COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Is it beer, or is it wine? "Aged in French oak wine barrels for twelve months with distinct characteristics of fruit and subtle oak" sounds more like a description of wine than beer. But, of course, Temptation is indeed beer. Actually, Temptation is a Blonde Ale Fermented with a special strain of yeast, then aged in French oak chardonnay barrels. Flavors of wine and oak absorb into the brew throughout twelve months of aging. During this aging process, a secondary fermentation occurs using a yeast strain disliked by most brewers and winemakers called Brettanomyces. The "Bret" gives Temptation intriguing characteristics and a pleasant sourness. Temptation is re-fermented in the bottle to create its carbonation--a process commonly used to make fine champagne and sparkling wine. Spent yeast forms a thin layer of sediment to remain in the bottle.

nathanvc (5961) - Gent, BELGIUM - JAN 11, 2023
UPDATED: JAN 11, 2023 9 November 2022. Bottle from San Diego Wine Co. Bottled: 17/02/2022. Hazy golden, stable, foamy, white head. Aroma of unripe peach & plum, green apple, sour grape, white wine, horseblanket, grass, wet hay, cheese, vinegar. Taste has sour peach, mandarin & green apple over a sourdough-like malt base with funky & cheesy notes; softly bitter hay accent and acidic vinegar. Finishes with 'old' grassy hops, funky hay, acidic unripe fruit and tannic white wine-like alcohol. Full body, moussy texture, average carbonation. A very noble brew, definitely a treat.

UPDATED: NOV 25, 2022 It pours golden and brilliantly clear with a white head. Head retention is low. It has a strong wine character from the chardonnay with some earthly flavors. There are some grape notes with a hint of leather. It has wine flavors with grapes. There are very low leather and earthen elements. There are some wood elements. It has a medium body with moderately strong sourness. Overall, this beer is quite wine like but not to the point where it drinks like a wine.

BritAlesRule (219) - Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA - JUN 27, 2022
UPDATED: JUN 27, 2022 2 year, and 2 month old beer. My third or fourth Russian River beer. Gold or dark wet straw color. A very tame and likeable bretty nose, like wet pavement with a little ocean, sweetness and funk in the background. There's a clean and breezy quality. Initial taste doesn't seem to have a lot of depth. Medium spritzy sour mouthfeel. Been sitting here letting it warm a bit, don't understand the 4.11 rating. Just drank a Rodenbach Classic and it moved me. Just didn't get it.
