COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A multiple medal winner at the Great American Beer Festival, Coal Creek Porter has a solid and loyal following among Big Time’s customers. Impenetrably dark at first glance, Coal Creek shows rich red highlights when held to the light. Its blend of dark roasted malts combines with three other specialty malts and unmalted flaked barley to give Coal Creek a satisfying roasted flavor and smooth texture. It is heavily hopped in the finish with Yakima Centennial. Original gravity is approximately 15 degrees Plato (1.060 Specific Gravity), and alcohol content is 4.5% by weight.

UPDATED: APR 24, 2020 Keg at Big Time Brewery, Seattle, WA on 06/09/2008. A really nice Porter; full and roasty, with molasses and burnt sugar notes.

Draft - Only a hint of bitterness. More coffee and roasted flavors than sweet chocolate. Could be a little smoother for how it is on the palate.

Medium muddy brown. Lightly roasted, some cocoa notes, a decent bitter profile sort of overshadows the porter aspects. Decent brew.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a dark ruby brown with small beige head. The aroma is cocoa and cracker malt. Medium body, chocolate, licorice, light roast, decent.

Draft pour pint at stop #1 of my on foot Seattle tour. Research for an upcoming video documented experience. I am thankful for the wealth of beer places and breweries that are open at 11 on a Monday/Holiday. Listed at 5.4. Cola black pour with a cream foam head and lace. Sugar sweet, light roast aroma. Flavor is rich chocolate, soft roast, and a bit watery. Has a decent hop presence as well. If I didn’t know better I could mix this up with a CDA, but the styles seem to overlap in certain cases anyway. Overall a tasty beer, but a little watery and I’m missing the bold porter factor that I love. Still a good beer though.

Clear black color with red to the bottom, tan head. Sweet, some red apples scent. Sweet, light fruity taste. Medium low mouthfeel, medium low bitterness.

[3/2/15] Draught at Big Time Brewery in Seattle. Dark brown. Aroma of butter, caramel, some roastiness and a vegetal note. Sweetish flavor with butter, roast, caramel and a chocolate note. Medium-bodied.

luttonm (7592) - Seattle, Washington, USA - FEB 11, 2015
Draft at brewpub. Hazy cola brown, small foam. Soft chocolately roast malt. Nice creamy, tasty body. Lots of flavor all around, a little sweet in the finish. Not the most defined or sharpest beer around, but tasty porter.

mcberko (42095) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - FEB 7, 2015
On tap at Big Time, pours a dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma brings out notes of charcoal in typical coal porter fashion. Flavour is well-balanced, with dry cocoa powder and light roast. Decent porter, just nothing special.

3.5
Ferris (23108) - Burnaby, British Columbia, CANADA - FEB 6, 2015
Draft - Roast malts and butterscotch. Deep brown with a decent light brown head. Dark roast, toffee and a burnt bitter chocolate finish. Complex and pretty nice.
