Zlotta (8998) - Hagen, GERMANY - MAR 18, 2020UPDATED: MAR 18, 2020 0.75 l bottle from 'Etre Gourmet', 2015 vintage at 7.5% abv, cellared for about two years. Clear, golden amber with a thin, fluffy, quickly diminishing, white head. Sweetish, slightly sourish, gently fruity aroma of ripe apples, walnut, vanilla and some marzipan. Slightly sweet, a bit sour, quite dry, moderately fruity taste of ripe apples, dust, oak, some honey and a touch of vanilla, followed by a short, moderately tart, fairly woody-dry and a little alcoholic finish. Thin to medium body, a bit astringent and quite effervescent mouthfeel, lively carbonation. Nicely balanced and relatively rich cider, really pleasant and easy-going. Still, I expected a little more depth regarding its high rating, maybe aging for too long fades out the barrel too much?!
Grumbo (20241) - Ipswich, Suffolk, ENGLAND - DEC 31, 2019UPDATED: DEC 31, 2019 31/12/2019. Bottle sample courtesy of minutemat, cheers! Pours clear bright gold with a fizzed short lasting white head. Aroma of rich fermented apples, caramel, brown sugar, it's been nicely enhanced by its time in the calvados oak casks. Medium plus sweetness, slight tart edge. Medium body, syrupy texture, average to soft carbonation. Liked this, very drinkable.
Rubin77 (9122) - Bratislava, SLOVAKIA - NOV 24, 2019UPDATED: NOV 24, 2019 75cl bottle (7,5%) as vintage 2017 from the cidery (visited 9. 5. 2019), shared with my wife.
F: no real, some bubbles.
C: mellow gold, almost clear.
A: nice apples, woody, apples skin, bit calvados touch.
T: mellow apples fruity, bit calvados, woody, apples skin, vanilla touch, bit more like on the sweet side yet very nice, relatively easy drinkable, soft carbonation, rich fruity taste, very nice but still I expected a bit something more great, fully enjoyed.
sjogro (9245) - The Hague, NETHERLANDS - AUG 16, 2019UPDATED: AUG 16, 2019 Bottle shared on final holiday evening of our little tour-de-France through Mont-Médy (Ardennes), Piriac-sur-Mer (Bretagne) and Les Moutiers-en-Cinglais (Normandie). Bottle bought at the domaine, where I sampled it before. Pours clear golden with some rust in the color. Rich sweet apples, caramel, cinnamon, tangerine, a light tart edge leaning in against the sweetness, softening vanilla of the oak barrels, soft nutty tannins, and warming whisky-like fumes of the calvados come through. Sweet and moderate bitter, tart edges. Over medium body and fine carbonation. The cider has a somewhat fatter body than most, sticks to the glass like a good wine or olive oil and one can almost chew and crunch the
crystallised sugars in this light syrupy apple juice. Complex, delicate and delicious. A beautiful product for sure, but it won’t cure me of my weak spot for barnyard funky ciders.
