Zur Andau (Bar)
GAUSTRASSE 77
“Street corner kneipe with a horseshoe bar in one corner, surrounded by high tables with lower tables to the side where a doorway leads to a covered seating area one way and more seating behind, there's a terrace out front. 80/90s music playing (on an early Friday evening), mixed clientale but mostly men of a certain age and very nice atmosphere - which does change when the footbal comes on the TV. Great to watch the bar skills pouring the Bit pils and washing glasses, decent place to while away an hour or so, beer choice is pretty mainstream however. Food offering is trad German 'pub grub' but looked hearty and well received“

Zenz Wirtshaus (Restaurant)
BAHNHOFPLATZ 4
“Modern German restaurant opposite the railway station with 5 beers on tap and about 8 different bottles - mostly German of course, with one Czech offering - it's undoubtedly a restaurant but they seem to take the beer seriously so worth a visit if you're looking for some hearty German food and fancy something other than a standard pils or hell to accompany it“

“Lively, small bar relatively close to the main railway station, offering just 1 beer on tap (Karlsberg Pils) but a small variety of bottled options. Loud on a Friday night, full of hip and trendy youngsters, but still a nice friendly atmosphere, plenty of Hollywood posters and photos up, music not too in your face, bar staff busy but pleasant“

“Out of town, eastwards along the river, in an old industrial building - very impressive looking from the outside, up a set of metal stairs (which would be scary coming back down after a skinful). Inside it's a relatively small bar area, with the brewery itself curtained off to the side. Small bar in one corner, kitchen area in another, tables spread around the remainder. 11 taps offering their own beers, flights of 4 x 100ml available, good variety of styles, and a (limited, but nice) food offering. Lively atmosphere (was quiz night), good service and a lovely little place to enjoy an evening - looks like a large outside area but my visit was a dark, October evening so couldn't grasp any opinion of that“

“Small, busy street corner pun on one of the main roads in the city centre, not too far from the cathedral. Plenty of beers on tap, although nothing too exotic for the seasoned traveller, similarly with their bottled options. Worth the visit for the atmosphere and the sixties music paraphanelia on the walls“

“Traditional German restaurant offering (whay appeared to be) hearty food and 3 taps of beer from Kulmbacher. Plenty of wood, various nick nacks hanging from the ceiling, mostly musical instruments. Relaxed atmosphere, pleasant staff who suffered my poor attempts at German! Pleasant place to pop in for a beer.“

“How I'd imagine a German Brauhaus should be, really impressive looking building set back and up from the street, multi-roomed on various levels. Lots of wood, plenty of table with seating outside also, large corner bar although service is at your table with good food and decent beers offered“

“Large beer hall with a bar at one end (but don't approach it, servers only) and lines of bench tables in front, some smaller and raised tables towards the edge and a large terrace out front. All of their standard beers (Pils, Helles, Marzen, Weizen, Pale Ale & Radler) offered 'vom fass' alongside some specials (Heller Bock, Kettle Sour, Hazy Little Owl, Strawberry Sour & Spring Wit on my vist). Service was a little slow despite it not being overly busy but inside there's plenty to keep you occupied with numerous architectural delights. Pizzas looked really good and the beer wasn't too bad.“

“Small 'keipe' with (authentic?) wooden beams, bar takes up a third of the space, has farmhouse-stye and raised tables, seating at the bar and a large outside seating area out-front. Five or six beers on tap but nothing to say what they are (except a poster for the 'special') - great service though, beer availability fully explained, Faust Pils & Crew Republic Local Hero were sampled, definitely worth a re-visit“

“A small walk outside downtown. Nice old location with a huge outdoor seating area. Too bad, that they just closed it and moved in side. Only 6 beers on tap (due to the change, I am told). Snack was good, staff smart and flights available. Will give them a second chance ;-)“

“Brewpub closed to downtown Mainz. First impression: tiny old school brewpub. Two large tables outside, small doors, lots of wood. Inside multiply floors with a beerhall in the basement. Wooden interieur, yepp old school but OldS cool. Smart Staff, rather quick. I like the Schwarzbier and the Dippers. Try the Handkäs mit Musik.“

“Ordered from these guys recently and the order arrived swiftly well packaged and with some stickers etc thrown in. The website is very logical, easy to navigate and the prices are fair. Beer choice is more skewed towards the current craft scene, so hazy IPAs, West Coast IPA's, Imperial Stouts (incl: BA versions), Fruited Sours, this sort of thing. All of the beers that I have had so far have been very decent. I think that if you subscribe to their newsletter (I forgot to do this) you will get 10% off of the first order, also spend over €60 and it is free shipping in Germany.“

“Nice tap room bit outside of downtown Mainz with a good and varying selection of their own and some guest brews. Bottles and sometimes growler fills to go are available as well. There's a small but good selection of snacks and some dishes so you wont leave hungry. Definitely worth a visit!“

“Located on the outskirts of the popular downtown area of Mainz, and is situated on the grounds of an industrial park that is about 80 years old. You don't find many modern craft breweries in this region, but Kuehn Kunz Rosen is making their mark! The brewery started in 2017 and has a diverse portfolio of recipes. The best part is that the beer is served in either traditional 0.3L pours or smaller 0.1L taster sizes. These are somewhat pricey for the volume you get, but it is a great option to be able to enjoy the variety of their beers. They also sell a 4-beer sampler flight which is a better value. When you first arrive, the stone and brick buildings look a little dilapidated, but that is part of their practical charm. In the center courtyard is a brick paver parking lot, and some patrons drive in to pick up bottles of beer. The brewpub is up the small hill on the right. Outside are several wood picnic tables and the middle part of the brick building has arched windows that allow you to see the stainless steel brewing vessels and fermenters inside. On the left is a 2-story square brick structure and you'll climb a flight of metal stairs to their entrance. Inside is their tasting room and small kitchen. The open kitchen is immediately on the left, staffed by a single cook. For food they offer soup, salads, and flammkuchen pizza. To the right is their 5-stool bar which is staffed by a single bartender. The staff is welcoming and cheerful, but perhaps a tad slow with the pours. On the right are several rustic wood dining tables, and up on a mezzanine level are a couple more tables and a couch. The floor is distinctive black and white tiles and the high white ceiling has metal conduit trays. Down a few stairs is the brewery floor. On the right are their large stainless steel brewery, and in the room further back you can see the farm of stainless steel fermenters. It is a decent sized operation. The tasting room has a casual, friendly atmosphere and classic pop background music is playing which is a nice touch. On one table are samples of grain and brewing ingredients for demonstration purposes, and they give occasional tours (look online). Paper menus and chalkboards behind the bar list their 8 house beers on tap. These span a range of styles, including the oft overlooked IPA. In addition to the house beers they also carry a few guest craft beers, a nice offering of unique ales. They also have most of their varieties in bottles for sale to go. If you're in Mainz, this brewpub is very much worthy of a visit.“

“After a couple of years brewing outside of town now with their own brewery in Mainz since laste year. Taproom attached open for half a year now. Located on the historic grounds of Kupferberg sparkling wine manufacturer and next to the former area of former brewery Mainzer Aktien Bierbrauerei. Big and open taproom, basically one big hall. Up to 12 taps possible including some tap only specials. Beergarden outside overlooking the city. Small kitchen menu with fine local dishes. You can have a look in the brewery when going to the toilets. Comign back from there have a look at the old door portal. Great place and I do hope that it will get popular very soon.“

It' not easy to find it if you dont know that it exists and where is it. Eulchen beers on tap and bottled. I liked them. Self service. Good prices. I didnt try the food. I would go again for sure.“

“I got lost in order to find this place.. but luckily I got lost in a nice park behind it :D There were tables with people outside the main building (visited summer of 2018) but I chose to sit at the bar inside. Small place inside but with very nice ambiance. You can see the brewing equipment. There are a few tables and a few stools at the bar. House beers and guest ones (mainly from German craft micros) on tap. Flights are available. I didnt try the food but it looked delicious (it was prepared in front of us and not in a kitchen). Very good service. I would visit it again for sure.“

“Brewery in the outskirts of Mainz. Best to get there by car or bike. Public transport takes about 30-45mins from the city center. Limited opening hours and you will only be able to buy their beers in 1000ml bottles, but thats worth it. Very good german beer styles.“

Easily reachable from the Autobahn, just opposite of the ZDF (second german tlevision). One Applewine, one Applesecco and two Ciders. Lots of different apple and other fruit related products aswell. All for a fair price. Support your locals!“

“Old traditional "Kneipe" in the heart of the old town. Renovated and reopened since 1st February 2018. From now a non-smoking place (thanks!). The place is now run by the crew of local Eulchen beer, but doesn´t want to be an official outlet, just a place for beer drinkers to come and enjoy different brews in a cozy atmosphere. 8 taps with rotating craft beers from everywhere. Needs some time to develop and attract new beer related customers to increase the offered beers. One Eulchen beer especially brewed for this place always on tap a smooth Pils called Klingelbeutel-Pils. Selfmade Flammkuchen for the hungry ones. Looking forward to see this place develop in a great spot for beer lovers!“

“Biergarten from the crew of Eulchen Bier, local beer from Mainz. Has been operating in summer 2016 and 2017 already. 2018 season will start late April/ beginning of May. In the backyard of the Kurfürstliches Schloss Mainz next to the river rhine. Great atmosphere, loads of tables, packed in the evnings with young crowds. Two shipping containers, one is the bar with all the Eulchen beers on tap, local wines. One with a small kitchen. Loads of events throughout the summer. Check it out, some great vibes here! Looking forward to next season.“

“Now the taproom is finally open! Located a little of the city center but still easy to get to. A 10min walk from the train station Mainz Römisches Theater or 15min from the core of the oldtown. Old industrial place with a charming atmosphere, the whole area is being developed. Next to the brewery are cultural places being created and a fan house for supporters of the local football club. The new taproom is very charming (awesome tiles), 11 taps (rotating with their own stuff and aswell beers from friends), some small food and a view down to the brewery. You can book tours and tastings and brewday visits aswell. Definitely worth to visit and I do hope this develops to a great spot for craft beer in Mainz next to more promising locations opening up currently.“

Weinhaus Schreiner (Restaurant)
RHEINSTRAßE 38
“Traditional Mainzer Weinhaus. So the focus is obviously on wines and not on beers. In my opinion there are much better local places in Mainz (Droschkenstube, Beichstuhl) but this place does serve some different beers than the others. They have the Bosch beers (Pils, Radler, Doppelbock), the Propeller beers (craft beer range of Bosch) and a Ratsherren Pils. Crowded by locals (50+) on the weekend, but I do love the atmosphere of those local traditoional places in Mainz. Service good. Menu looked fine but I had dinner already.“

“Unremarkable small place in the corner of a big street, entrance next to a parking garage underneath a building. Inside you are welcomed by wooden tables in a small room. Bar in the middle. They do serve Andechs on tap. The Spezial Hell and the Export Dunkel. Some Kölsch and Franziskaner Weißbier aswell. Great service. Only negative point: Smoking allowed. Stop here if you want a quick decent Andechs on tap.“

“If in Mainz and you wanna hit a bar/pub, the Sixties is where to go. Irish-style pub, wooden interieur, signs and poster on the walls. One room for smokers and one for non-smokers. Table soccer available. They show Bundesliga on the screens, at those times is very crowded. Generally it is better to make an reservation in the evenings. Beer assortment is big with more then 10 taps and way above 100 bottles. Craftbeers are also rotating.“

“Brewpub in the old town of Mainz. Cozy atmosphere in the basement with secluded sitting corners. A few long tables for sitting outside and a quite big cellar with a modern beerhall feeling, long tables aswell. Service is average, a bit slow sometimes. 2 beers on tap, very average beers, very smooth. You can order 3 and 5 liter towers of beer to enjoy with larger groups.“

“An Irish-style pub with lots of wood inside. The kind of place they often depict as a meeting place for various degenerates and lowlifes in movies. Lots of taps but there seems to be no rotation and the beers are mostly macroswill. The Murphys I ordered was oxidised, so don’t expect fresh stuff. They had a couple of really good German beers in the fridge but then that’s about it. Didn’t like it.“
