COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Early April 2007, we were honoured by the invitation from Chris Lively to attend to the EBENEZER’S PUB 3rd ANNUAL BELGIAN BEER FESTIVAL. As a tribute to Chris, we decided to create a special brew for this event. Developing a new ale is always a challenge for every brewer, especially if one is talking about a new style, BELGIAN ROYAL STOUT. This beer comes with a bitterness of 100 IBU. 160 EBU for colour, a full bodied Belgian character, and the Struise signature. Although all these extreme values, still a powerful, elegant and well balanced ROYAL STOUT. Black Albert, referring to our smiling King Albert, is one of our biggest flagship beers at De Struise Brouwers. Is a Belgian Royal Stout with untold complex flavours. Saw the light of day for the first time in 2007 and has been in the Top 100 of the best beers in the world ever since. Initially brewed in homage to Christopher & Jennifer Lively’s best American bar “Ebenezer’s Pub“. (from https://struise.com/beer-item/black-albert) Black Albert was brewed and crafted with 100% Belgian ingredients. It’s blacker than black, with an inch of dark tan head that lingers as it cascades into itself. Nice aroma of bitter-sweet chocolate, fresh torrified coffee beans, barley, candy sugar, complex fruits, and floral hops. At the front, there is spiced baker’s chocolate, fresh mocha, caramel-like barley touches, and underlying hints of dried fruits which marries the back of your palate and features a Top, and well integrated but not overbearing hop flavour. The after-taste is well balanced and shows a panorama of extreme sensations like chocolate and coffee bitters, a plum cake richness that covers the palate, and a crisp impression of hop bitters that brings elegance and freshness into this massive brew.

Maris (3421) - Canberra, AUSTRALIA - APR 2, 2024
UPDATED: APR 2, 2024 From a 330ml bottle on 2/4/2024 (vintage 2020). Pours a deepest brown with virtually no head. Has a light chocolate nose with some hints of coffee. Tastes of bitter dark chocolate, caramel, licorice, dark/dry fruit and a good dash of soy. Finishes with a strong, lingering, boozy, slightly chemical tasting bitterness. The body is thinner than expected and the mouthfeel oily, with softish carbonation. With the huge rep, I was expecting something special but it's actually pretty underwhelming. Drinkable but wouldn't have again.

UPDATED: FEB 3, 2024 Ero mezzo addormentato a guardarmi un live dei Pink Floyd, quando ho detto mi bevo una birra. Penso di aver bevuto una delle cose più buone del pianeta, e semplicemente stratosferica.

UPDATED: JAN 18, 2024 Bottle, 0.33l. Black pour, no head. No lacing. Very nice on the nose, liquor, smoke, dried fruits, figs. Chocolate notes in the background. Full body, soft carbonation. Smooth mouthfeel and texture, oily, chewy, creamy. Very nice. Roasty bittersweet taste, nicely balanced, definitely more on the bitter side. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, toffee, brown sugar. Dried fruits, figs, licorice. Coffee and dark chocolate, light smoke notes in the background. Warming alcohol. Slightly sticky. Long lasting finish, liquory, sticky, dry, roasty and bitter. Fine brew. One to enjoy slowly.

ozzatoadisback (645) - ITALY - SEP 14, 2023
UPDATED: SEP 14, 2023 Pours pitch black. A few bubbles of dark yellow/brownish head disappear very quickly; ok for the abv. A well integrated and quite deep aroma, though not especially strong (was probably expecting something more vivid). A sugary (brown sugar) and caramel malty base with a touch of alcohol (kinda reminds of rum), quite some fruitiness (dried/dark fruits, fruit cake), licorice, only a hint of coffee on the back of things. Definitely smells like a bsda. Taste notes follow the aroma closely; good definition and very nice depth, good enough intensity (perhaps still not as intense as i'd expect a 13% beer to be). A sweet edge in the mouth with a dry enough, clean finish and a bit of sweet/fruity reminiscence in the aftertaste. Quite warming with well hidden alcohol. As mentioned, much more a classic belgian strong dark/quadrupel than an imperial stout, with pretty much no roasted character and only a hint of coffee. Dense bodied as obvious with pretty ligh carbonation; a semi-full, quite creamy mouthfeel. Very nice, but not that special to me.

AirForceHops (15054) - Epping, New Hampshire, USA - SEP 12, 2023
UPDATED: SEP 12, 2023 330 ml bottle. Bottled 22/03/2022. Wow, This used to be really exclusive beer! Pretty awesome it now offered to the common beer drinker. Aroma is coffee, dark chocolate, and some bitter roast. Hints of prunes, vanilla and caramel. Full thick body with some alcohol warmth after the sip. Very flavorful and well-rounded.

Yorona (102) - - AUG 4, 2023
UPDATED: AUG 4, 2023 This is impressive. Complex for a stout at 13%. Lovely marriage of chocolate, espresso, spice, cherries, with a hoppy brightness. One to sip and savour. Who needs adjuncts?
