Greetings from DC. I’ll be in Kansas City and Lawrence June 30 - July 4. Haven’t planned any details of the trip yet, I’ll look through the RB places and figure that out this weekend.
Was just wondering if there are any pubs/breweries I shouldn’t miss that might not be so obvious in the Places section. And if some nights are better than others for Free State & 23rd Street, Gomer’s, Grinder’s, etc. I’ll try to do the Boulevard tour on Sat or Sun if there’s space.
And, of course, if anyone wants to meet for a beer (or two), message me and I’ll send you my mobile #.
Cheers,
Gene

Just saw this post - the KC Forum doesn’t get much traffic these days. There is a different local site you may want to post to, a lot of ratebeer folk at: http://www.craftbeerkc.com In terms of your question my opinon (grouped by area): Lawrence: - Free State (must) - 23rd St (if you are in Lawrence with time, worth a stop) - BarnYard (also in Lawrence, if you like weird little tiny brewers that are working the kinks out, fun enough stop) Downtown Kansas City: - Boulevard (must - likely sold out, but they may be able to fit in a small party) - Flying Saucer (good selection, some people enjoy the scene) Westport (~ 4 miles south of downtown) - MCoys (nearly must) - Foundry (attached / owned by McCoys - Beer Kitchen also across the street) Waldo (~ 3 mile south of Westport) - Waldo Pizza (a block from 75th Street Brewery - family pizza type place, but always great beers, even better prices, and do a samplers which is nice for an out of towner) - 75th Street (cool location with average food and pretty hit or miss service) Other: - AmeriSports (this is in the Ameristar casino NE of downtown - not a great place, but I love their Dunkel) - There are also Granite City and Gordon Biersch locations around town, if that is of interest Martin City Brewing Company is a great bar (not a brewery yet) but is quite a bit farther south than these spots. Wanted to give them a shout if you were going to be that far south. Lukas is right by them, if you are bottle shopping. Cheers, Tim

Thanks Tim, I just registered at craftbeerkc. I’ll try to roughly plan this whole thing out and then post there with details.
I’m thinking that with three good places in Lawrence, it’s worth spending a night there rather than driving back to KC. And I’m thinking that staying in Westport might be better than staying downtown. Logical?
Thanks!

Yeah, those lodging ideas seem logical.

Hey travir, unfortunately I will be out of town as of this Thursday otherwise I would have loved to meet up. I also want to add that if you will spend a night in Lawrence, might as well first drive out to Topeka and visit Blind Tiger then finish off in Lawrence.

Hey, thanks for the tip. Sorry I’ll miss you. I may be at Ft Riley for work later on this year, though. If so, I’ll shoot you a note.

OK, tentative itinerary: Arriving Saturday noon; I’ll try to squeeze into a Boulevard tour; then Flying Saucer. Then a brief stop at Martin City Brewing (closed Sunday) & maybe Lukas. Staying in Westport, so I’ll finish at McCoys, Foundry or Beer Kitchen Saturday night. Sunday - Waldo Pizza & 75th St, maybe Lukas, plus whatever’s left out of McCoys/Foundry/Beer Kitchen. Monday - detour to Fayetteville, AR (I’m trying to rate a place in every state this year!), with stops at Tanglewood Branch, Hog Haus, Brewskis. Tuesday - Lawrence, for 23rd St & Barnyard first, then finishing at Free State (I’m staying next door). Maybe Blind Tiger on the way to Lawrence. Ambitious. If any of these places is really good, I may sacrifice a few others, hoping that I’ll be back. So text me whenever you have time for a meet-up, and I’ll let you know where I’m at. Thanks for all the help!
