it’s so ridiculously long and heavy to carry i just don’t get the point. Food is German sausage, chips etc. |
