COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A still medium perry available in 500ml bottles and occasionally on draught.
NB: Gwatkin sometimes produces draught versions that differ significantly from the bottled. If you rate a draught version please specify that and include details of the ABV and designated sweetness level (if provided).

Traditional full bodied single varietal farmhouse Perry with a slightly cloudy appearance and a fragrant, floral, perhaps even perfumey aroma. Medium sweet, with fruity, perfumey flavors on palate and slight acids & tannins on finish.
The Blakeney Red pear takes its name from the parish of Blakeney on the outskirts of the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, where it still grows today. The trees grow tall, and fruit late in October, November. Despite being harvested by shaking the fruit to the ground with long poles, it keeps well, and can be stored until required. Years ago it was known for its quality as a desert pear. The juice can be used for blending, or as a single variety which produces a medium sweet, full bodied perry.

Sehr süßer Antrunk. Apfel, etwas Honig. Süß aber vergleichsweise süffig bleibend, rund, zum Ende trocken. Vollmdunig, gelungen. 8/10/10/10/7/10

Many thanks to Minutemat for this bottle. 7.0%. Fresh and astringent beginning. Not too sweetish, not too dry. Lots of tannins there, fruity with sweetish hints. Nice dry and astringent aftertaste, refreshing fruity with a nice dry perry aftertaste. Great and interesting with lots of depth.

Filled from a pin at Middle Farm, East Sussex (sorry, didn’t grab the ABV). Labeled as medium-sweet. Excellent perry that retains a good amount of pear flavor while also showing just a touch of tannins and earthiness. No sulfur flavor at all. Earthy, fruity, slightly sweet, and quite tasty.

Scopey (24187) - Oldmeldrum, SCOTLAND - MAR 4, 2016
Bottle from The Bristol Cider Shop. It pours clear rich gold with a tiny bubbly head. The nose is soft, sweet, fresh, ripe pear, marzipan, frangipane, custard and just a touch of earth. The taste is iniatially sweeter than expected... sweet ripe pear, fruit pie, earth, some tannins, light astringency, pear skin and frangipane with a pretty dry and tannic finish. Medium body and just a hint of carbonation. Hides the alcohol exceptionally well. The balance makes this work very well. A pretty solid Perry by all accords.

500ml bottle. Pours golden yellow, sparkling with a lusciously sweet perry / vanilla aroma. Given how badly I’ve rated all my previous encounters with Gwatkins this is surprisingly drinkable! Still rather sweet, with some pear drops and sugar, but there’s a lot of juiciness here and the fruity character of the pear really shines. A touch of dusty funk on the finish too.
