ANZUShophunter (3613) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - JUN 16, 2018
UPDATED: JUN 16, 2018 On tap at brewery. Pours near black with tan well sustained head, roast malt aroma. Creamy smooth, lives up to the name, nice choc malt body with enough bitterness to keep the finish dry.

(On tap) Nice looking beer - black with dense tan head. Good aroma - roasted malt, toasted nuts. Very smooth and creamy. Taste of dark roast malt, hints of burnt toast and coffee. Nice stout.

On tap at Wig & Pen, Canberra. Pours an ink black with a solid tan head. Aroma: Roasted malt, cocoa, cream, mild toffee notes. Taste: Roasted malt, mild caramel malt, cocoa, cream, oats. Medium to heavy bodied. Creamy texture. Mild carbonation. Quite delicious, probably the best beer from this brewery.

Sample @ Wig & Pen. Dark brown, almost black, lots of coffee and roasted malts. Creamy, with marked bitterness, bit of sourness from roasted malts.

On nitro tap at Wig & Pen, pours a reddish dark brown with a creamy tan head. Aroma brings out light cocoa and toasted malt. Flavour is smooth and creamy, with chocolate, oats and light toasted malt. Creamy mouthfeel, with a nice subtle sweetness. Very good.

Dark brown. Thick head. Soft, darker sugars and hits of dates/prune. Light roast. Good Irish-style example.

Nice dark pour with good foam. Light soy sauce, mild roast malt aroma. Taste is roasty sweetness - very nice for a straight up stout. Good stuff!

RafeAU (628) - Los Angeles, California, USA - AUG 7, 2014
I have had this many times and it is usually delicious - my 2nd favourite beer at the Wig and Pen. However last time I got it, 26 July 2014, I think it was a bad batch - lactic acid sourness, not very pleasant. I hope it’s back to normal next time and I can revise this rating because it’s usually an absolutely fantastic stout.

Tasted 5/3/2014. Draught at "Wig & Pen", Canberra. Poured an opaque black with a one-finger tan frothy head that retained well and provided filmy lace for the whole drink. Aroma of nice soft mild roasted malt with richness as well as a trace of coffee; roasted malt remained mild for the whole drink. Taste quite sweet caramel with a slightly bitter roasted grain. Medium body. Smooth, soft, creamy and slightly dry with a trace of roasted grain on the finish. Very good!
